Free Street Fighter IV iPhone update adds Dee Jay and Sagat

Developer’s tend to neglect their games once released, especially after eight months on the market. Not Capcom, as the company has announced two additional fan favorites to join the growing list of fighters on the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV. The free update, available now, adds the Jamaican wonder Dee Jay, as well as series veteran Sagat.

Intially equipped with just eight players, the game has slowly crawled up to 14. Each character addition has been free, built-in to the price of the $9.99 game.

Glad to see Capcom is still supporting the game! And something tells me these won’t be the last character additions we see.

C. Viper and E. Honda join Street Fighter IV on iPhone

Capcom keeps offering free character updates to the iPhone/ iPod Touch version of Street Fighter IV. Isn’t that nice? We should thank them with hugs.

This week brings two new characters set to battle on the mobile version of the game; E. Honda and the stylish C. Viper (who may or may not be in Marvel vs. Capcom 3). Recently, new free character additions have included soviet Zangief and UK’s Cammy. Currently, the roster has increased to 12 fighters, with no sign of slowing down soon. Other new additions to the game include premium costumes for Ryu and Chun-Li.

Crimson Viper outed as Marvel vs. Capcom 3 contender

I’d recognize that shadowy bouffant anywhere!

A Capcom-Unity member noticed an unannounced character on the Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds roster, from an E3 silhouette that featured the signature hairstyle of Street Fighter IV’s Crimson Viper.

It’s pretty obvious, as her raccoon stuffed hair is a dead giveaway. Just take a look at the comparison photos above (circled in red).

So are you excited about the unannounced announcement? Actually, maybe I’m getting ahead of myself. It could always just be Dan Aykroyd, reprising his most beloved role as Beldar Conehead.

Street Fighter: Don’t Hassel the Hoff edition

If there are two live action shows on TV that I loved during my childhood, it was watching Baywatch and reruns of Knight Rider. It seems Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono shares my high view of David Hasselhoff, based on his latest interpretation of a Hoff versus Hoff Street Fighter.

Implementing Hoff’s signature mug onto the Street Fighter selection screen was pure genius. But imagining a Michael Knight versus Mitch Bucannon Street Fighter would be a dream come true. Make it happen.

C. Viper revealed as free download for Street Fighter IV on iPhone

It’s been confirmed that Capcom will be releasing C. Viper as an upcoming downloadable for Street Fighter IV on the iPhone. The new-ish Street Fighter siren will be joining the line-up of ten already on the iPhone iteration, but the date is as yet unknown. Oh, and did I not tell you the best part? The download is free, as a thanks from Capcom for the continuing support. Until then, check out the trailer of C. Viper in action, above, and the screen caps in our gallery below.

Street Fighter IV’s Seth is the Game Genie!

Street Fighter IV’s boss baddie Seth sure looked familiar when I first laid eyes on him. But who could he resemble? Was it Mr. Clean? John Locke? Then, it hit me.

If it isn’t the Game Genie himself! From the muscles, to the baldness, to the electric shocks, the similarities are too great to be a coincidence.

Mystery challenger approaching Street Fighter IV for iPhone

Capcom is teasing the release of a second free downloadable character for their popular iPhone version of Street Fighter IV. Recently players acquired Cammy as a special downloadable character, rounding out the lineup to a solid 9 players.

The 10th character will be announced on June 8th. In addition, Capcom is allowing fans to enter for a chance to win prizes, including 5 iPod Touch limited edition Street Fighter cases, and one limited edition iPod Touch. All you have to do is tweet who you think the new challenger is on Twitter, followed by the hashtag #sf4i1006. The contest results will be announced on June 18th.

Roundtable launching official Street Fighter IV HDTV

You’ve got Street Fighter IV, you’re playing it in HD. Everything’s all fine and dandy.

Well, guess what. Now, that’s just not good enough! Roundtable Concepts, Inc. is launching a set of 32″, 40″, 42″ and 46″ LED HDTVs featuring Street Fighter IV characters right on the casing. If that’s not enough, the splash image you see in the photo will also show up on the screen for 8 seconds each time you turn on the TV!

“We are extremely excited to be working with Roundtable Concepts, Inc. on this new initiative,” says Seon King, Senior Director of licensing at Capcom. ”There is such a natural partnership between video games and consumer electronics – especially televisions and monitors – that a partnership like this was a perfect fit. We hope that our Street Fighter fans will enjoy their favorite fighting game on one of these HDTV’s for the ultimate Street Fighter experience.”

These special TVs don’t yet have a release date or price, but if you already have an HDTV, you can figure it’ll take about as large a bite out of your wallet. Again.

Super Street Fighter IV reward revealed for SFIV owners

Capcom stated a few months back that those who purchased Street Fighter IV would get an exclusive bonus when purchasing the updated “better” version, Super Street Fighter IV. So what is the perk?

Producer Yoshinori Ono revealed to GameSpot that players will receive two unique graphical filters for your character. Riiiiight.

The first is a pencil shader that adds cross hatching to your fighter’s model and the second is an ink shader that adds an ink wash.

Well there you have it. Not exactly worth the cost of having to pay $60 for the original, and then having to pay $40 for the new Super version. Then again, isn’t $100 worth the price of having the latest and greatest Street Fighter? You bet!

Cammy coming to Street Fighter iPhone for free

Everyone’s favorite UK fighter Cammy is proudly coming to the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV. The game originally featured eight playable characters; Ryu, Chun-Li, M.Bison, Dhalsim, Abel, Blanka, Ken and Guile. Cammy’s appearance will mark the first character addition to the game.

Of course the best news is, Cammy is coming to the game as part of a free downloadable update. Something tells me Cammy won’t be the last character to be added to the roster of fighters for the portable SF game.

More Super Street Fighter IV character changes revealed

With the clock ticking ’til the game’s April 27th release, a few more details about Super Street Fighter IV have come to the surface, thanks to the game’s developers blog. Luckily for us, the details were translated by website Shoryuken.

Overall, the game’s bosses are going to be harder when played on a higher difficulty, and easier on the lower difficulty settings, compared to their performance in SFIV. The change will allow novices to get in and fight, while providing a much more challenging experience for the true SF competitors.

Specifically, the devs talked about adjustments made to specific character moves. For instance, Rufus’ Falcon Kick won’t damage enemies as greatly as before. Alternately, El Fuerte’s Guacamole Leg Press will be more damaging compared to SFIV. Seth however, was in large part left the same with some minor revisions to his moves. Unfortunately for some, Seth’s still going to be quite challenging to defeat.

The devs also noted that the changes made to characters were in large part because of the fans reaction and input to the original Street Fighter IV. Between fan’s input and preserving the originality of the characters, they set out to make the game perfect as possible. With two weeks left, I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

Super Street Fighter IV to be distinctive end to series

Unless they decide to change their plans, Capcom seems set on ending the Street Fighter IV series with Super Street Fighter IV. Speaking with the Official Xbox Magazine, producer Yoshinori Ono spoke about the series’ and franchise’s future.

If Super Street Fighter IV is successful, will you continue with the series or will you look to move onto other fighting games?
I have no intention of carrying on Street Fighter IV into Hyper Street Fighter IV or Ultra Street Fighter IV, because I’m aware of the mistakes Capcom has made in the past. So what we would like to do instead is to broaden the appeal because if we go onto Hyper Street Fighter IV or Ultra Street Fighter IV, we’d be narrowing the appeal to the top hardcore players, as we’ve seen with Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. So whether it would be a different IP or another Street Fighter, we’d like to keep options open. But in terms of Street Fighter IV, this is definitive.

So this is the last game in the Street Fighter IV series?
Super Street Fighter IV should be the distinctive end. Obviously there can be updates via DLC so perhaps in 2011, we could upload a patch for Super Street Fighter IV 2011 edition that would have tuning and balancing. But as a packaged product, I think this is the last.

So I guess that means they’ll be forgoing a Wii release. Onward and upward to Street Fighter V, then!

EGM officially launches new online magazine

The once defunct beloved gaming magazine EGM is now back, in both print and online form. EGM will return as a monthly magazine, while EGMi will serve as a weekly digital version, which will include exclusive features not in the magazine.

The first issue of EGM will feature Super Street Fighter IV as its cover story. The mag will also provide new articles regarding Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Halo: Reach. Also available is the EGMi of the never released last issue of the EGM print mag, before closing, which coincidentally featured Street Fighter IV.

Registration is open, as you’ll need a subscription to view the content. The current deal being offered starts at $24.99 for 12 print issues of EGM, with 52 digital issues of EGMi.

Street Fighter IV iPhone trailer shows off VS. gameplay

For those of you who still haven’t seen how the touch screen arcade controls work on the iPhone/Touch version of Street Fighter IV, this trailer is for you. You’ll also see a side by side VS match up, which is available through Bluetooth. What you won’t see? A tangible release date. We still have no official day.

Street Fighter IV debuts in the App Store for $10 sometime this month.
