Wii’s glowing blue for a World of Goo

Some of you may have gotten a new notice from Nintendo on your Wii Message Boards in the past few days. Others may have not. How do I know? Because everyone I’ve asked has a working Wi-Fi connection, their Nintendo Channel and WiiConnect24 settings turned on, and not one of us has received this notice that is *supposedly* going around!

Anywho, in case you haven’t picked up World of Goo yet on WiiWare, Nintendo is pouring their effort into promoting this game and making sure you download the game. It’s that good. If you haven’t already read the message and want to know what was said, a copy has been included after the break… but I’m pretty sure you all get the idea.

European WiiWare update for December 19th, 2008

Published by Rhody
Tags: Art Style, World of Goo

No Virtual Console games for Europe today, just a whole lot of WiiWare games, including the best WiiWare game ever. Let’s take a look at the list.

World of Goo (1500 Points): I’ve spent enough time gushing over this one. There’s a demo of the PC version available if you’re not sold on it yet.
Sudoku Challenge (500 Points): It is what it sounds like. Sudoku for your Wii. Next!
Niki - Rock ‘n’ Ball (500 Points): Tilt your Wii Remote to roll a ball at different speeds. Looks like a charming enough platformer. Probably worth the 500 points.
Art Style: Orbient (600 Points): Apparently “balls” is the officiall WiiWare theme this week and nobody told Sudoku challenge.

Europe will be happy this Friday when World of Goo hits WiiWare

The award-winning indie hit World of Goo is finally getting its PAL WiiWare release this coming Friday. It will hit the service in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand for 1500 Wii Points. Europeans should be happy, since there almost wasn’t a WiiWare release at all in Europe.

There’s not much more I can say about this game that I haven’t already said before. It’s amazing. Buy it.

World of Goo is deservingly successful

Published by Rhody

If you’ve been paying attention, you probably know by now that World of Goo is an indie game made by a two-man team called 2D Boy. The original concept is by Kyle Gabler, the ‘first’ half of 2D Boy, who quit his job at EA to create games his own way. After partnering up with Ron Carmel, they worked out of coffee shops, going forever deeper in debt, to eventually release World of Goo. The end result? Money. How much money? Well, they won’t say, but Gabler is dropping a hint.

When we started this indie thing it was a risk. We didn’t know if we’d make money. We were working off of savings and if everybody hated our game we would be crushed financially and emotionally. But we can finally say that, two years after leaving our jobs, we are better off financially and emotionally than we would have been had we stayed at the same company where we were working.

After playing World of Goo, I want these guys to become billionaires. They deserve it.

World of Goo will be released via WiiWare in Europe after all

Published by Rhody
Tags: 2D Boy, Europe, World of Goo

2D Boy announced today, via their official blog, that the planned retail Wii version of World of Goo will not be hitting European at all. Instead, they’ve submitted the WiiWare version to Nintendo for review, and are hoping for a release next month.

This will most likely help World of Goo become as successful as it deserves to be. Not a lot of people are willing to pay twice as much for a game when the only bonus is an extra chapter.

World of Goo will have the same content in Europe as it does in America, and will most likely cary the same price tag of 1500 Wii Points. Take it from me. This game is totally worth it.

Take a tour of World of Goo with this series of video walkthroughs

Video walkthroughs are a dime a dozen, but this one deserves special attention. One diligent World of Goo fan has spent the time and effort to create a nicely-organized Blogspot blog with videos covering every level of the game.

Of course, using a guide isn’t as satisfying as figuring it out for yourself, but honestly, using a guide was much more satisfying than having one unbeatable level nagging at me whenever I started up the game.

I’ve gone ahead and linked to the walkthrough for the first level, as opposed to the main page, just to avoid unwanted spoilers.

One more thought. Buy this game! Support indie developers on the Wii! It’s completely worth every single one of those 1500 Wii Points.

World of Goo demo seeps onto your PC

World of Goo is kind of pricey as far as WiiWare titles go (tied with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King at 500 points more than the next most expensive game), so many Wii owners have been understandably reluctant to plop down the points. Well, 2D Boy hopes to tip you over to his side of the fence, and has released a demo of the PC version.

The demo covers the entire first world of the game, which includes several levels. (I was on the fourth one when I ran off to write this article.) That’s quite a nice chunk of the game you get to whet your appetite with. I know it convinced me to see if I can ninja a Points Card for myself tomorrow.

World of Goo plops onto WiiWare

Looking to spend $15 on a game that exists only in download form? It might actually be worth it this week with World of Goo now available to North American Wii owners. It’s a physics-based construction game made by a whopping two guys. Two guys, and bucks a download. Talk about raking it in.

Also available on the service this week is the next entry into Nintendo’s Art Style series: CUBELLO. Remember the Metroid-themed “catch” mode in Tetris DS? It’s kinda like that, but in 3D. Hopefully, that makes it exciting for a change.

World of Goo plops on WiiWare October 13

As revealed on the second day of Nintendo’s fall media summit, World of Goo is officially coming on the 13thof this month. The game, created by 2D Boy, has gathered quite a following since with it’s freeform stick-and-stack gameplay.

Sure, the news may not be as epic as day one of the media summit, but if you have been waiting to get your goo on, it’s almost time.

WiiWare is soon to be in a World of Goo

Published by Pete

The much anticipated PC/WiiWare game has just gone gold for PC, which means the box should be hitting shelves near the beginning of November. Good news for Wii owners is that the game will be landing on Nintendo’s desk for approval soon, and should be available for download a few weeks before the PC release.
