As if a Suicune distribution for Europe wasn’t enough, GameStop locations across the United States began distributing the legendary Celebi today!

Up until now, Celebi hasn’t been available to most American Pokémon players, and has never been available nationwide — it was the only Pokémon with that distinction. From now through March 6th, head to your local GameStop to download this special Celebi, which will unlock a special scene when taken to the Ilex Shrine in Pokémon HeartGold and/or SoulSilver, and can be taken to Castelia City in Pokémon Black and White to obtain a Zorua.

Note that a “Gamestp Celebi” was initially scheduled to begin February 27th, but Nintendo has seemingly “recalled” those distribution cards and replaced them with this “WIN2011 Celebi,” the same one that is also being distributed on the Pokémon Black and White Tour, going on now.

Get a Mythical Pokémon Celebi Not Found in Normal Gameplay at GameStop Stores Nationwide

The Wi-Fi distribution continues today with the download of the “Aurora Pokémon,” a shiny Suicune. You can download Suicune to your copy of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and/or SoulSilver over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection through Sunday, February 27th.

Next month, you can transfer the entire shiny beast trio into Pokémon Black & White to unlock the ability to encounter the Illusion Fox Pokémon known as Zoroark.

With the fifth generation of Pokémon RPGs looming overhead, it’s time to prepare your existing collection of Pokémon for transfer into the new games. Europe’s (and Australia’s) distribution of the shiny beast trio (as featured in the new movie) continues today with the Wi-Fi distribution of the “Volcano Pokémon,” a shiny Entei. You can use your copies of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and/or SoulSilver to download the specially-colored Entei over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection through Sunday, February 20th.

The beast trio distribution concludes next week with shiny Suicune. Next month, you can transfer them all into Pokémon Black & White to unlock the ability to encounter the Illusion Fox Pokémon known as Zoroark.

GameStop to distribute Celebi in North America starting February 27

With the latest Pokémon movie, Zoroark: Masters of Illusions, coming in February and both Pokémon Black and White coming to North American DS owners in March, it looks like Nintendo is well into a massive marketing blitz for the start of the year. In addition to the trio of GameStop distributions coming in January and the Toys”R”Us event going into February, it seems we on this side of the pond will be getting at least one more event Pokémon within the next several weeks.

GameStop employees with access to the Raikou/Entei/Suicune distribution materials have discovered that those materials also contain the ability to distribute Celebi in the future, specifically starting on February 27th and running through March 7th. All five Generation IV games (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver) are able to obtain Celebi via the wireless Mystery Gift option. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Celebi can be brought to Ilex Forest to travel through time an unlock a bit of story. In addition, this same Celebi can be sent into Black and White via the Transfer Machine and taken to Castelia City in order to obtain a Zorua.

This event has yet to be officially announced. Event collectors may note that aside from a limited distribution at a New York City event several years ago, this is the first time that Celebi will legitimately be obtainable in North America.

Toys”R”Us to distribute Pikachu event Pokémon at end of January

In addition to GameStop’s January distribution of the shiny beast trio for Pokémon gamers, Toys”R”Us is getting in on the action with a little event of their own.

According to the Toys”R”Us website, the “Ash’s Pikachu” distribution will occur at TRU stores in the United States beginning on January 30th and running through February 5th of 2011. All five main Pokémon games for the DS thus far (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver) will be able to download Pikachu. All you need to do is come into one of the stores, go to “Mystery Gift” in your game, and receive the gift via wireless connection.

The Pikachu being given out is based heavily on the Pikachu partnered with Ash on the Pokémon anime series on Cartoon Network.

GameStop distributing shiny beast trio starting January 3rd

Just a heads-up for you Pokémon fans out there: GameStop stores in the United States and Canada will finally be distributing the shiny legendary beast trio this January, in celebration of the North American release of the latest Pokémon movie, Zoroark: Masters of Illusions, in February.

From January 3rd through January 9th, a Raikou knowing the move Weather Ball will be available to owners of Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and/or SoulSilver who bring their games and Nintendo DS systems into their local GameStops stores and download the lightning tiger via the “Mystery Gift” function. Entei with the move Flare Blitz will be given out from January 17th through the 23rd. Finally, Suicune with the move Sheer Cold will be distributed from January 31st through February 6th.

Each of the beasts are “shiny” in that their game sprites are a different color than normal, and they’ll sparkle when coming out of their Pokéballs. In addition, each will be held in a Cherish Ball, have a Classic Ribbon attached, and know the move “Extremespeed.” Trading these beasts into Pokémon Black and/or Pokémon White starting March 6th is a requirement to catch Zoroark in the new games.

U.S. bests Japan at the Pokemon World Championships 2010

The final stop in a lengthy national Pokemon tournament took place in Hawaii this past weekend, as over 375 players participated in the Pokemon World Championships for 2010. Players young and old brought their best in an attempt to become the ruler of the pocket monster universe, through both the Pokemon card game as well as the popular DS handheld titles Heart Gold and Soul Silver Versions.

The international event greeted contestants from over 25 countries between two days of battle. The final battle for the video game Senior Division took place between New Jersey’s own Ray Rizzo against Japan’s Yasuki Tochigi. U.S. fans cheered as Rizzo took top prize, but other Japanese competitors came out on top in other age brackets, including Shota Yamamoto in the Junior Division, and Yuka Furusawa from the trading card Junior Division. All championship winners took home impressive prize packs consisting of Pokemon merchandise, vacations, trophies, and over $100 grand in scholarships. Bet their parents aren’t complaining about them spending too much time playing video games anymore. Each winner will also be automatically enrolled in next year’s world championships, set to be held in San Diego.

Nintendo announces new “enigmatic” Pokemon download event

With all the fanfare surrounding Pokémon Black and White, I almost forgot HeartGold and SoulSilver existed! Luckily, Nintendo didn’t. They’ve just announced a new download event, going on now until August 27. Players can obtain the Enigma Stone, used to hunt and capture the elusive Legendary Pokémon Latias or Latios. In exchange for the Enigma Stone, they’ll also receive the Soul Dew, essential to powering up the Special Attack and Special Defense of the Latias or Latios. Sign in to your wireless Internet connection to start the adventure.

Pokémon and Nintendo Offer Limited Wi-Fi Distribution For Chance to Catch Elusive Pokémon

July 28, 2010 -Pokémon^TMTrainers get ready to unlock the secrets of the Enigma Stone as The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo of America Inc. introduce a limited distribution via the Nintendo^® Wi-Fi Connection service. Beginning this Saturday, July 31, through Friday, August 27, players of Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilverVersions who have wireless broadband Internet access can receive the Enigma Stone for a chance to catch the amazing, yet elusive, Legendary Pokémon Latias^TM or Latios^TM.

Similar to the other half of the Legendary pair that can be caught normally during gameplay, the Pokémon encountered with the Enigma Stone will be at Level 40. In exchange for the Enigma Stone, Pokémon fans will also get the Soul Dew, a held item that powers up the Special Attack and Special Defense of Latios and Latias. Only Pokémon players who have beaten the Elite Four, claimed the National Pokédex, and have two or fewer Wonder Cards can solve the riddle of the Enigma Stone to capture Latios for Pokémon HeartGold Version or Latias for Pokémon SoulSilver Version.

Last chance to battle as Pokemon National Championships begin next week

For months, thousands of players from around the country have taken part in various Regional Pokemon Championship events, established to determine the best and brightest Pokemon trainers.

Championships held throughout towns from New York to Seattle, divided players into Junior and Senior groups. The tournaments made use of the latest title in the series, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, to determine 192 champi0ns. If you’re not one of them however, there’s still hope to be entered into the National Championship.

The Pokemon Company International will hold one last qualifier event, on the morning of Friday, June 25, at the Indiana Convention Center. 16 players will make it into the National Championships, which will be held at the Convention Center from the 25th through the 27th.

The final 32 champions determined between the Indianapolis event, as well as European and Japanese tournaments, will travel to the 2010 Pokemon World Championships, taking place between August 14th through 15th in the tropical Kona, Hawaii. So basically, even if you don’t win the World Championships,… you’re in Hawaii. Sounds like a win/win situation to me.

Pokemon Tournament in Texas turns up 2,000 attendees

In Dallas, Texas over the Memorial Day weekend, competitors came prepared for battle during the Pokemon Video Game Regional Championships. The event had players of all different ages competing for Pokemon trainer supremacy, with the Nintendo DS titles HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions. This event saw 293 competitors for the Junior division, while 652 players enrolled for the Senior division.

Over 2,000 supporters came and watched the event, held at the Arlington Convention Center. The winner of the Austin event for the Junior division was Cedric Bernier, an 11-year-old, followed by 2nd place’s Dawson Testerman, a 9-year-old. Winner of the Senior division was Jonathon Giles, 21, with 19-year-old Perry Pickett in second.

The championships continue with the Southeast tournament, set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia on June 5th. Look below at our gallery to see pictures from the event, including photos of some of the winners.

Pokémon Regional Championship brings in 800 Poke-fans

Earlier today, the Pokémon Regional Video Game Championships were held in Seattle. The event hosted nearly 800 competitive kids, all battling for Pokémon trainer supremacy.

Last year’s winner, 8-year-old Cade Rowan, was on hand to compete. Unfortunately, he lost when his opponent beat his Smeargle. Cade blames the loss on his decision to use the “Follow Me” move instead of a “Fake Out.”

Instead, the winner of this year’s championships was 7-year-old Christopher Kopkas. A love for Pokémon runs in the family, as Christopher’s mother Teresa signed up to compete in the senior division.

Other contenders this year included 7-year-old Max Whitney (pictured above), who made it to the semi-finals, as well as 11-year-old Kevin Nguyen, who came in second place.

The event served as the regional championship, with the national Pokémon championship set this June in Indianapolis.

“Winner’s Path Route” coming to Pokewalker tomorrow

The Pokemon Company and Nintendo have announced that the new “Winner’s Path Route” will be available for the Pokewalker tomorrow. Those who own Pokemon HeartGold or Pokemon SoulSilver Versions can unlock the new route to their Pokewalker devices. Winner’s Path Route will give players the opportunity to discover new Pokemon, as well as new items such as the Focus Sash and Choice Band. You may even discover a Munchlax, Beldum or Bronzor.

The route, accessible through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, will be available from tomorrow until June 25th. The current Pokewalker event titled the Yellow Forest, will only be available through today. So get it while you can!

Also important to note for Poke-fans, The Pokemon Video Game Championship will be held in Seattle, Washington on May 8th. Items unlocked using your Pokewalker will be accessible during battle, giving you an edge over the rest. For more information about the tournament, and the new route, check out the sites below.

Pokemon and Final Fantasy top NPD Report for March

The NPD report for March 2010 has been released, and it was a good month all-around. The industry saw growth in all areas except for hardware sales, but the NPD’s Anita Frazier explained that unit sales for hardware were up over March of last year, it’s merely the lower retail prices that caused the total dollar sales to drop. As expected, the DS and Wii dominated the month, selling over 700K and 550K, respectively, but the 360 and PS3 managed to sell a respectable 300+K each.

On the software side, 2 SKUs each of Pokemon, Final Fantasy XIII, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 made the top 10, leaving only 4 other slots open. Combined, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver topped the charts with nearly 1.8 million copies sold between them. Final Fantasy XIII‘s combined PS3 and 360 sales come in second with 1.32 million copies sold, while Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for PS3 and 360 combined for nearly 1.28 million copies sold.
