Another week, another weekly installation of downloadable Nintendo games! Today brings back SNES’ Chrono Trigger, now on Virtual Console for 800 Wii Points. For the fishing fans on DSi, Big John Games’ Big Bass Arcade delivers seven different lakes, nine lures, three multiple-lake tournaments, 42 events, event high scores and “the elusive world-record bass”. OK Nintendo. We get it. The theme of this Pokémon gen is black and white! Nonetheless, these special edition DSis about to hit the Japanese market are to die for. Featuring Reshiram and Zekrom etched on either a black or white DSi, these will go on sale for 19,800 yen, slightly above the standard 15,000, starting November 20.

The tail-end of the weekend’s rocky weather finally caught up with the new season here on the east coast, as fall officially set in. The leaves are falling off the heavily wooded neighborhoods in the suburbs here in Maryland, which to me always signifies the beginning of an intense video game season that lasts well into the new year. With Kirby and Donkey Kong titles, and the new Nintendo 3DS handheld all coming within the next few months, you can’t blame the Big N for slacking on their downloadable offerings.

This week a mere four titles are released for WiiWare and DSiWare, two for each.

The beloved WiiWare title Cave Story is looking to go portable in the coming months, with a release on Nintendo’s DSiWare service.

The latest issue of Nintendo Power outed the game announcement, listing the DS version in the nicely indexed upcoming game’s section. The game was originally released back in 2004 as a PC title, but a cleaned up version was released on Wii earlier this year, featuring updated character designs.

We’ll have more info as soon as we get confirmation from the game’s devs.

Update: The game has been confirmed by developer Nicalis via an email to GoNintendo. Brilliant!

For those of you who were waiting for the inevitable NA price drop on the Nintendo DS and DSi, your moment has finally arrived. Nintendo has officially announced the new prices on their popular hand helds, with the DSi going down to $149.99. The jumbo DSi, the DSi XL, will drop to $169.99, and the DS Lite will remain at $129.99. All prices are effective starting September 12.

Does this news, following price drops around the world in Australia, Europe, and Japan, lend credence to rumors that the 3DS will be available this holiday season? My gut tells me “Don’t get too excited” but my heart tells me “Screw that gut guy! 3DS will be here this winter”. Only time will tell.

Latest Versions of Best-Selling Portable Video Game System in History to be Priced at $149.99 and $169.99

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 30, 2010 – Nintendo is dropping the suggested retail price of its Nintendo DSi™ and Nintendo DSi XL™ video game systems. Effective Sept. 12, the new suggested retail price of the Nintendo DSi system will be $149.99, while the new suggested retail price for the Nintendo DSi XL system will be $169.99. The Nintendo DS™ Lite model will remain at a suggested retail price of $129.99. The Nintendo DS family of video game systems is the best-selling in the history of the U.S. and worldwide. The new prices offer consumers tremendous value for their money while providing access to the best portable video game experiences possible.

“We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Our new Nintendo DSi prices make it easier than ever for consumers to access the tremendous variety of games, applications and social tools on the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems.”

The Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems offer consumers access to more than 1,300 packaged games and more than 200 downloadable games. Both systems feature two built-in cameras and photo- and sound-manipulation software that provide for a more social experience. Users can wirelessly upload photos to Facebook with the touch of a button (wireless broadband Internet access required). The Nintendo DSi XL system, which features a screen that is 93 percent larger than that of the Nintendo DS Lite, comes pre-loaded with software like Brain Age™ Express: Math, Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Flipnote Studio™, Photo Clock and the Nintendo DSi Browser.

Once again, this past Sunday brought exciting news for Pokémon fans, perhaps the most exciting tidbit to emerge about Black and White yet. This past weekend’s episode of Pokémon Sunday officially unvealed Victini, a Legendary/Phantom Pokémon who will take up the #000 slot on the Pokédex. Japanese fans will be able to download Victini via a wireless event starting the day of the launch, September 18, til October 18, 2010.

Pokémon Black and White debuts in the NA and EU regions sometime in spring 2011.

It seems there’s no end to the brand new features being incorporated in the latest generation of Pokemon games! A promotional pamphlet for Pokemon Black and White, scanned by Serebii.net, reveals a few more surprises and franchise-firsts. Players of Pokemon Black and White on the DSi or 3DS, for example, will have access to a new feature called Live Caster. After unlocking Live Caster through the game’s campaign, users will be able to sync up over Wi-Fi for one on one video chat. Up to four players will be able to use video chat over local wireless connection. Additionally, an overworld hub known as High Link will allow players to approach each other and assist in missions.

Pokemon Black and White will also feature the increasingly popular pass-by system, which syncs up passing Nintendo handhelds to unlock bonuses on their owner’s games, though what these bonuses will be is not yet known. One final revelation, important to those looking forward to three on three battles: the order of your Pokemon during battles will affect your damage calculations.

The Pass-By bonuses sound appealing, but I’m not sure how I feel about video chat, which just seems unnecessary. What do you think of these new revelations?

If Nintendo can stay the course, and there’s little doubt they can’t, their DS handheld will become the best selling console of all time by the end of the year. According to NPD analysis Anita Frazier, by “October or November” the DS will have surpassed the current record holder, Sony’s PlayStation 2.

Already selling close to 130 million units, the DS is likely going into a territory few consoles will ever compete with. Of course to its advantage over the PS2, the DS has seen many different models with slight improvements. With the differences between the DS Phat to the DSi, it’s almost like two different handhelds. I’m sure many people upgraded from one to the other, including myself, boosting the overall console sales.

Still, a DS is a DS. Congratulations to the Nintendo DS. That’s quite an accomplishment!

Today’s gaming deal of the day has been found on Amazon.com. Earlier this week, Nintendo revealed a new white DSi bundle that includes Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story for the regularly console’s regular price. Likely due to this, Amazon has lowered the price of the standard white DSi, now on sale for $129.99.

Not so bad when the regularly price handheld is $169.99. This will make the choice of getting DSi or DSi XL a lot easier if money is your decision maker.

Nintendo of Australia has announced a price drop on the Nintendo DSi, from AU$299.95, to AU$249.95. This discount comes shortly before the DSi is joined on Australian shelves by the DSi XL, which debuts April 15 and will assume the AU$299.95 price. No other regional Nintendo companies have offered a price drop on the DSi, but given the sky high prices in Australia, it’s probably the least they could do!

Those who haven’t picked up a DSi XL, and scoff at the idea of a 3D DS handheld, may have a great new option. Nintendo has announced that a new spring DSi bundle is set to release on April 25th. The sleek white DSi will arrive here in the U.S., with copies of Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story packed in.

The bundle won’t cost you any more than a standalone DSi, at just $169.99. Unfortunately, Nintendo is only releasing limited quantities for this handheld/game combo, so make sure to get in on the action while you can.

According to their story, Nintendo is bringing a “Virtual Handheld” service to DSiWare, in which games such as Link’s Awakening, Pokemon Red and Blue, and would be among the first available. Similar to the third party consoles offered on the Wii Virtual Console, Sega Game Gear games and Atari Lynx games would also be joining the shop channel.

Nintendo Life even brings up the possibility of not a Hanabi Festival, but a Hanabi-style festival to bring “import” games to the service, much like Sin & Punishment and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels were brought to the Wii VC. I’m so wishing this wasn’t an April Fools joke… I want to play some Fire Emblem 6…
