Nintendo has released a new update for the Nintendo Channel. What does it do? Well, Nintendo says that it “provides a behind-the-scenes enhancement to the Nintendo Channel.” Whatever that means.

I’d love to be able to test it out and let you faithful readers know if there are any obvious changes, but I’m having some trouble connecting to the Wii Shop to download it for myself. This may have something to do with a large number of people trying to download the update. It might be a good idea to just wait a little while before attempting to update your own Nintendo Channels.

Nintendo Everything

For the first time since the release of the full version, the Internet Channel is getting an update. The update will include spiffy new buttons, compatibility with the Wii Speak microphone, access to Wii Mail while browsing, and and tabbed browsing with up to six tabs.

One feature that’s missing from the list is an updated version of Flash. The current version used with the Internet Channel is severely outdated, so let’s cross our fingers.

The upgrade will be free for current Internet Channel owners, or 500 points for non-owners, which is exactly how much the current Internet Channel costs, so that basically means… it’s getting upgraded. Redundancy for the win.
