DSi doesn’t like currently existing flash carts

Published by Rhody
Tags: DSi, Flash carts, Homebrew

Unfortunate news for home brewers: currently existing DS Lite flash cards don’t work with the DSi. Cards that normally boot automatically fail to do so on the new handheld, while cards that normally boot manually will show up in the DS menu, but cause an error when they attempt to load.

No news yet on whether a work around will be possible, either with existing flash carts of future models. Only time will tell.

Wii Homebrew Channel works again

Published by Rhody
Tags: Firmware, Homebrew, Wii

What did I tell you? Wii hackers have already found their way around the recent Wii firmware update that blocks the installation of new homebrew apps. At least, it has been applied to the Wii Homebrew Channel. Other apps still can’t be installed with the latest update, but it’s a start.

Also available is a program that allows homebrewers to update the Shop Channel while leaving the rest of the firmware alone, negating the need to update your Wii at all this time.

The battle continues.

Recent Wii firmware update kills homebrew

Published by Rhody

The Wii firmware update that was released yesterday prevents new installations of homebrew applications. That means if you already have the Wii Homebrew Channel installed, you can continue to use it. Otherwise, you’re out of luck. (At least until those tricky hackers find a way around it.) The update is required to use the Wii Shop Channel or purchase DLC.

This also means you can no longer install pirated WiiWare and Virtual Console games, which is probably the biggest reason Nintendo has for preventing you from hacking your Wii. It’s just a shame that those other neat homebrew applications get caught up in all this. Feel free to check out WiiBrew for more technical information that goes right over my head.

Homebrew group awakens Sailor Moon on the Wii

Normally, the homebrew community likes to create new, original games that spark the imagination. Every now and then, though, we’ll see someone give their own spin on existing IPs. That’s what Destiny Revival is doing with their series of five games based on the Sailor Moon.

kungpow12345 has revealed Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, a widescreen homebrew Wii game with Wii Remote functionality support for up to four players. Both Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon S should be playable by next year’s Otakon in July… assuming kungpow12345 doesn’t get sued and the project shut down beforehand.

Regardless of whether you were a fan or not, most of you are probably old enough to remember the anime series’ heyday. For a little blast to the past, I’ve thrown the English intro video after the break for you to enjoy.

Smash Bros. makes for true a DS “rumble”

Smash Bros. isn’t coming to the DS anytime soon, but that doesn’t seem to stop the fans desperate for the game. Fuzzy has a working homebrew demo of “Super Smash Bros. Rumble” on his website, complete with two playable characters, a handful of stages, and no multiplayer!

It’s a decent start for an ambitious project, and you can go download it and try it out provided you have the means. It’s not like your going to be able to play a completed version of Fuzzy’s game - I’m sure Nintendo’s legal team is already waiting to pounce on the use of Nintendo properties any minute now.
