Valve has announced today that Steam, the online mega-platform for PC and Mac gaming, has opened the doors to allow users to pay using the paysafecard, as one of their accepted payment options. The paysafecard is a pre-paid form of payment that can be used within 25 European countries. To sweeten the deal, those that use their paysafecard by August 25th and spend 20 EUR or GBP will automatically get a free copy of Portal.

Steam offers a variety of other content, including over 1,200 games, consisting of  new release titles such as Singularity and Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days. Make sure you take advantage of the free Portal deal before it expires in just 5 short days.

This summer, Paramount Digital Entertainment is bringing their video game version of the classic Tom Cruise flick Top Gun to PlayStation Network, Mac and PC. Developed by doublesix, the game won the Spike TV Video Game Award for “Best Game Based on a Movie or TV Show.”

As Maverick, you’ll join Goose, Iceman and Viper in the Top Gun Academy in an attempt to become the best flier amongst the group.

Take part in an aerial adventure set throughout different levels with gorgeous sunsets and sunny skies set around the Indian Ocean. You can also take part in one of the game’s online multiplayer modes, such as Deathmatch, Top Gun, Bombing Run, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. The game’s multiplayer supports up to 16 players online.

Previously Top Gun was released on Apple’s iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone devices. Look out for Top Gun to release this summer.

It’s nice that people care about Mac gamers now. With the release of Steam for Mac, and now this great batch of PopCap games, I can finally get the full touchpad gaming experience. Normally I’d be terrified of leaving my mouse behind, but I’m dragging my MacBook to E3, and the thought of going without any games is scarier than the touchpad. Considering this Mac Pack includes Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled 2 and Bookworm, along with 11 others, my fellow writers may have to pry me out of the hotel room (You might want to pack a crowbar, guys).

Valve has announced, to the delight of many Mac enthusiasts, that several of their much loved titles are coming to the Mac platform via their Steam gaming service. Previously, titles Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal and Half-Life weren’t available for the Mac gamer. Luckily, all of those titles will be available this April.

As the company’s first PC and Mac simultaneous release, Valve plans to launch Portal 2 to both platforms.

Also of note, is a new feature being introduced called “Steam Play,” which allows those who purchase a game for either Windows or Mac, to play the game on the opposite platform for free.

What happens when I read the words “Galaga-Inspired” and “Free Demo” in a press release? I start downloading ActionSoft’s Insectoid as quickly as I can, punch my modem when it flakes out on me, and end up running through the entire demo instead of doing any work. The game truly is reminiscent of Galaga, with enemies typically entering the screen in formation before settling in, Space Invaders style. The demo gives seven full levels (including a boss fight), and 30 second previews of a handful of other levels. The levels are quite varied, either introducing new enemies (such as a centipede reminiscent of, well, Centipede) or new formation/attack strategies. Players have four ships to choose from, each with different speed, shooting speed, and special ability. The basic gun doesn’t rapid-fire, rather it charges up before releasing a burst of fire – this behavior changes with powerups which are plentiful if not all that exciting. The graphics are decent, with some aspects looking much nicer than others. All in all, the demo of Insectoid is certainly worth a download, and depending on how much you love a good Galaga-esque shooter, it’s likely worth shelling out $20 for the full deal as well.

GameMill Entertainment announced today the impending release (tomorrow, actually) of their new adventure game, Hidden Mysteries Titanic - Secrets of  the Fateful Voyage, for the Wii, DS, PC, and Mac platforms. Essentially, the game is an adventure set on the ill-fated boat which GameMill claims is recreated “with stunning accuracy.” Every area of the ship has an assortment of people to interact with and puzzles to solve, how the player handles these situations impacts which of several endings they are ultimately presented with. GameMill hasn’t said whether every ending leads to horrible tragedy, or if this is one of those revisionist history games, but either way it’s good to know that there might be some replay value here.

I personally hope this game does well so that someday we may see a Hidden Mysteries Hindenburg.

God surely didn’t create the world in seven, 24-hour days. It took a little bit longer than that. Will Wright? Sim God? Well, he managed to create Sim Everything in only eight years. I guess we have a winner.

Spore for Mac and PC along with Spore Creatures for Mobile and the Nintendo DS have officially gone gold. They have the masters, and your copies of the games are being made right now.
