Kick ass in style with new Street Fighter IV threads

Since its spring release, Super Street Fighter IV has packed quite a punch in the content department, with a healthy amount of characters and stages included over the previous non-Super version. Capcom’s also been aggressive in offering fantastic costume options for all fighters. That trend continues, as the company has announced a new batch of costumes to arrive this October.

They’re featured below as the first five images in our extensive SSFIV gallery. Definitely loving Cammy’s Catwoman-esque outfit, amiright? Perfect for Halloween, as the new digs will be available October 26th on PSN and Xbox Live.

Lady Gaga trades flamboyance for fighting skills

If the above artwork is any indication, the queen chameleon of costumes is switching from musical performance art toward kicking some ass.

As seen on Kotaku, this artwork brings Lady Gaga into the world of Super Street Fighter IV, where she actually looks like a legitimate competitor. Let’s face it, Ibuki doesn’t stand a chance.

In fact, this actually opens the mind to a world of celebrity fighter possibilities. Take notice, Capcom.

Super Street Fighter IV getting the 3D treatment on 3DS

As one of Nintendo’s many teased titles set to arrive on the 3DS when the handheld launches before March 2011, many wondered just how much a 3D version of Super Street Fighter IV would look like its HD console counterparts. The answer? A lot.

Capcom has just released the first screenshots from Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, and it’s pretty exciting to see so much of the game’s style intact. You can already tell what elements will stand out and benefit from the 3D technology, including the characters themselves. You’ll also note some generic tables and chairs that will add to the immersion. Hopefully more substantial background images like animal or a cyclist will also pop out during your battle matches.

Super Challengers 2 costumes available for Super Street Fighter IV

Available today for Xbox 360 owners comes the new Super Challengers 2 costume pack for Super Street Fighter IV. The pack includes new outfits for Cody, Ibuki, Juri, Adon and T. Hawk.

The Adon and T. Hawk outfits are pretty cool, but poor Cody just can’t catch a break with his handcuffs. I wonder how he changes outfits with them on?

The costume pack will also be available for PSN shortly, but that’s okay because you couldn’t download them yet anyway. All 5 outfits will be available for $3.99 on PSN and are now available for 320 Microsoft Points. Take a look at all 5 new costumes in our gallery below.

Super Street Fighter IV to get improved balance, Tournament mode next month

Capcom is planning to roll out two new improvements next month for Super Street Fighter IV. First, the company is releasing a patch said to improve the balancing issues noticed with some characters, including the inability to block Ultra combos, as well as character specific improvements.

Secondly, and much more importantly, Capcom will be releasing their anticipated Tournament Mode, set to offer the most highly customizable and competitive online experience for Street Fighter players. Both additions are set for release on June 15th.

Fei Long’s infinite combo loop against Juri will be removed.

Unblockable Ultras will be fixed. This is where you throw a fireball and the Ultra flash made it so your opponent could not block.

Guy will no longer be able to be thrown while he’s crouching and in hit stun animation. A bug made it possible to combo throw moves while he was in this state.

Ibuki’s invincibility window on wake up — under certain circumstances — was too long, this will be fixed.

The 2nd hit of Ibuki’s Spinning Kicks missing Chun-Li will be fixed.

Counter hit damage on M. Bison’s (Dictator) Ultra 2 was too low.

Sagat’s Angry Charge was not working properly in some instances (EX-Tiger Uppercut doesn’t get damage upgrade in some cases).

Capcom profits “sluggish” for last fiscal year

In a recent press release, Capcom reluctantly informed readers that net sales for the company had decreased 27.3% from the previous year, as well as an operating income decrease of 62&. Net income however, was down a whopping 73.1% from the previous year.

Capcom blamed the sluggish sales on the delay of their 2010′s lineup of titles, Super Street Fighter IV, Monster Hunter Tri and Lost Planet 2, pushed into the next fiscal year which started April 1, 2010. Capcom also blamed arcade game development as an “extraordinary” factor for financial loss. No wonder it was so hard to get Super Street Fighter IV a Japanese arcade release.

Luckily Capcom is off to a good start with the new fiscal year bringing three great titles to the masses. With the extremely anticipated Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds possibly releasing prior to March 31, 2011, things are sure looking up for the company.

First DLC costumes for Super Street Fighter IV dated

Although the game just came out this week, some fans just can’t wait to get their hands on the first round of downloadable costume packs for Super Street Fighter IV. So what are they, and when will they drop? We’ve got the schedule right here.

Available now: Super Challengers Pack 1 (Hakan, Makoto, Guy, Dudley, Dee Jay)
May 11: Super Shoryuken Pack (Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Gouken, Dan)
May 25: Super Beauty Pack (Chun-Li, C. Viper, Sakura, Rose, Cammy)
June 8: Super Challengers Pack 2 (Juri, Ibuki, Cody, Adon, T. Hawk)
June 15: Super Brawlers Pack (Zangief, E. Honda, Rufus, Abel, El Fuerte)
June 22: Super Shadaloo Pack (Vega, Sagat, Balrog, M. Bison, Seth)

Super Street Fighter IV launches, crowd goes wild

Capcom’s updated fighting title Super Street Fighter IV has finally released today in North America. The game uses Street Fighter IV as its backbone, adding tons of new features. Super boasts an impressive roster, adding 10 new characters, including fan favorites T. Hawk and Dee-Jay, as well as new additions like Final Fight characters Guy and Cody.

With new stages, new modes and the return of bonus stages (car destroying and barrel bashing), Super Street Fighter IV makes its predecessor look like a baby wearing a sun dress.

The game releases for just $39.99 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

What would happen if the cast of Super Street Fighter IV were all enrolled at the same high school? A group of filmmakers/ Street Fighter enthusiasts wondered the same thing, and created it for our enjoyment.

Featured on Break.com, this parody is actually pretty funny. It’s 10 minutes long, so you’ll have to commit some of your precious time for it, but I highly recommend it. You’ll even find Blanka playing guitar!

Capcom’s Street Fighter LA “Fight Club” event

Friday evening, Capcom and Sony hosted a Super Street Fighter IV “Fight Club” event here in Los Angeles, open to the public. The event allowed fans to come try out the new title, while taking in all the food, music and art one could handle. Capcom even hosted an epic battle between U.S. Street Fighter champion Justin Wong, against Japanese champion Daigo Umehara.

I decided to attend to event, in an attempt to bring all this greatness to you Tanooki Street Fighter fans. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to enter the party, held inside a giant warehouse. Capcom selected a location that had a 600 person limit, according to the fire marshals on hand. Doors were scheduled to open at 8pm, but didn’t open until about fifteen minutes past. Finally, folks were guided behind the giant black curtain at the front entrance, and the crowd went wild. You could hear and feel the excitement as the giant line of well over 1,000 people motioned towards the door. Suddenly, with about half the crowd inside, the line stopped. And unfortunately for me, I had about 100 people in front of me.

Several event employees circulated the winding lines of impatient fans, only to inform us that unfortunately, they reached capacity and would not be allowing anyone else into the building. The look of devastation in the eyes of the fans, including myself, was nearly too much to bare. The earliest event-goers got there nearly 10 to 12 hours before the doors opened. Luckily, those fans were all granted access to the indoor festivities. Still, some of us that got there around 5pm were among the masses shunned from the fun.

Not only were fans saddened by the neglect, but you could hear the anger and disappoint in their voices. At one point, the outdoor crowd broke into a chant, yelling “let us in, let us in!”

I wish I had more fun first-hand details to share about the great launch party Capcom held. What I can tell you is that Street Fighter fans are truly some of the greatest and most devoted fans of any title. You could feel a strong bond prevalent through all of those that attended. With several cosplayers in attendance, from Cammy to Balrog, fans delightfully cheered as they approached. Even the appearance of Capcom’s Community Manager Seth Killian brought on screams and applause.

At the very least, it was good to see that the community of Street Fighter fans is still as strong as ever. A franchise that’s been around for decades has created a culture, making events like this one possible. Not many other titles could launch with the amount of fanfare and devotion, like this LA Fight Club event. I just hope next time, Capcom plans accordingly.

Super Street Fighter IV launch trailer artfully shows new crew

With Capcom’s latest Street Fighter title releasing next week, the excitement is brewing for the arrival of the character additions, new modes and new stages. The latest launch trailer above shows off these new characters, in a very artistic commercial. You’ll notice a bunch of text behind each character, text that actually serves as the official new logos of each character’s name.

The designs were created by five artists that Capcom and ad agency Ammirati hand picked; 123Klan, Dalek, Futura, Cody Hudson and Grotesk. You’ll see print versions of the artwork in magazines on newsstands now, including Vibe and Complex. After the break, take a look at some the official logos of the game’s many characters, as well as some of the new magazine ads.

New Tournament Mode revealed for Super Street Fighter IV

Any Street Fighter fan will tell you, the best part of the series is the game’s competitive nature. Crafting your skills to become the ultimate player, and making your friends cry in the process is the goal of any veteran SF player. Capcom has taken that competitive gameplay to a new level, with the reveal of the new Tournament Mode, coming to Super Street Fighter IV.

Up to 8 players can battle it out in the new mode, which will be available for both Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. You’ll be able to customize time, round amount and region of each tournament, with special features available to the host, including authority to customize the lineup. Plus, if you enjoy watching matches, the host will be able to save an entire replay of the full tournament for their viewing pleasure.

With the game shipping April 27th, the Tournament Mode sadly won’t be available until June 15th via download. Luckily, the mode will be free to everyone to download.

Street Fighter Avatars heading to Xbox 360

Super Street Fighter IV is coming next week, and Microsoft is gearing up for the release with a bunch of new Avatar costumes. 16 of the game’s characters will be getting the Avatar-treatment, including Dudley and his mustache.

The announcement was revealed at the end of the SSFIV trailer, which showed off the new Tournament Mode.

With epic announcements and releases, it looks like Capcom has every intention of dominating April, and beyond.

Super Street Fighter IV reward revealed for SFIV owners

Capcom stated a few months back that those who purchased Street Fighter IV would get an exclusive bonus when purchasing the updated “better” version, Super Street Fighter IV. So what is the perk?

Producer Yoshinori Ono revealed to GameSpot that players will receive two unique graphical filters for your character. Riiiiight.

The first is a pencil shader that adds cross hatching to your fighter’s model and the second is an ink shader that adds an ink wash.

Well there you have it. Not exactly worth the cost of having to pay $60 for the original, and then having to pay $40 for the new Super version. Then again, isn’t $100 worth the price of having the latest and greatest Street Fighter? You bet!

More Super Street Fighter IV character changes revealed

With the clock ticking ’til the game’s April 27th release, a few more details about Super Street Fighter IV have come to the surface, thanks to the game’s developers blog. Luckily for us, the details were translated by website Shoryuken.

Overall, the game’s bosses are going to be harder when played on a higher difficulty, and easier on the lower difficulty settings, compared to their performance in SFIV. The change will allow novices to get in and fight, while providing a much more challenging experience for the true SF competitors.

Specifically, the devs talked about adjustments made to specific character moves. For instance, Rufus’ Falcon Kick won’t damage enemies as greatly as before. Alternately, El Fuerte’s Guacamole Leg Press will be more damaging compared to SFIV. Seth however, was in large part left the same with some minor revisions to his moves. Unfortunately for some, Seth’s still going to be quite challenging to defeat.

The devs also noted that the changes made to characters were in large part because of the fans reaction and input to the original Street Fighter IV. Between fan’s input and preserving the originality of the characters, they set out to make the game perfect as possible. With two weeks left, I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
