It’s a rainy day here in Chicago — one of those days where you just don’t really feel like being productive. You need something to keep you busy, something to keep you entertained. The solution? A Google Easter egg for Star Fox fans!

Head on over to the Google home page and search for “Do a barrel roll” to entertain yourself for the rest of the afternoon… assuming you’re using Safari, Firefox, or Chrome — sorry IE fans!

So checking in with Star Fox 64 3D…um, yeah, it still looks awesome. And I still want it. Above is five minutes of footage from the Japanese gameplay trailer and…dare I say it? It looks a bit better than the E3 2011 trailer. That could be my deep longing to blast things talking though.

Star Fox 64 3D releases July 14, 2011 in Japan, with a September 11, 2011 release in North America.

Earlier this month, Shigeru Miyamoto’s claimed in an interview that he’d like to see a new Star Fox title be made. Now, Platinum Games’ Hideki Kamiya also seems interested in the revival of Fox and friends. Via his Twitter, Kamiya commented on the possibility of a new Star Fox title.

If they had the team that made Star Fox 64 make it… I want Nintendo’s staff to come to Platinum, stick guns at us and tell us ‘You guys make a new Star Fox.’

Kamiya revealed himself to be a great fan of the series, especially the 64 entry. Hopefully Nintendo comes to their senses, or is purposely waiting to release the next title in the series on an HD Nintendo console. Still, I’m amazed that more flight sims haven’t appeared on the Wii, given the motion controls. I don’t think I’ll ever understand why a new Star Fox or Pilotwings hasn’t appeared on the shiny white console.

Why do people announce these projects before they’re finished? It’s been proven before to be a bad idea. Sure, Nintendo may not hate its fans as much as Square Enix, and they have been known to let certain things slide, but can anything good really come from showing off this trailer for Shadows of Lylat, a Star Fox fangame that actually looks better than an official Star Fox game?

The game has been in development for 6 years already. It takes place between Star Fox 64 and Adventures on Dinosaur Planet (and promises to be more like the former than the latter, thankfully) and will feature both air and land missions. Like all fan projects, it will be a while before this one is ready to go. The development team does hope to have a demo ready as soon as they can.

As if this weren’t funny enough in it’s own right, it makes it even better with a little Nintendo nostalgia thrown into the mix. I by no means condone animal cruelty, but by all means condone animal hilarity. I can’t stop barrel rolling with laughter… or dare i say, brofl.
