You haven’t had enough Mario talk this holiday season, have you? The plumber has been celebrating the 25th anniversary of his first platforming adventure, and Nintendo has done quite a lot to celebrate. To continue the trend of celebration, Nintendo has posted a new video, on the Nintendo Channel, of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto talking all things Super Mario Bros.

During the interview, he reveals that the game was actually released in September, on the dreaded Friday the 13th. Although this alarmed Miyamoto during the game’s release, it clearly had no negative impact on first exposing the world to the most successful video game franchise of all time. He also remembered during the testing stage that game testers wouldn’t want to leave after their shifts were over, staying to continue playing the game. He knew they were onto something big.

The Official Nintendo Magazine is entering a new medium today with the release of the new Wii show Nintendo TV. Accessible through the Wii’s Nintendo Channel, Nintendo TV will give Wii owners an inside look at game previews, and news for Wii, DS (and soon 3DS) titles. It’s basically what Nintendo Week is here in the U.S., except a n Official Nintendo Magazine production.

The first episode features a new six minute preview of Super Mario Galaxy 2, which doesn’t launch in Europe for another week.

The new show is available starting today across all of Europe.

Exclamation points!!! You pixelphiles out there (*raises hand*) will be happy with the “Nintendo Week” video from this week. Excitebike is coming to the Wii in the form of WiiWare, and its coming with an upgrade. The 20-year-old classic, dubbed Excitebike World Rally, will be updated to propel the 2D-8 bit graphics into the 3rd dimension. It will also have a tracker editor, online multiplayer, and utilize the Wii Remote motion controls. Available November 9.

Japans version of the Nintendo Channel got an update today. The most obvious new feature is the sleek new interface, but there are other changes as well. Nintendo specifically mentions five of them:

• A new user vote-centric ranking system
• Ability to make recommendations for DS games
• Ability to switch between high and low quality videos
• Ability to save game information to a favorites list
• Viewable play records of games you’ve played or recommended

There’s no word on a possible update for other regions’ Nintendo Channels, but it could happen. Let’s hope, because the introductory video on Nintendo’s Japanese website makes it look pretty cool.

Nintendo has released a new update for the Nintendo Channel. What does it do? Well, Nintendo says that it “provides a behind-the-scenes enhancement to the Nintendo Channel.” Whatever that means.

I’d love to be able to test it out and let you faithful readers know if there are any obvious changes, but I’m having some trouble connecting to the Wii Shop to download it for myself. This may have something to do with a large number of people trying to download the update. It might be a good idea to just wait a little while before attempting to update your own Nintendo Channels.

A new trailer for Fire Emblem: New Shadow Dragons and the Blade of Light has popped up on the Nintendo Channel in Japan. You can view it above, and watch as it talks about the changes to class advantages introduced in later Fire Emblem games but new to this remake of the original, Wi-Fi modes, etc… I think. I don’t know, I can’t understand Japanese.

There’s also a crazy cool commercial at the end, depicting Fire Emblem as an actual, chess-like board game. If Fire Emblem could actually work as a board game, I’d totally be all over it.
