No more pit stops! Gran Turismo 5 has a release date

Delay after delay, racing fans have grown impatient waiting for Gran Turismo 5′s debut on the PlayStation 3. The wait is now over as Sony has announced that the game will release November 24 in North America. Developed by Polyphony Digital Inc., the driving simulator is the first in the series to feature 16 racers in online play, with World Rally Championship, Super GT and NASCAR licensing proudly featured.

President of the company Kazunori Yamauchi is amped for the game’s release, but takes a second to apologize to fans for the long wait:

Gran Turismo 5 is an ambitious project, with challenges and complexities which have made it our version of the Apollo Space Program! When we created the original Gran Turismo back in 1997, we wanted to set a completely new precedent for the racing genre. With the technological leap onto PlayStation 3, our objective with Gran Turismo 5 was to create another great revolution which would not only satisfy our own high expectations, but would meet or even exceed the anticipation of the fans. Satisfying the loyal Gran Turismo followers is at the heart of all of our efforts, which is why it was such a difficult decision to delay the release of the game, and one which we did not take lightly. I can only apologize to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed.

Conduit 2 gunning for February release, plus new trailer

Sega’s Conduit 2 was all set to release next month until Activision’s pesky GoldenEye 007 planned to release on the same day. Thankfully, the publisher decided to push back the High Voltage Software developed much anticipated high-action sequel to 2011.

And according to the latest trailer, the game will release in February. This is great news for all parties involved. Wii first-person-shooter fans get Bond this holiday, and Conduit 2 to kick off the new year, both titles looking absolutely stellar. I implore all FPS fans to please check out the game. If my impressions at E3 are any indication, this game will offer an incredibly rewarding multiplayer experience.

Sonic 4: Episode 1 priced, arriving this October

After months of hype, excitement and delays, the blue blur is finally ready to return to consoles with the launch of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. The first in a series of new episodic Sonic adventures is set to release on October 11th for WiiWare, October 12th for PSN and October 13th for XBLA. Alternatively, iPhone and iPod Touch users can get their glove-covered mits on the game October 7th.

So how about the pricing? Sega has revealed a 1500 Wii Points price point for WiiWare, 1200 Microsoft Points for XBLA and $14.99 for PSN. Seems pretty fair for an experience fans have been dying for.

The game’s launch also comes bundled with the ability to silence Sonic haters who have been begging for a new 2D Sonic title. You got your wish, now be happy.

Sam & Max’s devilish finale debuts next week

The much anticipated season finale in Sam & Max’s latest episodic adventure is coming to a close. So when exactly are you going to be able to play “The City That Dares Not Sleep,” the fifth and final part of The Devil’s Playhouse series?

On August 30th of course, for PC and Mac gamers at least. PS3 owners can check out the final episode on August 31st.

And if you’re behind, right now Telltale is offering discounts on the entire Devil’s Playhouse season, as well as all three seasons of the Sam & Max series. Now is the time people.

No More Heroes’ PS3 version gets Move support

Travis Touchdown may have excelled through the ranks of killers in his first two Wii installments, but Konami is set on bringing the No More Heroes adventures to Sony’s HD console. When the original No More Heroes ships on the PS3 under the subtitle Heroes’ Paradise, it will boast a few competitive differences.

First, the game graphically will get an HD overhaul over the Wii version. The wacky art style and pixelated on-screen actions will surely benefit from high definition. But all that jazz was in Asia’s exclusive Xbox 360 and PS3 version. So what is Konami going to bring to the table for the PS3 stateside release? Well Move, of course!

The game will fully support Sony’s upcoming motion controller, the PS Move. So as of now, you have a Wii version with motion controls, an Asia-only Xbox and PS3 version in HD without motion controls, and a PS3 version with motion controls and HD. Sounds like we have a winner.

The game will ship in 2011.

Sonic Colors trailer, boxart, and release date revealed

SEGA’s biggest star is getting brighter, as details have finally emerged about the release date of the blue hedgehog’s latest adventure, Sonic Colors. Set for release November 16th, the Wii and DS versions are focusing on traditional Sonic gameplay action, with no werehogs or medieval swords in sight. Dr. Eggman is at it again, this time with an adventure set within his Interstellar Amusement Park.

With all this LeBron talk, let’s get down to what’s really important. EA Sports will be launching their version of the classic arcade basketball game NBA Jam exclusively on Wii this fall. But when you ask?

Metroid: Other M release date announced for Japan

Nintendo of Japan has announced the release date for the much anticipated Team Ninja developed game, Metroid: Other M. Samus Aran’s adventure will continue on September 2nd. If you’re keeping track, that’s two days after the U.S. release, which is scheduled for August 31st. Initially, the game was slated for a June 27th release in the U.S., until it was delayed for fine tuning.

In addition, the Japanese website for the game has been updated with a few new screens, background videos and new tunes from the game.

A release date for Europe still has not been announced.

Trauma Team operations start today on Wii

Atlus Games has announced that their latest surgery simulator Trauma Team has launched today in North America. Trauma Team is a departure from the previous Trauma Center titles, focusing more on the realistic medical side and less on the fictional over-the-top storylines. The concept takes inspiration from today’s most popular TV medical dramas, such as Grey’s Anatomy, despite being guilty of a few over-the-top storylines as well.

Following a cast of medical professionals, the game features six different gameplay types, ranging from high intensity surgery to forensic pathology. The game also supports a cooperative mode, so you won’t have to go it alone while on your medical journey.

“Trauma Team combines the best aspects of medical dramas and crime investigation TV shows with satisfying gameplay that anyone can pick up and play,” stated Aram Jabbari, Atlus’ Manager of PR and Sales. “Whether it’s the captivating narrative, the interesting cast of characters, the variety of gameplay modes, or the ability to play with a friend, Trauma Team delivers exactly what Wii owners and fans of medical dramas are looking for in a new game.”

Trauma Team is now available for $39.99 for the Nintendo Wii.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies arriving July

Today Nintendo has announced that the DS hit Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies will be released on July 11th in the U.S. The game originally released in Japan, which to date has sold 4.2 million copies.

The game follows your main character on a quest as the city guardian to retrieve fruit from the sacred tree. The fruit contains the special power to grant wishes. On your journey, you’ll have to fight different enemies and bosses across vast lands. There are a multitude of side quests for your player to take on, and a cast of friends you’ll meet along the way.

In Dragon Quest IX, players will create their own adventures, by customizing their in-game character’s appearance. Play around with the facial features, hair style or clothing options, as well as the unique armor and weapons at your disposal. You’ll also be able to share your adventure with others over a local wireless connection for a cooperative playing experience.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep releasing this September

The North American release date of Square Enix’s upcoming franchise prequel Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep has been announced. On September 7th, you’ll be able to dust off your PSPs when the adventure releases in both standard, and limited edition form.

The limited edition PSP bundle will include a Mystic Silver colored PSP-3000, a TBA movie, 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo and of course, the game. The standalone game will retail for $39.99, with the bundle looking at a $199.99 price point.

The voice cast for the game has also been announced, which features James Woods, Mark Hamill, Leonard Nimoy, Willa Holland and Jesse McCartney. With a cast like that, Birth By Sleep is starting to sound more like a feature film!

Ollie this May with the release of Skate 3

EA has officially given Skate 3 a release date. The title will launch May 11 in the US and May 14th in UK. The game will offer skaters a more customizable experience, allowing users to create their own skate teams. For novices, the game also features the new Skate.School, designed to help teach newbies how to execute tricks, flips, or how to gently go in a forward moving direction on a skateboard.

“Since the very beginning of the Skate franchise, we have captured the true essence [of] skateboarding, be it from the feel of nailing that perfect trick, to the feeling of just hanging out and sessioning with your friends,” said Jason DeLong, the game’s Senior Producer. “For us, Skate 3 is the culmination of this endeavor – the most connected, accessible and social skateboarding experience yet.”

The game’s roster includes some of the most notorious skateboarders including Rob Dyrdek, Jason Dill and Colin McKay. The role of coach Frank will be voiced by actor Jason Lee.

iPad official release date announced

Potentially the most revolutionary product of the year (or biggest dud) will launch next month. The iPad, which was officially revealed by Apple CEO Steve Jobs last month, will release on April 3rd. Preorders for the tablet device will officially begin next week, on March 12th.

“We’re excited for customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product and connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before,” Jobs said.

With both Wi-Fi and 3G versions available, the device plans to revolutionize the way we watch movies, play music, surf the web and play games. Although other tablet devices have been on the market, none have come bundled with the Apple secret weapon; the App Store. The App Store is easily the world’s largest database of music, movies and applications, all of which are iPad compatible. It’s going to be very interesting to see how gamers react to playing their games/apps on the iPad.

Alan Wake rises May 18th

There weren’t too many people who went to E3 last year, or watched the coverage, and weren’t enthralled by the dark, suspenseful thriller Alan Wake. Luckily, the wait for the game is near an end, as Microsoft has announced a May 18th release date for the 360 exclusive.

The story follows Alan, a writer, who heads to a remote cabin to gain some creative insight for his latest story with his wife. Unfortunately for Alan, his wife disappears, and instead of finding inspiration for a new story, it seems his real life is playing out just like one of his previous stories, a tale he doesn’t remember writing.

Alan Wake was developed as a psychological thriller, with each part of the game unfolding as part of one story. Remedy Entertainment, the developers behind the title, wanted Alan Wake to feel like a TV show, and got inspiration from a few successful thrillers like Twin Peaks and LOST. And with LOST ending the week after Alan Wake’s release date, what better way to cure our aching hearts.

Nintendo announces their lineup of early 2010 Wii/ DS titles

Nintendo has officially released their lineup of titles to be released early next year. Those hoping to see Super Mario Galaxy 2 are going to be a bit sad. However, confirmed for WiiWare in Q1 comes a title I’m pretty excited for, WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase. Also, Sonic Classic Collection is confirmed for DS for a Spring release. Some of the release dates on the list have been known before, but now you have a schedule of all the titles you care about, compiled in one place!
