Majesco announces Cooking Mama 4 and Camping Mama

Two things I did not see coming: Cooking Mama 4, and a new Mama IP. Okay, three, because I would have never guessed that camping would be Mama’s next hobby! All the same, Majesco has just announced Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic, bringing new recipes and mini games to the much beloved line, and Camping Mama: Outdoor Adventures, which will have 100 stylus based games spanning a variety of camping activities from fishing to spelunking and bug collecting.

Cooking Mama 4 will be the first Mama title coming to the 3DS and is expected sometime this fall. Camping Mama, unfortunately only coming to the DS, will also release this fall.

Did Majesco just out the Project Cafe release window?

Will we be seeing Project Cafe on retails shelves within a year? A press release I got from Majesco this morning regarding Zumba Fitness 2 read in part:

“Zumba® Fitness 2 will launch on Wii this holiday season and another-to-be announced platform in early 2012.”

Rumors surrounding the Wii successor have placed the release date in April 2012, something this slip seems to confirm. While it seems a bit early, at least to me, I’m thinking that’s ’cause I’m so tired of waiting for Skyward Sword. Seems a shame that such a sure hit will end up near the end of the Wii’s cycle.

Majesco forgoes Mama franchise for Pet Zombies in 3D

So this is where the state of zombie obsession in the video games industry has taken us. Majesco announced two 3DS titles today, one entitled Face Kart: Photo Finish is a customizable race game, and the other, a pet-zombie game hybrid wherein you feed and take care of your very own pet zombie. In Pet Zombies in 3D, you will take care of your decaying human pet by managing their body part based diet, their bodily maintenance, and activities, with locations from cemeteries to evacuated malls and rundown military bases.The 3DS’ accelerometer will also come into play, making an appearance for certain functions, like rolling a zombie’s head through a maze. Your zombie’s 3D environment will also be customizable with different objects, backgrounds, and music, with customizable zombies added to your horde as you find them in the game. Trophies and in-game currency will also be available for spending in the Zombie Pet Shop.

God I wish someone would have had this idea during the Tamagotchi era. On a side note, isn’t the lack of [Blank] Mama games interesting? You’d think they’d bank on that IP first if anything. Maybe they’ve just yet to make an announcement.

Developed by 1^st Playable Productions, Pet Zombies in 3D lets players raise their very own decaying human pets by managing their special dietary preferences (brains and the like), bodily maintenance (or lack thereof) and morbid activities needed to keep them happily undead. Players can choose to play with, care for, or even mischievously torment their zombies in creepy locations like cemeteries, evacuated malls or rundown military bases. Each 3D environment is customizable with mix-and-match objects, themed backdrops and even music to best fit each pet zombie’s personality and tastes. Throughout the game, players can discover new zombies to add to their horde and customize them with facial bone deformations, variable decay, clothing and unlockable items. Players will also use the Nintendo 3DS accelerometer controls in various activities, including rolling zombie heads through mazes, and can earn trophies and in-game currency to spend in the Zombie Pet Shop.

Developed by Renegade Kid, Face Kart: Photo Finish lets players tilt and turn the Nintendo 3DS to steer their photo customized speedsters through 20 unique race tracks, as they drift around corners, soar over chasms and speed past the competition. Players use the Nintendo 3DS camera to snap their own picture and then map it onto their avatar, the landscape or even a turbo boost so they can pick up their very own power-ups as they race. Majesco Entertainment announces Swords for Wii

As if to quench the thirst for MotionPlus supported games on behalf of Wii fans everywhere, Majesco has announced Swords. The game will pit the players against historically legendary foes such as Sir Lancelot as they travel through space and time and face a final epic foe to win the title of Greatest Swordsman of All Time. Players will learn the skills and combos they need in their quest in a special practice dojo, performing a series of drills that includes taking down a horde of zombies.

Expect Swords to slash its way onto your Wii sometime in September 2010. We’ll update you here when there are new screen shots, a logo, anything!

Majesco signs deal with Martha Stewart; Cooking Mama pissed

It appears Majesco is fine with having two leading ladies in the kitchen; one a former jail bird, and the other a bonnet wearing Muppet. Majesco has announced a video game deal with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia to develop… a video game. As of late, Majesco has best been known for releasing the Cooking Mama titles, and the upcoming Crafting Mama for Nintendo DS.

“Majesco Entertainment is well respected for bringing consumer-friendly titles to the mass market and has a proven track record of tapping the interests of family and non-traditional video game players,” said Stewart. “Women are increasingly engaged in social gaming. We feel confident that this new offering will delight loyal customers who are active in the space while introducing a new generation to the brand.”

While no specific title is mentioned, Stewart has been known to craft, cook and decorate. Cooking Mama has not returned our calls for comment.

Majesco announces Crafting Mama for Nintendo DS

A year after the Crafting Mama trademark was first discovered, we now have official confirmation of the title. Majesco has announced Crafting Mama, a series of 40 arts and crafts minigames, to be released in fall 2010. Mama will once again go through touch based sequences to master such projects as birdhouse making and quilting. You can also dress up Mama in some of your creations, like a new apron.

This title is the third in the Mama franchise, as “Cooking” and “Gardening” are also Mama past times. What will she do next? My vote is for “Afternoon Cocktail Mama”. Homegirl needs a break!

Lead designer of a boy and his blob reflects on title’s successes and failings

Sean Valesco, lead designer of a boy and his blob for the Wii, wrote up a four-page piece for GamaSutra discussing what went right and what went wrong with the project. The title was WayForward’s first boxed game for the Wii, which itself caused trouble – their tools and workflows weren’t set up to handle such a major undertaking, and poor coordination of outsourced teams caused delays. At the same time, trying not to think too big worked to their advantage – a small team kept bureaucratic nonsense out of the equation and forced individual team members to be strong. A small team also helped ensure a common vision of the end product. Interestingly enough, the decision to release the game as a boxed title rather than WiiWare was the biggest turnoff for me, as a consumer. For me, this changed the game from a release-date-buy to a whenever-I-get-around-to-it title. The whole article is worth a read, full of insight into the process of developing such a game, and seems potentially useful to anyone just getting started in video game development.

As a franchise selling more than 4.5 million units, Cooking Mama has taken the cooking video game genre to new heights. Cooking Mama 3: Shop & Chop follows Mama from begin to end of each cooking sensation. A Boy and His Blob released for consumption

Majesco Entertainment has announced the release of A Boy and His Blob for Wii. The hand drawn, stunning beautiful game is a reimagined version of the original title, which released 20 years ago.

After the inhabitants of Blobolonia are taken captive by an evil emperor, one blob manages to escape in search of help only to crash on Earth and find a young boy. Together the boy and his new blob friend work as a team to solve 40 levels of challenging side-scrolling adventure featuring hidden treasures, deadly monsters, perilous dangers and boss baddies.

The game follows the same format as the original, as you’ll be equipped with a slew of jellybeans that can transform your blob friend into useful items such as a Licorice Ladder, Apple Jack and Tangerine Trampoline. New jellybean items will include Cream Cannon and Bubble Gum Bubble.

The game ships today for just $39.99.

Majesco announces ‘Blob Month’ for A Boy and His Blob release

Since fans of the original A Boy and His Blob on the NES haven’t had a true console sequel, Majesco has announced the start of ‘Blob Month.’ ‘Blob Month’ will serve as a celebration and countdown to the release of the reimagined new iteration of the series, of the same name, set for Wii October 13th.

E3 2009: Cooking Mama 3 confirmed for Nintendo DS

After Majesco quietly dropped the news that Cooking Mama 3 was coming, 505 Games announced that they’d be the ones bringing it to Europe. On top of that, we have a confirmation that the new game will return the series to the Nintendo DS.

CM3 is supposed to have 80 recipes, 200 mini-games, four-player multiplayer, a new “What Dish Can You Make” mode, and a new “Let’s Go Shopping” mode. You can read up on everything after the break, but know that we’ll have all these new recipes before the end of the year. Maybe Mama can help with our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners!

Cooking Mama disses Science Papa

Don’t mess with Mama. The similarities between Majesco’s Cooking Mama and Activision’s Science Papa are obvious, and Mama is none too happy about Papa cramping her style. In fact, it seems that the two of them have a history. The plot thickens! According to Mama herself:

So you want some dirt on “Science Papa” to splash on your site? I’ll shovel it. We dated briefly (when he had much better hair). And now he clearly wants a piece of the best-selling pie by associating himself with an incredibly successful, and I’ll emphasize, happily married, woman. Frankly, he never appreciated my cooking and I grew weary of his tedious “experiments.” You want real mind-bending science, go figure out how to make Toulouse Cassoulet for your next dinner party of 20 and let me know how it goes, Papa.

Wow. Let’s hope there’s still more drama to unfold.

Any aspiring veterinarians out there? I’m sure you’re all jumping at the chance to poke a lion or rhino with sharp, pointy things. You’ll be able to do just that as soon as this August, when Majesco’s Zoo Hospital makes its way to the Wii.

How could you not want to practice medicine while taking care of animals? It’s like combining the best aspects of Trauma Center and… um… Petz.
