Did you realize it’s been 25 years since Super Mario Brothers debuted on NES? To commemorate the occasion, Donna of Arcade Art has made another paint by pixel piece, a clipped shot of the cover art with a graffiti-inspired spray paint border. The painting is priced at $200, which may seem steep…but it’s a small price in comparison to the entertainment Mario has given us all these years. Happy silver anniversary, Super Mario Brothers!

This piece is called Steamboat Mario and was made by Dan Helle as an entry in a video game character inspired art show. I’m impressed! Bowser’s face looks just like Pete! Peach is lookin’ a little Olive Oil-ish and I’ve yet to identify what’s coming out of the hem of her dress, but its awesome nonetheless!

With the enormous amount of “gaming culture” posts I do, its getting increasingly difficult to find new ways to say “Hey, look at this cool thing!”. So, uhh…hey, look at this cool thing. Its a custom Koopa Trooper guitar, and it plays and everything. Sweet. I don’t know how I’ll ever look at a normal guitar or turtle ever again.

I’m with GoNintendo on this one–those homebrewers work ridiculously fast! Save for an error here and there, this World 1-1 recreation from the original Super Mario Brothers is as accurate as it is entertaining. If you’re like me, and didn’t watch any gameplay videos, you may enjoy seeing how certain features from the original New Super Mario Brothers translated on the Wii big screen.

Sadly, comments are disabled on this video so there’s no chance to compliment the hacker, piss and moan about the emulator/slow frame rate, or mention that having listened to the inserted music, I now want to go clubbing. All the same, I can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with next.
