Following up our story on Valve’s unusual Dead DLC announcement, we now have a trailer for your enjoyment. The Sacrifice, a prequel to The Passing, follows the survivors as they head South and adds fresh content to both the original Left 4 Dead and its sequel Left 4 Dead 2. Latest Left 4 Dead DLC coming to both original and sequel

In this latest round of DLC, Valve is making sure no Dead game is Left behind. The downloadable chapter, entitled The Sacrifice, is a prequel to The Passing and is told through the Survivors’ perspective as they head South. The Left 4 Dead download will include the campaign, as well as playable maps in the Campaign, Versus, and Survivor modes. The Left 4 Dead 2 version will not only contain The Passing, but also Left 4 Dead‘s No Mercy campaign, both playable in Campaign, Versus, Survival, and Scavenge modes. Additionally, both will feature Left 4 Dead 2 Special Infected, items, and weapons.

As if this news couldn’t get better, the price for the DLC will be zero, zip, nada on PC, while 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live. The new adventure begins October 5.

September 27, 2010 – Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the new add-on for its co-operative zombie thrillers — “The Sacrifice,” in development for both Left 4 Dead (L4D) and Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) — is due for release on October 5, 2010.

“The Sacrifice” is the prequel to “The Passing,” and takes place from the L4D Survivors’ perspective as they make their way South. In addition to advancing the story, “The Sacrifice” introduces a new style finale featuring “Sacrificial Gameplay” where players get to decide who will give their life so the others may live.

The Sacrifice DLC for L4D1 is a seperate download than The Sacrifice for L4D2.

In The Sacrifice for Left 4 Dead 1 gamers receive the complete Sacrifice campaign with maps playable in Campaign, Versus, and Survival.

In The Sacrifice for Left 4 Dead 2 owners receive “The Sacrifice” campaign playable with the Left 4 Dead Survivors. In addition, those with Left 4 Dead 2 receive L4D’s “No Mercy” campaign. Both campaigns are playable in Campaign, Versus, Survival, and Scavenge modes and both will feature the Left 4 Dead 2 Special Infected, items, and weapons. Yes, Zoey with a chainsaw!

Targeted for release on October 5th, “The Sacrifice” will be available for download on Xbox Live for 560 Microsoft Points and free to all PC gamers.

Valve dates Steam for Mac

Expected for April but with dwindling window of time to deliver, Valve has released word of an official release date for Steam on Mac. It’s May 12th! Prepare to enjoy Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike, Portal and the Half Life series from the comfort of your touch pad, just a few weeks past due. Which in gaming circles we call that “Valve Time”.

Left 4 Dead 2 DLC “The Passing” arriving Thursday

Valve has revealed that the latest DLC for Left 4 Dead 2, titled “The Passing” will release this Thursday for both PC and Xbox 360. “The Passing” features the new cast of zombie killers, with a special cameo of the original cast of Left 4 Dead. Taking place between two maps, this DLC differs from previous offerings, with weekly new episodes called “Mutations.”

With over 20 in total, each Mutations will offers players different mode conditions, truly diversifying the gameplay. Announced thus far are the modes ‘Chainsaw Massacre’ and ‘Realism Versus.’

While free for PC users, the Xbox 360 DLC will cost 560 points ($7).

Amazon’s Deal Of The Day is a good one! You can pick up Left 4 Dead 2 for only $35 for XBOX 360 or $28 on PC. That’s a damn good price! I just bought L4D2 for my sister’s bday, and I was thrilled to find it for $40 at Best Buy. This $28 dollars stuff makes me look like a sucker! Head on over to Amazon to check it out. First Left 4 Dead 2 add on to feature original Left 4 Dead cast

Am I alone in thinking this is really cool? Now if only we could get a vs mode, survivor cast one vs survivor cast two. Or an 8 player co-operative mode, that would be awesome!

The first Left 4 Dead 2 add on, entitled The Passing, will feature Left 4 Dead cast and add a slew of content updates, including a new “uncommon common” infected type, two new weapons (one melee, one firearm), and an unspecified “new co-operative challenge mode of play.”, which will be available in Survival, Versus and Scavenge modes and an as yet announced new mode.

The price has not yet been announced, but look for the package to be available in early spring 2010 on XBOX 360 and PC.

Left 4 Dead 2 gets patched for PC, XBOX 360 to come later this month

Left 4 Dead 2 has had its fair share of glitches and blips but don’t worry folks. The PC patch is out. (Sorry, XBOX 360 users. You’ll have to wait “til later this month”). Valve just released the patch to fix some bugs and tweak a few mechanics here and there. A Steam forum post sums up the fixes thusly:

Changed rules for ghost placement in Scavenge Mode

Player controlled Special Infected are no longer forced to un-crouch and lock strafe when they crouch attack

Spitter spit that damages players on a moving elevator will now fizzle quickly

Allow the survivor and infected to rotate the camera yaw while being attacked by a Charger or Smoker

Smoker that has dragged a survivor to the end now gets the same cinematic flashlight as the Hunter and Charger

Fixed a crash in physics

Updated the Charger’s hit boxes

Updated the Jockey’s hit boxes

Updated the Spitter’s hit boxes

Fixed player health on being revived after a Charger slam over a high ledge

Fixed versus scores not resetting after a vote to change campaigns

Fixed being able to use defibrillator on dead players who were far above or below you

Fixed pink glow on dead survivors

Fixed being able to hold crouch while incapped to get better weapon accuracy

Fixed players pushing against some props causing them to accumulate downward velocity and then take falling damage when they let go of the forward key

Fixed a case where an incapped survivor inside a rescue vehicle would trigger both the escape sequence and a round restart

Fixed the helping hand from getting stuck when extended

Game companies going green with Eco-box

Did you buy a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Left 4 Dead 2 recently? OK, go, check the inside of your case. What you’re seeing is the latest in eco-friendly measures in the video game industry.

Now, I’m a fan of these measures myself. I hope we usher in an age where all games are downloaded from consoles or kiosks and there aren’t any unnecessary games printed. Smaller cases are a good idea too, I much prefer the PS3 cases to the Wii or XBOX 360 ones. Viva Group had a different idea: take out a few slats of plastic and voila, you have less total plastic used. Dubbed “Eco-box”, the case is already being used for DVDs and is finally making the transition to the video game industry.

But this eco-chic comes with a price–not only is there no price reduction to consumers to compensate for the cheaper materials and shipping, but some are complaining that the cases are too fragile. Anecdotal tales from faceless Gamestop employees are echoing on the web, mostly noting that their store’s Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 shipments arrived with damaged cases.

I called my local Gamestop in Bellevue, WA, and the manager there told me that so far they have “not seen any more or less copies of Left 4 Dead 2 or Modern Warfare 2 come in damaged than was to be expected”, and no customers have complained about the “flimsy” packaging. Are the complaints merely overblown flukes, or will we see more in the future? That remains yet to be seen, but for now, the Eco-box is reducing CO2 emissions one case at a time.

Left 4 Dead 2 sells 2 million in 2 weeks

I guess as far as Left 4 Dead is concerned, there’s no such thing as too much too soon! Some skeptics criticized Left 4 Dead 2 as being “too soon” after the release of the original to generate much interest or revenue, but damn they were wrong! In a mere two weeks Left 4 Dead 2, no doubt helped by their aggressive multimillion dollar ad campaign, has sold 2 million copies. And that doesn’t even include Steam sales!

“Left 4 Dead 2 is off to a great start with strong support at retail and great reviews from the press,” said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. “Meanwhile the title has already been played by over 1 million Xbox LIVE Gold account holders, and news regarding L4D2 DLC 1 is coming very soon.”

Ah, you hear that folks? DLC coming soon! How have y’all been enjoying Left 4 Dead 2? I’ve been bogged down buying/playing other games, but I plan to buy two PC copies of L4D2 this Christmas, so my sister and I can play together. ‘Cause nothing in our house says love, family, and Christmas tradition quite like the zombie apocalypse.

Left 4 Dead 2′s Midnight Riders to get own DLC?

Left 4 Dead 2 may have only been out for a hot minute so far, but already the DLC hints are surfacing on the web. A teaser page has appeared for the in-game band Midnight Riders. While there is no information provided, save for a single image and some back dated journal entries, some are speculating that the Midnight Riders will be getting their own DLC chapter…though if you ask this chica, it could very well simply be a viral campaign for the Left 4 Dead 2 soundtrack. Given the heavy emphasis on the fictional band’s album being “only available on tour”, its hard to tell. And call me a cynic but the last time we were promised L4D DLC, we got…L4D2. As with all video game ‘Net rumors, only time will tell.

Left 4 Dead 2 demo available for all XBOX Live gold members

To celebrate the end of baseball season, gaming retail giant GameStop has announced a fitting in-game weapon will be at your disposal. Introducing the zombie killing baseball bat. The bat will be an exclusive weapon offered only when you preorder Left 4 Dead 2.
