Threat to R4 sales has them flying off of shelves

Published by Pete

Reported earlier this week, Nintendo (as well as many other developers) are taking a stand against DS piracy. Not surprisingly, gamers everywhere have been buying the little cartridge that could at record paces since the legal announcement. Stores all over Japan are sold out, with one retail worker adding:

The rush in demand has been amazing. These devices always sell well. But this weekend should be staggering, don’t you think?

Reminds me a little of Y2K.

Nintendo takes to the seas to battle piracy

…And by seas, I really mean “C”s which, of course, is referring to the courts. Nintendo, and a handful of other developers, have started fighting back against imported “R4 Revolution” for DS” cartridges that allow for easy uploading from the Internet. According to Nintendo the device is:

causing severe damage to our company and software makers, and this is something that we cannot possibly overlook.

It’s nice to see companies actively fighting back against products like this, unless you use one of course. A list of other companies joining Nintendo in the battle after the break.

The R4 finally pisses off the ELSPA

Published by Ryan

Considering the fact that you can use an R4 to play any kind of illegally downloaded ROM file, it’s a surprise that it took this long to get any attention. Another interesting bit of information is that these flash carts don’t really affect the “causual” market, but rather the “hardcore” market instead.

It is titles that appeal to traditional, hardcore gamers – those consumers who are also more tech-savvy – that are suffering a decline in sales.

While I disagree that these devices are the singular source for all the gaming problems in the world today, I can’t help but think about a 7 year old girl I seen on the subway with a Supercard Lite. I don’t suppose she is testing out her homebrew do you?
