In case you haven’t seen it already, a new DLC pack is available in the Xbox 360 Marketplace for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. Metal Sonic joins the fray is his “Metal Booster” speeder bike, and you get an additional racing track called “Egg Hanger,” based on the original Death Egg Zone. On top of that, 5 new background music tracks (“Cosmic Fall,” “General Offensive,” “Never Let It Go,” “Egg Fleet,” and “Space Gadget”) are included as part of the package, which goes for 560 MSP.

The PS3 release for all of this, meanwhile, will be released on April 22nd (Earth Day!) for $7.99.

Forget about that other Sonic title for a minute. With just a few weeks left before the game releases, SEGA has pumped out a brand new trailer for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing.  The video spends some time showing off some of the non-Sonic characters for a change. Everyone from Crazy Taxi’s B.D. Joe to The House of the Dead: EX’s Zobio and Zobiko is included.

Additionally, the trailer shows off some of the special character moves. Amy apparently uses a giant whack-a-mole hammer to bash her opponents, while Akira Yuki unleashes a powerful punch to blast your car ahead of the rest. SEGA has always been known to pump out the best racing titles, and I’m guessing this All-Starred installment will be well received too.

The roster for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing seems to have around 2,000 racers at this point. If your favorite SEGA character hasn’t been announced yet, fear not. SEGA’s European blog has confirmed even more playable characters.  Virtua Fighter’s Jacky and Akira are set to race in a red Ferrari. Of course the red Ferrari was my ride of choice in SEGA’s arcade racer OutRun, an inclusion that’s too perfect to not be intentional.

Additionally, old school characters Mobo and Robo will be joining the game. The two are known from the Sega Genesis title Bonanza Bros. Additionally, SEGA announced that while not included as a playable character, NiGHTS is getting represented.

We’ve given NiGHTS a very important role. He starts all the races, and also finishes them too! He also resides over Time Trial, whenever you set a new lap record, you’ll have NiGHTS flying along with you celebrating!

You’ve really got to hand it to SEGA for going all out on this racer. February 23rd can’t come soon enough.

While the roster is dwindling this week on Project Needlemouse, the roster is growing for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing.  SEGA has a new trailer for the racing game that shows off more racers, more All-Star moves and more courses, 24 in total.

Some of the stages for the game look inspired by Diddy Kong Racing, or maybe that’s just wishful thinking.  Take a look at the trailer and see if you can spot the new additions. I really can not wait for this game!

With the announcement of Avatars as exclusive in-game characters for Microsoft’s version of Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, there was little doubt that Nintendo’s Miis wouldn’t be invited to the party.  Today, SEGA has announced that Miis will be ready to race when the game launches. Don’t think that the Mii is just a shallow character, as a unique All-Star move will be available when you select to use your Mii characters (shown above). That All-Star move looks identical to the move shown in images for Xbox Avatars.

According to GoNintendo, SEGA also announced via their Facebook page a car creation mode that will allow players to customize their own rides.

This game is looking better and better by the day.

UPDATE: SEGA has confirmed that there is no customization for vehicles.  That post was since deleted.

Sonic and SEGA’s All-Stars Racing is just around the bend, with new details about the game being announced weekly. Today, we’re getting a look of some new merch, courtesy of SEGA Europe; a privacy door hanger that will be included in the game box.  As previously mentioned, the Wii version of the game will be receiving a Wii steering wheel bundle.  Images of the Wii steering wheel boxart are being finalized, but an image of the wheel is below.

According to the SEGA Europe blog, different bundles will be released but may vary by region, so we’ll have to wait closer to the game’s release date to know if some of these items are region exclusives.  Either way, SEGA sure is going all out for Sonic and friend’s debut (car) racing title.

Looks like this racing roster is getting more impressive.  According to the supposed boxart of the Xbox 360 version of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, as seen on game designer Christ Lewis’ personal website, Banjo and Kazooie are joining in on the Sega fun.  With their iconic mugs clearly visible on the dashboard on the back cover, it seems like their addition to the game is all but officially confirmed.

Of course possibly a photoshop job, or boxart mockup, it seems a bit too random to be fake.  Then again the back of the boxart seems odd.  So much focus on resembling the inside of a kart, and not so much on the tons of Sega racers.  Just out of sheer hope, I’m labeling this one as fact!

Remember Sonic R? Or how about Sonic Drift and Sonic Drift 2? Or what about Sonic Riders? No? There’s probably a good reason for that. Speed forward to today, when we learn that SEGA has announced Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing for the Wii, DS, 360, PS3, and PC. Getting nervous yet?

Actually, aside from the concept of sticking Sonic in a vehicle slower than the speed of sound, it looks somewhat promising. It takes cues from Mario Kart Wii and allows for the driving of cars, motorbikes, planes, and bananas (…wait, what?) as you race characters like Sonic, Tails, Dr. Eggman, Amy Rose, AiAi, Amigo, and more around the race tracks. Each character even has their own “All-Star” move, such as Super Sonic or Tails Tornado.

What I’d like to know is, you look around at some of the Green Hills-themed stages in the screens after the break and wonder, “Why can’t we get a stage in a normal Sonic game to be this simple?” Anyway, screens plus the video trailer after the break, and you can expect this game by next year.
