It’ll kind of look like this…but 3D!

PilotWings had been rumored for Wii ever since the initial Wii Sports software demo showed a familiar looking flight simulator, which later got moved to Wii Sports Resort. Well, a Wii version of the beloved franchise isn’t happening.

Nintendo did announce via a press release today that a new PilotWings game is coming to the recently unveiled Nintendo 3DS handheld. Score!

The game was just one of many classic franchises Nintendo revived during this year’s E3 2010 event.

Here are this week’s offerings on Nintendo’s various download channels in Japan! Also of note, Japan is getting Bonsai Barber for WiiWare for less than the cost of the game in North America and Europe, which might be because the game came out in those regions a long time ago.

Before you break out the champagne and watch New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Nintendo wants to end 2009 on a high note. They are releasing 10 top notch titles for release on WiiWare, Virtual Console and DSiWare. And to the excitement of many, PilotWings for SNES is finally getting the Virtual Console treatment. Although I preferred the PilotWings 64 hands down, the SNES version really paved the way for sky-sports simulators, although few have really come out since. This is the game that helped make Air Sports possible in Wii Sports Resort, while also keeping fans puzzled as to why a PilotWings Wii title hasn’t been announced. For now, let’s just be glad to see the original finally available for download.

For a complete list of titles and download information, continue reading below.

Why Nintendo waited so long to put these two games on Virtual Console, I’ll never know, but better late than never. The original Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario Kart are both headed to the Wii Shop Channel this upcoming Monday, November 23rd. Super Mario Kart will drift in at 800 points. The price for Super Smash Bros. has not been announced. SNES classic Pilotwings will also be available, price also not yet announced.

Oh, look – a new rumor. Supposedly, Pilotwings for the Wii is very much alive. In fact, it’s so alive that it’s headed for a release in the first half of 2009. On top of that, the game will reportedly have full Balance Board support for sports like parachuting, and that Miis are very much a part of the new cast.

Of course, we have no real solid info on the existence of a Pilotwings game whatsoever, so take this with a grain of salt. Even Factor 5, rumored to be working on either Pilotwings or Kid Icarus for the Wii, may have been wiped off the face of the earth.
