Nintendo promoting impressive third-party fall line-up

We discussed many of the titles rounding out 2010, many of which coming to Nintendo consoles. Today Nintendo wants to remind all of you about their fall lineup of third-party games and peripherals for their Wii and Nintendo DS handhelds.

Nintendo is delighted to host Junction Point’s Disney Epic Mickey, as well as uDraw GameTablet, THQ’s answer to Mario Paint. And who’s not excited for James Bond’s return in GoldenEye 007 exclusively for Wii on November 2, a surprising game announcement that caused me to pee my pants excessively. And don’t forget Sega’s Sonic Colors — due November 16 — which recently received a 9.0 in December’s issue of Nintendo Power.

Third-Party Partners Unleash Great Games, Awesome Peripherals

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 27, 2010 – Nintendo’s third-party publishing partners are bringing out their heavy hitters this holiday season. Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ owners will have a sizable library of new games to choose from, as well as some cool new peripherals.

“Third-party publishers realize the wide appeal of Nintendo systems and come up with creations that challenge veteran gamers and invite new ones to play,” said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America’s vice president of Licensing. “We’re constantly amazed at the creative ways these talented developers continue to push the boundaries of our hardware. We thank our partners for their continued support.”

Disney Epic Mickey for the Wii console marries lush graphics and incredible game play, as players draw and erase elements of the cartoon world known as Wasteland. Mickey Mouse stars alongside 80 years of memorable and forgotten Disney characters in a game that contains echoes of platforming and role-playing. The choices that players make – to create or erase – have wide-ranging implications on how the game unfolds. The game launches Nov. 30. (ESRB Rating: Everyone).

“I’ve been waiting my whole professional career to have an opportunity to make the game I’ve always dreamed of making,” said Warren Spector, general manager and creative director, Disney Interactive Studios’ Junction Point in Austin, Texas. “The ability to utilize the Wii gestural control to reach the broadest possible audience is the perfect way to make Mickey Mouse a true video game hero.”

THQ’s uDraw™ GameTablet™ accessory is scheduled to launch Nov. 14. It comes with uDraw™ Studio software, which lets users create any kind of artwork they can imagine. Players can select from a variety of drawing media, including pens, an airbrush or chalk, and 11 canvas types, including notebook paper, cardboard and concrete. A playback function lets artists show a time-lapse video of their creations from conception to execution. Users can even save their creations on an SD memory card (sold separately) to print or share it with others. Other games that use the exclusive peripheral include uDraw™ Pictionary and uDraw™ Dood’s Big Adventure. (ESRB Rating: Everyone).

“The uDraw GameTablet is designed to appeal to a broad audience at a compelling price point,” said THQ President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Farrell. “The fun is unlimited: you can doodle, create serious art or enjoy great family entertainment with games like Pictionary.”

Performance Designed Products launches its Headbanger Headset for Wii on Nov. 9. For the first time, players will be able to use a headset to chat in real time and send voice messages when used with compatible games such as Call of Duty®: Black Ops (ESRB Rating: Mature) by Activision or Conduit 2™ (ESRB Rating: Rating Pending) by SEGA.

Other key third-party Wii games available this fall and holiday season include:

Just Dance® 2, Ubisoft’s sequel to the hit original, which includes more than 40 new music tracks, plus dance moves choreographed by experts in all types of music. Just Dance® has sold more than 4 million units worldwide. Just Dance 2 launched on Oct. 12. (ESRB Rating: Everyone 10 and Older)
GoldenEye 007™ for Wii, Activision Publishing’s new game based on the legendary GoldenEye movie. The game stars Daniel Craig’s James Bond and lets players take charge of the gritty action as they try to outwit, outmaneuver and overtake an arms syndicate that threatens the world. GoldenEye 007 supports classic four-player split-screen modes and up to eight players can play together online. The game launches Nov. 2 and is also available in a special bundle with an ultra-cool gold-colored Classic Controller Pro™. (ESRB Rating: Teen)
SEGA’s Sonic Colors™, which launches Nov. 16. Sonic The Hedgehog takes on a wild new adventure as he attempts to defeat the diabolical Dr. Eggman. Sonic collects and uses new power-ups derived from the colored energy of an alien race called the Wisps. The game blends 3D and classic 2D perspectives, and includes heavy doses of the nonstop, high-speed action that Sonic is known for. (ESRB Rating: Everyone)

On the portable Nintendo DS family of systems, some key third-party games include:

Super Scribblenauts™ from WB Games, the sequel to the award-winning Scribblenauts™. The game, which launched Oct. 12, introduces a new adjective system that lets players change the color, size and behaviors of objects. Players can create any object that comes to mind to help Maxwell find a way to claim his Starite on 120 new levels. (ESRB Rating: Everyone 10 and Older)
Rock Band® 3 from MTV Games, the hand-held exclusive version of this beloved music franchise. The game includes 25 songs from top recording artists, with eight play modes. Players can watch their bands rise from local legends to world-famous rock stars, or even compete in head-to-head multiplayer battles. Rock Band 3 launched Oct. 26. (ESRB Rating: Everyone 10 and Older)
GoldenEye 007, a new first-person action game. The Nintendo DS version of GoldenEye 007 offers all of the epic action of James Bond’s greatest adventure in both single- and multiplayer modes and is available on Nov. 2. (ESRB Rating: Teen)
Sonic Colors from SEGA. The portable version makes use of both Nintendo DS screens, and includes power-ups not found in the Wii version. It has all the same great Sonic action but players can take it with them on the go. The game launches Nov. 16. (ESRB Rating: Everyone)

Fist pumpin’ for Q4!

DJ Pauly D and Disney’s Goofy G have it right. 2010′s fourth quarter is a time to celebrate, considering the epic game releases all happening with a few short weeks of each other. After just playing EA Canada’s NBA Jam and Good-Feel and HAL Laboratory’s Kirby’s Epic Yarn, we’re about to launch head first into a leaf sized pile of triple-A titles. From war shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops, to retro shooter GoldenEye 007. From DK’s jungle hi-jinx in Donkey Kong Country Returns, to a revitalized Mickey Mouse in Disney Epic Mickey.

This season is for all gamers.

NBA Baller Battle: Will you be Jammin’ or Jordan?

October 5th marks the release of two stellar basketball software offerings, with 2K Sports’ release of NBA 2K11 and EA Sports’ much anticipated NBA Jam. Sure, each has its perks, with 2K11 featuring top notch graphics, plus the return of the one and only Michael Jordan, while Jam marks a rebirth for the series, mixing players old and new in classic arcade style.

NBA 2K11 is set to release on all major consoles, while NBA Jam is Wii exclusive until later this year.

So the question is, which one are you going to choose? Discuss!

Live Blog: Nintendo 3DS price and release date revealed!

After record levels of gamer speculation, hypothesizing and theorizing, Nintendo of Japan is finally ready to reveal more about the company’s upcoming handheld device, the Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo 3DS achieves a 3-D visual effect completely visible to the naked eye, without the need of special glasses. Details of the company’s latest hardware device are coming live from an event solely dedicated to the new platform, held in Tokyo, Japan as we speak.

UPDATE: Nintendo has announced the Nintendo 3DS handheld is coming to Japan February 26th for roughly $298 USD, and North America/ Europe in March 2011.

Original Post: Just a reminder to everyone that Nintendo is set to reveal the price and release date for their upcoming 3-D capable handheld, the Nintendo 3DS. As we mentioned, the event will take place in Japan at 2pm, which is actually 1am here on the east coast.

Reminder: Nintendo to reveal 3DS details September 29

On Wednesday September 29th, Nintendo of Japan will finally present the world with the secretive details surrounding their upcoming handheld, the Nintendo 3DS. All we’ve known about the 3D capable device’s release is the confirmed “by March 2011″ timeframe. Thankfully, in just four days we’ll know a heck of a lot more, at an event at the Makuhari venue within Tokyo, which recently housed the Tokyo Game Show.

We should learn the handheld’s technical specifications, and see the final build of the product. In the event that N.O.J. focuses on the price and release date for Japan only, you can expect Nintendo of America (and Europe) to give specific region based details shortly following the presentation. No matter what, we’ll bring you every ounce of information as soon as it’s given, so be sure to check back constantly!

Will the 3DS release in 2010? Will it launch at the rumored $249 price point? Can it teleport Shigeru Miyamoto into your living room? All will be revealed next week.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow gets October 5th release

Konami is set to release the next title within the Belmont family’s death defying adventures this fall. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is set for an October 5th release for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles.

Play as Gabriel Belmont through 50 well designed 3D stages as he attempts to rid the world of the walking dead by combining the pieces of the powerful God Mask. While on your journey, you’ll encounter a diverse group of nearly 50 enemies and mind bending puzzles to keep you on your toes.

Nintendo gives releases dates to 2010′s biggest titles

No more waiting, guessing and pondering folks, as Nintendo today has given release dates to several of their key titles for the rest of the year. And there are a lot of heavy hitters on this list. Without further adieu, here’s the list:

Nintendo delays Metroid, Sin & Punishment 2

Rumors circulated the Internet that Nintendo would be delaying Metroid: Other M and Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. Today, Nintendo confirmed suspicious with a new press releasing, while dating other Wii and DS titles.

Metroid: Other M will now launch on August 31st, while the Sin & Punishment sequel will launch June 27th. This was definitely the right move, considering most Ninty fans will be busy playing Super Mario Galaxy 2, which launches May 23rd.

Other releases noted are Photo Dojo and Earthworm Jim on May 10th, Bit.Trip.Runner, Frogger Returns and Looksley’s Line Up on May 17th, Metal Torrent on May 24th, X-Scape and Hero of Sparta on May 31st, Flametrail on June 7th and A Kappa’s Trail on June 14th.

• Sin & Punishment: Star Successor (Wii, June 27): The incredible new shooter game from legendary developer Treasure, Sin & Punishment: Star Successor features nonstop action with two playable characters and international online leaderboards to track high scores. Using the Wii Remote™ pointer functionality, the game offers unprecedented precision in the shooter genre. Broadband Internet access is required for online features.

• Metroid: Other M (Wii, Aug. 31): Developed for the Wii console through a collaboration by Nintendo and the world-renowned Team Ninja, this newest installment of the Metroid saga looks at the classic franchise from a new perspective: While much of the game is reminiscent of 2-D side-scrollers, players can switch the perspective into 3-D at any time as they explore the twisting passages of a derelict space station and delve deep into a cinematic, never-before-told story of bounty hunter Samus Aran’s past. This new approach uses a new control scheme in which players use the Wii Remote controller, held sideways, to battle enemies and navigate the expansive, gorgeous environments in classic Metroid fashion, then aim at the screen with the Wii Remote pointer to blast foes in first-person and hunt the world for clues and hidden passages.

Run, gun, swing from hooks with your head, launch cows, bungee jump, rocket through speed levels and more, in crazy universes that offer huge game-play possibilities. Earn bonuses with facial expression-based challenges that track your face using the Nintendo DSi camera. Put on a smile, frown or make a variety of other faces to mimic Jim.

• BIT.TRIP RUNNER (WiiWare, Aksys Games, May 17): Marking the first character-based adventure for CaptainVideo, the newest installment in the BIT.TRIP series features rhythm-based action platforming, more than 50 challenges to complete and a pounding chiptune-inspired soundtrack.

• Looksley’s Line Up™ (Nintendo DSiWare, May 17): In this unique take on hidden picture games, Looksley the rabbit needs your help to find inspiring objects so he can finish the story he’s writing. The objects are hidden in 3-D dioramas made up of cutout layers that shift as you move the Nintendo DSi system. Unique Nintendo DSi camera-based controls let you peer deep into the game’s scenes and hunt for hidden objects just by moving the Nintendo DSi.

• Frogger Returns (Nintendo DSiWare, Konami, May 17): Frogger Returns takes the challenge of the arcade classic Frogger and brings it to the Nintendo DSiWare service for the first time. Classic top-down 2-D game-play is updated with colorful 3-D graphics, a new perspective, new levels, new enemies and game-changing power-ups to dodge and grab.

• Metal Torrent™ (Nintendo DSiWare, May 24): Compete with players around the world for the highest score in this new action game inspired by classic arcade shoot-’em-ups. Convert enemy bullets into score-generating cubes. Continuously absorb cubes to create score-accelerating combos. Download replay videos from top players via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, or if you make the top five scores, upload your own video.

• X-Scape™ (Nintendo DSiWare, May 31): Take on an epic space adventure in X-Scape. As captain of the VIXIV, a highly advanced space tank, you’ll roam the surface of dozens of alien worlds, battling the forces of an empire that is out to destroy you. The touch screen makes controlling your vehicle a snap, and your helpful robot companion is there every step of the way to help you with advice and weapon upgrades.

• Hero of Sparta (Nintendo DSiWare, Gameloft, May 31): Battle like the fierce Spartan warrior you are to avoid a tragic death as you journey through mythical lands and even probe the depths of the Underworld. You will fight the most phenomenal monsters from mythology, defy Minotaurs and the Cyclops, and challenge the gods themselves!

• Flametail™ (Nintendo DSiWare, June 7): Clean up the space lanes of floating garbage with the starship Flametail. As you wind your way through the mind-bending obstacle course, your flaming tail will ignite the piles of rubbish to eliminate them. But be careful to not get caught in a dead end, or let the barrier that’s following you reach your tail. This puzzle action game is easy for anyone to pick up and play.

• A Kappa’s Trail (Nintendo DSiWare, June 14): Guide a little mythical river spirit to the human world with your Nintendo DSi stylus in this puzzle adventure. Draw a trail, and the little “kappa” will follow. It’s up to you to ensure he makes it through the gauntlet of enemies and treacherous paths of the Kappa Trail.

Arkham Asylum 2 delayed until Q1?

It appears Batman‘s return to consoles may not happen in 2010. According to MCV, some UK retailers are being told Arkham Asylum 2 will likely release early Q1, to avoid the rush of Christmas competition.

Although a specific release date was never announced, a retailer told MCV that Warner’s plans are to “dominate the first quarter of 2011 instead, when it can get maximum retail space and mind share amongst gamers.”

Despite the successes of the first title, I guess you can never be too careful when it comes to planning a release date.

Nintendo reveals spring release dates in the UK

Nintendo UK has announced their second quarter (April through June) release schedule. It was already announced that Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Skies would be coming May 7th, No More Heroes 2 on May 22nd, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on June 11th. There are several new revelations in the lists for both of Nintendo’s platforms, but it seems that Metroid: Other M will miss the second quarter window, hopefully arriving shortly after in July or August.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 dated for May 27th in Japan

A retailer meeting held by Nintendo in Japan has revealed three key release dates for Wii titles. The biggest news is undoubtedly the release of Super Mario Galaxy 2 on May 27th, only 4 days after the game’s North American release, and for only ¥5,800. Following the trip into space, we’ll land onto the backs of gods in Xenoblade, releasing on June 10th for a pricier ¥6,800. After that, Atlus’ Hospital (which is the Japanese title for Trauma Team) will be available June 17th in Japan with the biggest price tag of the three: ¥6,980.

That’d be like paying $74.99 for Trauma Team here in the States. I guess Japan didn’t get the money-ectomy.

No More Heroes 2 dated for May 28th in Europe

Goichi Suda’s No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle has been critically acclaimed ever since it was released in the States in January. For those of you across the Atlantic, Rising Star Games has confirmed when exactly you’ll be able to get in on the fun. Trvais will finally touchdown in Europe on May 28, 2010!

After Burner Climax takes flight next month

On April 21st, SEGA will be releasing a revamped remake of the arcade flight favorite After Burner. The new title, After Burner Climax, will feature stunning HD quality visuals, with 20 stages and up to three planes to choose from. The title also promises to offer an improved gameplay, including a slow down feature that better allows users to avoid enemy missiles.

This is one genre that just hasn’t been explored the way it should be. Luckily, this new trend allows old school arcade favorites to be looked at with the respect that they deserve. As I always say, better to remake a great game than release some low budget, poor quality crap fest! It’s true, I always say that.

After Burner Climax will be available for $9.99 on PSN and 800 Microsoft Points for Xbox Live.

Kane & Lynch 2 set for release this August

IO Interactive has announced plans to launch Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days August 24th in North America. The game is set to release August 27th in Europe. The sequel is a crime shooter that continues the journey of two criminals, Kane and Lynch, throughout a 48 hour period.

“We believe the unique visuals and relentless gameplay has created an intensity never delivered in a videogame before,” said Niels Jørgensen, IO Interactive general manager. “In a genre where so many games look and feel the same, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will make people double-take. We think it’s going to make quite an impression.”

The game also boast brand new multiplayer modes Undercover Cop, Cops & Robbers and Arcade, as well as the return of Fragile Alliance. With the game’s release set for late August, Kane & Lynch second release might just avoid the dog days of summer.
