2016 Game Awards Predictions & Opinions

  • Abzu (Giant Squid/505 Games)
  • Firewatch (Campo Santo)
  • Inside (Playdead)
  • Overwatch (Blizzard Entertainment)
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (Naughty Dog/Sony Interactive Entertainment)

Predicted Winner: Overwatch

Personal Pick: Overwatch

Ah, finally I give an award to Overwatch!

Yes, Overwatch absolutely deserves Best Art Direction. The amount of detail put into every level, character, and weapon is astounding. Add on the fact that all of these aspects have so much color and life, and it becomes easy to see why Overwatch has blown up within the video game community. After the last generation of every shooter being grey and muted, art direction-wise, Overwatch has given the shooter genre a much needed push in the right direction to get out of the bleak war-type of shooters we’ve been over-saturated with over the last couple of years.

  • Battlefield 1 (EA DICE/Electronic Arts)
  • Doom (id Software/Bethesda Softworks)
  • Inside (Playdead)
  • Rez: Infinite (Enhance Games)
  • Thumper (Drool)

Predicted Winner: Doom

Personal Pick: Doom

Come on. This isn’t even a contest. They’re having composer Mick Gordon perform at the show. No other game soundtrack has been discussed amongst the gaming community this year like Doom‘s has. It’s a face-melting fury of excellent metal that just enhances the demon-killing all throughout Doom. If you haven’t listened to it, go now and enjoy some serious head-banging.

  • Alex Hernandez as Lincoln Clay, Mafia 3
  • Cissy Jones as Delilah, Firewatch
  • Emily Rose as Elena, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  • Nolan North as Nathan Drake, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  • Rich Sommer as Henry, Firewatch
  • Troy Baker as Sam Drake, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Predicted Winner: Nolan North

Personal Pick: Nolan North

North has made the Uncharted series what it is based on his exceptional performance in every game as the charismatic treasure hunter, Nathan Drake. If Uncharted 4 really is the last time we’ll see this character for a long time, North deserves to go home with the trophy for his amazing effort not just in 4, but in the series as a whole. I don’t believe the voters will overlook that factor.
