Best Buy has risen as a dominate force in the video game market over the past few years. With initiatives like offering game trade-ins at select stores, and competitive pricing, many gamers are choosing the blue and yellow chain over its competitors. Best Buy is continuing to please this weekend, with a couple of exclusive gaming deals.

Members of the company’s unique Reward Zone Gamer’s Club can pick up a copy of Tekken 6 for Xbox 360 for just $9.99. That’s 30 bucks off the original price. For sports fans, 2010 FIFA World Cup: South Africa will sell for $39.99, saving you $20. For the music fan, The Beatles: Rock Band for all consoles will be available for just $17.99 this weekend, saving you $12. Lastly, Wii owners can pick up bundles of Bass Pro Shops The Hunt or The Strike for $34.99, saving you $15 off.

Make sure you jump on these deals, as they’re going away on August 22nd.

Harmonix dispells Rock Band 3 rumors

OK, so anyone remember about a month ago when Dhani Harrison, son of Beatle George Harrison who assisted on The Beatles: Rock Band, told the Chicago Tribune:

“I’m working on Rock Band 3 and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game. Give me a couple years, it’s going to happen.”

Well, Harmonix would like to put a stop to that right now. IGN reports that at a talk held yesterday in San Francisco on the future of gaming, Harmonix’ John Drake said that Dhani Harrison was “speculating wildly” and that while he’d been an integral part of The Beatles: Rock Band, that Harrison is not involved with Rock Band 3.

Whether this is deflection or the absolute truth I have no idea but I think a game that teaches the user to play instruments is a smart idea, whether or not Harmonix or Rock Band is behind it. Hopefully something will still come of the young Harrison’s aspirations.

Beatles: Rock Band gets the act you’ve known for all these years

In case you’ve already milked Abbey Road, you’ll be glad to hear that Harmonix and MTV Games have announced the next album to be released as DLC for The Beatles: Rock Band.

Coming November 17th, the rest of the tracks from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band will be available to download for 1080 Microsoft Points ($13.50) as a complete Track Pack, 160 Microsoft Points each as individual songs, or 200 Wii Points as individual songs. On November 19th, PSN users can enjoy the show for $13.49 for the full album, or $1.99 per song. Those individual songs coming with the album are as follows:

Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!
Within You Without You
When I’m Sixty-Four

For those who weren’t able to catch last night’s episode of The Tonight Show, Dhani Harrison came on for a quick bit to talk about how The Beatles: Rock Band came about. Of course, nothing here is really news to us, but seeing as Conan himself isn’t new to being immersed in video game worlds, it’s worth checking out his new band rocking out to “Birthday” …right after he tries to snag himself a free Beatles box set.

Australia’s hiding The Beatles: Rock Band away

Despite a worldwide release, Australians may have a long and winding road until they get their hands on The Beatles: Rock Band. The game is in short supply Down Under, with most retailers getting few to none of the instant blockbuster game. EB Games, for example, reportedly has no copies of the game for those who didn’t pre-order.

Is this just EA snubbing the fourth region? The Rock Band series hasn’t seen a lot of competence from its distributors in Australia up to this point. Rest assured, though, retailers with copies to spare are singing, “If you want it, here it is, come and get it. But you better hurry cause they’re going fast!”

E3 2009: “All You Need Is Love” DLC not exclusive to 360; will come to Wii and PS3

It was suggested during Microsoft’s media briefing that one downloadable song for The Beatles: Rock Band, the legendary “All You Need Is Love,” would be exclusive to the Xbox 360 platform. Essentially, owners of the Wii and PS3 versions of the game would be deprived of a staple in the Beatles library.

As it turns out, it’s merely a timed exclusive, and only for a very short time at that. “All You Need Is Love” will initially be a 360-exclusive, but will make its way to the Wii and PlayStation 3. Perhaps we’ll get our own timed exclusive as well?

Here’s the intro video that you’ll all see when you start up The Beatles: Rock Band. It’s also the same video, directed by Pete Candeland, they used to introduce the game at E3 this week… and for good reason. I’ve been a Beatles fan since before it was cool for people my age to like their “parents’ music,” so hopefully you can imagine what it’s like for a Beatles fan to finally see a modern cartoon that manages to catch the spirit of the Fab Four.

E3 2009: The Beatles: Rock Band DLC incompatible with other Rock Band titles

Bad news for Rock Band owners hoping to download the Beatles’ Abbey Road album later this year, it turns out that a copy of The Beatles: Rock Band will be required. Harmonix Creative Director Josh Randall confirmed that tracks for The Beatles: Rock Band have a separate license than other games in the Rock Band franchise. As a result, any Beatles music available for download can only be played using The Beatles: Rock Band. The game is set to release on September 9th this year.

Not content with offering 45 remixed recordings of the Beatles library, Harmonix and MTV Games have arranged to provide downloadable content for the upcoming The Beatles: Rock Band. Makes sense, right? We would have all hoped this was the case.

BUT to make things even sweeter, it’s been confirmed that DLC will be offered in the form of downloadable albums. That’s right, entire Beatles albums, starting with the legendary Abbey Road. Take that, iTunes.

E3 2009: The Beatles: Rock Band to support three vocalists at once

I saw this during Microsoft’s conference and it struck me as something odd – kind of reminded me of last year’s Wii Music bit where FIVE people, including Shigeru Miyamoto and Denise Kaigler, were on stage rocking out to a jam session. I was told later at Nintendo’s show floor booth that five simultaneous players wasn’t possible for the game.

NOT TRUE with The Beatles: Rock Band. The gameplay video I’m uploading at the moment clearly shows that it supports at least three vocalists at once. Think it can do four?

Excited to see just how well The Beatles: Rock Band captures the spirit of Beatlemania? The official gameplay trailer from MTV Games has been uploaded for you all to check out. EVERYTHING makes references to specific times and moments in the history of the Beatles, and I’m starting to think that $250 worth of my graduation money will be set aside in just a few seconds for the limited edition version of this game.

Dhani Harrison says The Beatles: Rock Band will “blow your mind”

For those of you that don’t realize, The Beatles: Rock Band is a huge deal. Never mind the fact that it’s a Rock Band game starring the most influential pop group in the history of music – the creators of this game have had to overcome hurdles, hurdles that have prevented the Fab Four’s music from being used in other media and even being sold on iTunes, to get this game out to you. Along the way, Harmonix and publisher MTV Games have picked up Giles Martin and Dhani Harrison to help ensure that this once in a lifetime video game arrives with the polish, perfection, and utmost respect for what the Beatles accomplished to do.

In a recent podcast, Dhani Harrison, son of the “silent Beatle,” George Harrison, commented that, ”The Beatles: Rock Band is going to blow people’s minds. It’s going to set a new standard for video games. I absolutely love it and can’t wait for music fans and gamers to get their hands on it… I became friends with the guys at Harmonix, especially [Harmonix CEO] Alex Rigopulos. When the idea [for the game] came up between us just in jest, we didn’t think it would happen. But it was such a good idea.”

Two extra The Beatles: Rock Band guitars announced

Harmonix has revealed two new Rock Band guitars to release along with The Beatles: Rock Band. The Rickenbacker 325 and Gretsch Duo Jet will be compatible with all pre-existing Rock Band games, and The Beatles: Rock Band itself will be compatible with all pre-existing Rock Band instruments. That’s probably good news, considering each of these guitars will set you back $100. Only the most hardcore of hardcore Beatles fans will be willing to spend $250 on the premium bundle (which includes a Höfner bass, a set of Ludwig drums, a microphone, and a microphone stand) and an extra $200 on these two guitars.

In other The Beatles: Rock Band news, a pre-order site has opened allowing pre-orderers access to exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, art, and news. If you already pre-ordered and didn’t receive your 9-digit pre-order code, don’t worry. You should be able to claim it at your local game store starting tomorrow.

The Beatles: Rock Band named, dated, priced

Remember when the Beatles game wasn’t going to be a Rock Band game? Remember when there wasn’t even going to be a new Rock Band this year? All lies. MTV Games has released some details regarding The Beatles: Rock Band. Predictably, spiffy new instrument controllers will be released along with the game, modeled after the instruments used by the Beatles themselves. The game will come bundled with these instruments, but of course, it will also be available on its own. It has been confirmed to be compatible with all currently existing Rock Band and Guitar Hero instruments. As for pricing, the game alone will be $60, the new guitar controller will be $100, and the “Limited Edition Premium Bundle” (assumed to be the game will a complete set of instruments) will go for $250.

The Beatles: Rock Band is set for release on September 9th.
