Fan Spotlight: Michael Bade & the Gingerbread DS

Remember that Nintendo gingerbread project I posted not too long ago? Well, one of the project’s team members, Michael Bade, shared with me some of background information on the project. Everything from the group’s thoughts and the whole gingerbread construction, to their favorite memories and future aspirations.

All of what Michael wanted to share with you is included after the break, as well as a second round of those photos for you to enjoy on this Christmas Eve. Grab some hot cocoa, a warm blanket, and cozy on up with your laptop a safe distance from the fireplace and have a read!

Snowballs and scarves in the Gingerbread Kingdom

We’ve seen game cakes and more game cakes, and even the occasional batch of cupcakes over the years. But around this time of year, gingerbread houses are where it’s at!

I exchanged a few emails last month with Michael Bade, who worked on the team that brought the gingerbread DS you see above to life. It went on display at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel on November 24th, and you can check out some of the close-up shots of the snowball fight past the break. Enjoy!

LittleBigWorld 1-1

With all the customization available in LittleBigPlanet, there are surely more of these types of levels to come. For the most part the recreation is pretty accurate, and it gives you a real appreciation to how fluid and speedy Mario is. My favorite part is how you can’t reach the first block. Classic.

Friday Night Concerts: Super Mario Percussion

Published by Christian
Tags: Friday Night Concerts, Music, Super Mario Bros.

It’s baseball season! We’ll go with Super Mario tunes for the next couple of weeks of concerts, leading up to the launch of Mario Super Sluggers. Whoa. Forgot that was coming, didn’t you?

Mario themes are super popular with percussion ensembles for that non-challenging, novelty piece during a percussion ensemble concert. As such, it was not hard at all to find something to pick for this week. I decided to go with an April 15, 2007 performance by the Rollins College Percussion Ensemble - I figured better instruments, more experienced players, and hopefully more mature musicians than the high school ensemble videos out there.

Another example of “paper” Mario

Published by Christian
Tags: Mosaics, Super Mario Bros.

What do boyfriends and girlfriends do when they have endless amounts of time to spend with each other? That’s right, they make video game art. Genio Latenio and his girlfriend took three months to complete a paper mosaic themed after Super Mario Bros. (yes, it could take much less time to make what you see here, but they were too lazy to get more tape and glue to finish it for a while).

I sure miss the days when I had that kind of time to spare and be all crafty. It’s been, what… two years since I really sat down with an art project?

Super Chuck Norris Bros. is pure awesome

“Chuck Norris doesn’t need a mushroom — Chuck Norris needs a shotgun.” That was one of the many hilarious things from the video linked above, which shows how Chuck Norris would handle things in your typical level from Mario Bros. Between the chainsaws, flamethrowers and shotgun, I think it’s safe to say the goombas would prefer Mario over Chuck any day of the week.
