Recent Wii firmware update kills homebrew
The Wii firmware update that was released yesterday prevents new installations of homebrew applications. That means if you already have the Wii Homebrew Channel installed, you can continue to use it. Otherwise, you’re out of luck. (At least until those tricky hackers find a way around it.) The update is required to use the Wii Shop Channel or purchase DLC.
This also means you can no longer install pirated WiiWare and Virtual Console games, which is probably the biggest reason Nintendo has for preventing you from hacking your Wii. It’s just a shame that those other neat homebrew applications get caught up in all this. Feel free to check out WiiBrew for more technical information that goes right over my head.
