As previously reported, a special disc with the first two Borderlands expansions, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot and The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned, is on it’s way from 2K Games. Not previously reported was the just-announced release date of April 6. Also of note is 2K’s decision to exclude the PS3 from this release, making the $20 disc only available for XBOX 360 and PC. No specific reason was mentioned for the exclusion, but given the content’s availability on PSN, I’m sure you PS3 players aren’t losing any sleep over it!

Well, what a pleasant little surprise. I personally haven’t bought any Borderlands DLC yet (yet!) but if the price is nice, I could go for the disc. Due out next month in Europe, the Borderlands DLC disc will include two of the three chapters released thus far: The Zombie Island of Doctor and Ned and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot. Sadly, there are no plans to include the newest DLC chapter, The Secret Armory Of General Knoxx, which you’ll still have to purchase through LIVE.

There is no word on price and so far only PC and XBOX 360 availability been mentioned. The initial report also lacks a US release date, but with how lucrative the Borderlands DLC has been for 2K Games thus far, I’m sure we’ll be hearing something about Stateside release soon.

My fellow PC users, rejoice! The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned, the Borderlands bonus content that was released at the end of November for XBOX 360 and PS3 players, is finally available for us nerdy computer using types.

Borderlands had slipped down a few notches on my Christmas list due to the PC delay of the DLC. Now I can comfortably move it back up to my top five. Whew. Now where to put Left 4 Dead 2? Sigh.

“Fastest selling new IP of 2009″ Borderlands has a new expansion, available now! Entitled The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, the chapter is available for download via Microsoft’s XBOX Live and Sony’s PSN.

The storyline features Dr. Ned, a scientist given the task of keeping Jakob Cove’s workers alive. When his experiments go awry, leaving the Cove filled with vicious zombies, its the player’s task to work alongside him until they find a cure. The expansion will include new quests, new enemies, and new rare loot. Says president of 2K, Christoph Hartman:

“We are very excited to present fans of the highly acclaimed Borderlands with the first expansion. The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned presents a bold new storyline that entertains and excites, and simultaneously ensures that fans still receive the same great gameplay experience that made the original game a success.”

Now is it just me, or does the timing of this DLC have “originally unfinished content” written all over it? I could be wrong. DLC is getting so popular these days that its entirely possible that they created this alongside the game for a staggered release only one month after the game’s debut. But, as my programmer friend put it, “knowing developers, probably not”.

Ah well, I shouldn’t complain. There are worse things in this world than another chapter in one of the best games of the year. Now if they could just get a PC release date, I’d be all set! Be sure to check out our gallery of  The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned screens.
