This week’s new lineup of downloadable games from Nintendo may whet your appetite, especially if you’re salivating for some burger building fun. BurgerTime World Tour on WiiWare certainly earns a spot on my plate as the most eagerly anticipated title of the mere three releases. Also new this week is Maru’s Mission for the eShop, and 40-in-1 Explosive Megamix for eShop and DSiWare.

From House to hotrods, this week’s Nintendo downloads are sure to offer a high paced thrill! Gaijin Games really deserves a universal round of applause for developing the insanely addictive, yet unique Bit.Trip franchise. Sorry to get the first Nintendo Shop Update of 2011 to you so late! I actually just woke up from all the crazy New Year’s Eve festivities. If it wasn’t for chugging a few heart replenishing potions, I probably would have slept for another week.

Nintendo is right on schedule, delivering a stellar selection of downloadable gems for their DSiWare and WiiWare services to kick off the new year. Alas, no Virtual Console games included. Bleh. I wonder what will happen first, Duck Tales on the VC or the apocalypse of 2012. My money is on the Mayans.

This week for Nintendo’s WiiWare service, one new arrival is bound to start the week off with a splash. The Nintendo published title Fluidity has arrived, in both standard and free demo mode. Navigate a pool of water through an obstacle course set within the pages of the book called Aquaticus. Twist, turn and move the Wii Remote to control your water puddle, while also utilizing morphing power-ups that transform you into steam or ice.

A while back, Gaijin Games announced that there would be six titles in their popular downloadable Bit.Trip series, all featured on Nintendo’s WiiWare service. Since then, we’ve seen Beat, Core, Void, Runner, and Fate all come and go. Today, we’ve learned — thanks to the German software ratings board — that the sixth and final title in the series will be Bit.Trip Flux.

Alex Neuse, founder of Gaijin Games, revealed that the game will be Wii Zapper compatible, giving the impression that it will be a shooter similar to the previous Fate title. Hopefully we’ll get some screenshots sooner than later.

The highlight of this week’s downloadable offerings on Nintendo’s DSiWare service is the much anticipated portable release of Cave Story. The player wakes up to find he’s in a cave, unsure of who he is, or how he got there.  The game features adorable Mimiga rabbit folk, who must be saved from the hands of a mad doctor.  Your duty is to save the Mimiga.

Originally a PC title, the game’s visuals were updated when first released on the WiiWare platform earlier this year. Also releasing today is a WiiWare demo of Cave Story, offering players a chance to experience both the portable and console version of the game.

Nintendo’s been known to innovate both in hardware and software offerings. Their latest WiiWare creation is no different. Fluidity blends puzzle with platformer, where players will guide a liquid puddle through mazes and obstacles riddled within an illustrated encyclopedia called Aquaticus.

Navigating the pool of water depends on the movements of the Wii Remote. Tilt to move, shake to jump, or use your power-up abilities to transform water into vapor or ice.

Nintendo is giving us the gift of WiiWare game demos this week, as part of their weekly releases for their downloadable services. That’s awfully thoughtful, especially since the latter part of the week is going to be a little rocky, with our pants a little snugger, and our wallets a little lighter.

Today the Big N is bringing free demos, available for WiiWare titles And Yet It Moves, BIT.TRIP FATE, Jett Rocket and ThruSpace. All of these titles have received critical acclaim so if you’ve yet to purchase them out, take advantage of the fact that they are free to try!

New for WiiWare this week is peguin-filled adventure title Snowpack Park. For DSiWare this week releases include Tetris Party Live, and online enabled Tetris game, as well as Supermarket Mania and Music on: Electric Guitar. For the Virtual Console comes Spin Master.
