As Tanooki’s self-proclaimed biggest Mega Man fan (I’m actually wearing my I Beat The 8 Robots T as I type this) it is my responsibility, nay, my duty, to post this recreation of Mega Man 9‘s Concrete Man stage, done entirely in Legos. While the original artist, Marco Bessa of Brazil, has never played Mega Man, its the type of series that is recognized for the god that it is nonetheless. Well done, Marco! Now go download Mega Man 9 for Wii!

Mega Man music has been a constant source of inspiration for video game remixers. Taking a look at the sheer number of Mega Man remixes on OCRemix is proof enough of that. It was only a matter of time before someone decided to rock out with Mega Man 9. One YouTube user has taken it upon himself to create a medly that covers pretty much all of the Mega Man 9 soundtrack, and covers it well.

Keep in mind that this video does contain spoilers. Of course, it’s a Mega Man game so it’s not like the story has any surprising twists, but hey, there are people out there who actually care.

Mega Man fans have turned Mega Man 9 inside-out since the game was released, but apparently there’s at least one secret left that hasn’t yet been discovered, according to Capcom Senior Community Manager Seth Killian:

There’s only one undiscovered Mega Man 9 secret that I know about, and this ain’t it. [...] I’m not revealing it here just yet.  And go nuts–I don’t predict anyone will discover this one for quite a while yet…

Protip: It’s not a secret weapon.

So what could it be? Your guess is as good as mine. Well, someone figure it out. For some of us, this kind of curiosity is the kind that gets right into our brains, and then it just lays there and burns.

Capcom has released three more pieces of downloadable content for Mega Man 9. They are two new difficulty levels called Hero and Super Hero modes, and an extra stage for Time Attack mode.

The two new difficulty levels change enemy distribution and spawning points. You know, just in case you still have some hair on your head you haven’t ripped out while playing the game on the standard difficulty level.

The extra Time Attack stage has a difficulty level that rivals that of Dr. Wily’s Castle. It features bosses from other stages and a brand new boss; Fake Man.

All three pieces of DLC are available now via the DLC menu in-game for 100 points each.

It’s a WiiWare week in Europe, and that means more great games! …right?

Potpourrii and Midnight Bowling are the only new titles this week, both available for 800 points each. I’ve not played either yet (both are available here in North America), so hopefully some of our other readers can give their opinions.

In addition, more downloadable modes will be available for Mega Man 9 today, so be sure to check those out if you’ve already played through the Capcom platformer.

Proto Man became available as downloadable content in Mega Man 9 at noon today. He certainly doesn’t play a lot like his brother. There are a lot of things to consider if you haven’t decided whether you want to spend the points or not..

- Proto Man has a shield he deploys when jumping he can use to block small shots from enemies.
- We knew previously that Proto Man gets knocked back twice as far as Mega Man when he takes damage. What we didn’t know was that he also takes twice as much damage as Mega Man.
- Before Proto Man starts a level, his signature whistle plays.
- Proto Man has a slide menuver.
- Proto Man can charge his shots, though not as much as you might think. The picture above shows a fully charged shot from Proto Man. It seems to be weaker than fully charged shots from Mega Man, but it’s still not bad.
- Proto Man can only fire two shots at once, as opposed to Mega Man’s three shots.
- Proto Man does not have access to Dr. Light’s Lab. That means he has no access to the shop, so don’t expect to be stocking up on energy tanks to make up for taking double damage. Because of this, there are no screws. Maybe enemies drop energy or weapon energy when they would be dropping screws. I did notice I was getting more energy than usual when I was playing as Proto Man earlier.
- Proto Man starts off with the Proto Coil and Proto Jet. (Rush is Mega Man’s pet, after all.)
- Proto Man can’t be used in any of the special modes. He only works in his own Proto Man mode, which is exactly like the standard story mode with the changes listed above.
- Proto Man is totally badass.

Proto Man is available for 200 Wii Points. Also available today is Endless Attack Mode for 300 points. Endless Attack Mode is a level that doesn’t end, for players to test how far they can make it.

Mega Man 9 launched in Europe yesterday (and yesterday/two days ago in Australia, depending on when you read this), along with the second episode of Strong Bad. Joining it is a little title known as Helix. For those of you in North America that didn’t bother to download it either, it’s a music and rhythm game that gives your arms a bit of a workout. Nothing like a bit of techno/Europop to start your day, right?

Of course not. You’re all probably well into a fight with Hornet Man by now.

Gamers now have two options to tackle the latest Mega Man title. Playing through as the blue bomber himself, or for an extra two dollars take Proto Man for a spin. It’s much more than just a palette swap too, as he comes armed with a charge shot, slide, and shield to deflect some shots.

Remember the days when downloadable content for the Wii didn’t exist? Those days are long gone, leaving the door wide open for developers to exclude finished materials and extras and charge you for them later. Maybe it’s a twisted view on the industry, but I always imagine DLC as being developed after the main game is completed. If I didn’t have an unhealthy love a good slide technique I might be able to hold off, but it’s just too much fun!

Sorry Vectorman, but it’s all about the Blue Bomber this week. Between the 8-bit style graphics, the return of the “man” bosses, and the overly frustrating, but oh so satisfying stages, I can’t recall the last time I was so willing to depart with 1000 Wii points.

Unfortunately, PSN customers will have to wait until Thursday, while XBLA subscribers are stuck waiting until the 1st of October for their Mega Man fix.

Oh, and PLÄTTCHEN twist ‘n’ paint also comes out today! As always, a full description of both WiiWare releases are after the break.

I got a lot of nice emails today. One in particular seemed to announce and early Christmas for some people, and one that couldn’t come soon enough for others: Capcom has confirmed that Mega Man 9 will be available for WiiWare in North America this Monday, September 22. PSN gamers will be able to play the game this Thursday, and XBLA subscribers will be able to purchase the game on the 1st.

Of course, Capcom decided to continue teasing all of us with an additional 35 screenshots and 10 pieces of character art showing off the game’s bosses. ALL of the artwork sent to me has been uploaded to the game’s gallery after the break. Enjoy!

Let’s just get this out of the way. No, the cartridge isn’t playable on that mint condition NES that you have been babying for years now. It’s just an awesome case for the promotional media on the included disk. 

That being said, it shouldn’t stop anyone flow blowing into the bottom of the cartridge each time they open it. Capcom is going all out to promote this game like it’s 1987. I wonder if they do the Locomotion as they move around the office. Who ever was responsible for the price tag should immediately get a raise. That, is genius.

Although it has been said that the newest, which in a retro way is actually older than many other titles, Mega Man game would be available in September, no actual date had been revealed. Until now that is, as Mega Man 9 launches on September 24th in Japan. Still no word on any other territories, but North America should be right around the corner.

The casings may not be as authentic as those limited edition Final Fantasy potions you see in the fancy bottles, but that doesn’t take away the awesome-factor here. Mega Man 9‘s promotional campaign just got an energy boost from these new energy drinks! The Rockman E-Tank Sports Drink will be on sale in Japan all this month for ¥137 in all major convenience stores.

That’s roughly $1.25 in the US… so it’s about the same as your typical vending machine bottle, and far less than anything at Six Flags. Someone import a case and send it to Matt for his special day today.

Much of the appeal of the Mega Man series comes from the various bosses, and being able to take their power. None of the main monsters in the upcoming Mega Man 9 have hit the public eye, until now.

Capcom has lifted the sheet on three of the baddies the blue bomber will have to take on: Concrete Man, Tornado Man, and Magma Man. Full descriptions, screens, and art after the break.

Concrete Man

Concrete Man:
Created to construct a dam, Concrete man can actually design a dam and supervise its entire construction. He has stubborn a stubborn personality and will tell off any lazy robots.

Weapon: Concrete Shot
Concrete shot creates a temporary foothold as soon as it touches the ground. It can also be used to stop enemies in their tracks.

Tornado Man

Tornado Man:
Works for the Weather Manipulation Office to help control and stop the formation of large storms all over the world.

Weapon: Tornado Blow
Tornado Blow launches a huge tornado that covers the entire game area. Heavy enemies will take damage, but lighter ones will be blown entirely off-screen.

Magma Man

Magma Man:
Magma Man serves as the safety control robot at a large geothermal power plant. He is able to work in incredibly hot environments and loves to visit hot spas.

Weapon: Magma Bazooka
Magma Bazooka shoots a cluster of fireballs that spread out after launching. It can also be charged by holding down the shot button.
