I always think Nintendo does a great job with their advertising, and this commercial is no exception. To show off the 93% larger screens of the DSi XL, Nintendo brought in Link and his adventure The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Phantom Hourglass to  promote the handheld. The ad has been around for a few weeks, but it’s still pretty clever.

Thanks to one of our readers, I realize the ad does not feature Link’s most recent title, Spirit Tracks. Pretty odd decision, but I guess any Zelda game is good enough for me.

Mario isn’t the only Nintendo mascot to have an adventure this holiday season. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is still set for a December 7th release. The DS adventure is a sequel to Phantom Hourglass, taking place 100 years later. If you’re on the fence, some new screenshots may be the perfect thing to get you on board.

As promised by Nintendo’s Denise Kaigler during a recent interview, the Club Nintendo service has finally added a new exclusive reward. The Legend of Zelda 3-Poster Series is available for 350 coins.  The poster pack includes one poster that shows a history of the progression of Link from Zelda titles featured throughout the games over 20 year history. The second is from the popular DS title Phantom Hourglass, and the third from Wii’s Twilight Princess.

As seen by the absence of the Game & Watch Collection item on Club Nintendo, these rewards do sell out quickly.  Something tell me you may want to hurry on this exclusive item. Check out the other two posters after the break.

It may not be the revolutionary Wii Zelda title we’re all waiting for (and will inevitably receive), but The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks will be our next adventure with Link after a notable franchise hiatus.

Delving further into the steam age, Link seems to have left his paddle steamer in the water in favor of his new locomotive train. Like Phantom Hourglass, you’ll use the touch screen to draw out your train track path on the map and fire your cannon. We’ve got the GDC trailer above for you to enjoy until we get more information on the game, scheduled to be in your DSi by the end of 2009!

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will be giving the keynote address at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference in March. The last time he keynoted the conference in 2005, he revealed the first juicy bits of information about the Wii. The following year, the GDC was used as a platform to announce The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. The subject of the speech will be “Discovering New Development Opportunities,” so take that how you will. The Great Jubbah knows that’s something Iwata should be an expert in by now.

The Game Developer’s conference takes place between March 23rd and 27th. Expect lots of coverage from us here at The Tanooki when it happens.
