Fanboys rejoice! According to Merriam-Webster, you are real!
When ever I think about adding a word/phrase to the dictionary, I always think of the “Pulling a Homer” episode from The Simpsons. It seems that some current gaming lingo is finally starting to crack this book of words with it’s latest entry: Fanboy.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines fanboy as a boy who is an enthusiastic devotee, such as of comics or movies.
One problem, it doesn’t have video games in the actual definition. Another strange tidbit of information is that it seems that the word fanboy isn’t as new as we think. It’s origins date back to 1919, but I’m curious to how it was used back in the days. I guess you could be a Cincinnati Reds fanboy, or Woodrow Wilson fanboy.
