It’s Halloween! Without a doubt my favorite non-gift receiving holiday, and the perfect day for some Luigi’s Mansion.

Okay, I’ll admit. That’s my Mario pumpkin from a year ago. My Bowser pumpkin this year didn’t turn out too great (pictured below the break). Are you guys and girls carving any video game themed jack-o-lanterns to celebrate? What about dressing up as your favorite gaming characters as you humbly beg for candy?

After seeing season after season of awesome Halloween costumes show up on tots and toddlers all over the Internet, I’ve come to a conclusion. There’s no better way to express your love for any of your interests or hobbies than to have children. I mean, just look at ‘em. They raised a full set of ghosts. It’s so cute and nerdy I’ll even let it slide that they have two Blinkeys and no Clyde. They just need to carry plastic cherry buckets instead of the classic pumpkin, don’t you think?

Halloween is a time to turn the lights down low and dust off the scary game you can find from your bookshelf.  Is it Luigi’s Mansion?  Ju-On: The Grudge? Or is it… Family Game Night 2? Ahh!!

Hasbro has included some spooky costumes within the game, unlockable for the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head; specifically Dracula and the Bride of Frankenstein. Dracula Potato Head is pretty scary, but is he scary enough to be your Halloween game of choice?

Trick or treat! A Different Game stated via Twitter this morning that a (very) special announcement is in the works regarding their augmented reality game, Ghostwire. In case you’ve forgotten, Ghostwire is a DSi-only title which uses the camera to show a live view of the player’s surroundings as they hunt for ghosts. Using a variety of methods, the game determines what it thinks is haunted, and overlays images of the offending ghost, allowing the player to save them for further interaction. No concrete info has been released – no word on pricing, only an estimated release date (2nd half of 2010), and the publisher they have lined up hasn’t been announced. Could one or any of these things be the announcement on midnight of Halloween? Only time will tell.

With all the chaos The Tanooki has been through these past few days, we’ve had no time to get festivities started properly! We need to Halloween it up in here. And what better way than with these pumpkins featuring the likeness of Nintendo superstars.

There are tons (literally, ha) of Nintendo pumpkins online, but I like these ones in particular because they feature a portrait of Shigeru Miyamoto, creator and…fuggit, I don’t need to tell you who he is. Thanks to his cult status online he’s now as recognizable as Mario himself. Take it in folks. It’s probably the first and last time you’ll ever see a pumpkin with a portrait of a  middle aged Japanese man.
