WiiMotion Plus may not have been out of the blue after all

Ever since the revealing of Nintendo’s full motion add-on at E3, developers have not been shy about speaking their minds about being left in the dark. Lucas Arts, in particular, with the release of The Force Unleashed could have made amazing use of the peripheral. Now, however, that seems it may not have been the case with all companies. Ubisoft seems to have known, as they mentioned in an interview with GameDaily.

[In regards to WiiMotion Plus] Nintendo has been working on that for a long time, trying to see how they could improve the precision. We knew for a long time they were working on that, so it’s not a big surprise for us. We’ll start seeing something in September/October. We already have games that can take advantage of it.

Good news for gamers, worse news for Lucas Arts. Before I thought the complaining was a little over the top, now I just feel bad for them. Full interview after the break.

WiiMotion Plus should be very affordable

While talking with the Wall Street Journal about peripherals, the topic of keeping the newest accessory in the Nintendo line-up, that little attachment that could, available for everyone. Satoru Iwata replied:

There will be games that will be enhanced by the Wii MotionPlus as well as games that can only be played with it. Users will need four if they have four controllers, but we’re going to try to offer it for as little as possible… We haven’t announced the price yet, but the cost of making the Wii Motion Plus is not that much, so I think we can make it very affordable

This is good news for all Wii owners, now it’s up to the developers to utilize the power or WiiMotion Plus. Interesting that Iwata mentions some games being enhanced by the device, while others requiring it. If only backwards compatibility was possible with the original Wii Sports.

LiveMove 2 reveals the potential of WiiMotion Plus

I’m sure the prospect of 1:1 motion may seem like something that may never happen, but this video may change your mind. I’ll admit it, I was a bit skeptical when WiiMotion Plus was revealed, but the above tech demo (straight from a co-developer of the technology) has me pretty excited. Spring ‘09 has never seemed so far away.

Red Steel 2 swings with WiiMotion Plus

Although Red Steel 2 may not have show its face yet, Executive Director Alain Corre spilled the beans on the fact that the upcoming title will support Nintendo’s newest add-on. Hopefully this will breathe some fresh air into a franchise with so much potential that wasn’t met by the first game.

Corre also points out that they didn’t know about the device until E3, but wasted no time adopting the technology. I don’t want to get excited, but I just can’t help it! Make me proud, Ubisoft! *screenshot not taken from actual game
