Did the Skyward Sword theme you heard in the GDC 2010 trailer sound vaguely familiar? Like you heard it before but just couldn’t place it? A Nintendo fan with a fine ear has figured out the musical mystery, playing the tune “backwards” (actually known as retrograde, wherein the notes are flipped horizontally) to reveal…Zelda’s Lullaby! The greatness! It’s almost too much. Sadly this Hylian shield shredder, actually modeled after a ukele, is only for show. All the same I’d still like to hear Mikau-Link bust out New Wave Bossa Nova on that sweet puppy. Kudos to Deviantart user RocknRollCustoms for all his hard work.

Iwata: Skyward Swords in “final stages of development”, will arrive after Ocarina of Time 3DS

The same investors meeting that bore news of the next Kirby title coming to Wii also had a brief blip on Legend of Zelda: Skyward Swords, further narrowing down the famously elusive release date on this long overdue title. While news a mere few months ago stated that they were just over half way down, CEO Satoru Iwata now says they are in the final stages of development, and reconfirmed that we should expect the game this year. However, it will be after Ocarina of Time 3DS, said to be coming this summer. Not that we minded using the old school Zelda to tide us over til the new.

Alright, I’m just gonna say it. This version of the Song of Healing from Majora’s Mask might just be better than the original. ‘Specially because I don’t recall using a series of synchronized split screens to play it. Oh sure, MM had a cute little synchronized music bit to obtain the Circus Leader’s Mask, but nothing like this. I don’t recall getting to have wine at the end either.

Legend of Zelda Easter egg spotted in Fable III

Be it Blizzard or Lionhead Studios, it looks like no one can resist a good old school Nintendo reference. The video above will show you how to find the homage to Legend of Zelda yourself, or you can just live vicariously through Tim from Destroyed Controller as he walks you through finding this little gem (I mean rupee, of course) in a grave located in Fable III‘s not-at-all-provocatively-named Mourningwood. Commence with the diggin’!
