WiiSpeak Channel is launching in Europe on December 5th, which just so happens to be the release date of Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City. The WiiSpeak Channel will allow users to make use of the WiiSpeak microphone for online voice chat (among other things) with up to four people simultaneously. Think free, four-way phone calls with Miis. And picture transfers. And text messages, for some reason.

With the launch of Animal Crossing: City Folk later this year, Nintendo will be stepping out of their comfort zone, and into the world of voice chat. WiiSpeak, a device that is designed to sit on top of your sensor bar, will allow an entire room of players to communicate via one microphone.

This strays from the traditional headset mentality, but will work wonders in games like Mario Kart or Animal Crossing where there is often a room of players commenting on the action. Some may prefer the traditional style of a personal mic, but I applaud Nintendo for trying something different that fits the style of their system. Additional picture after the break.
