Additionally, GameStop offers free shipping with any purchased over $25 bucks. Otherwise, it’s just a few measly dollars. As stated above, the deal ends March 24th. So what are you waiting for? There are games to be purchased!

Plenty of you probably fell victim to a few gaming duds on Christmas morning. Your parents and family know you’re a gamer, so they think they’re being hip by giving you Avatar: The Game. Luckily GameStop has a new promotion where you’re able to trade in one of hundreds of titles, and will receive $20 off the price of any in-store purchase. Most of the titles are high quality gems that you’d be crazy to trade in, but understandably not all games suit all gamers.

The deal will run until January 10th, so play your new game until your heart’s content, and trade that sucker in.

Breaking street dates good for gamers, bad for business?

Some video game retailers have been known to release a title before the designated street date. Modern Warfare 2 is the latest game to be released early by GameStop, where several stores started selling the title over the weekend. While GameStop is using “competition” as its reasoning behind the release, this type of pre-release presents an unfair scenario for all retailers and publishers.

GameStop declares its decision was reached through several conversations with Activision, however a statement from Activision indicates the two aren’t on the same page. “Activision has not given any retailer permission to sell Modern Warfare 2 prior to the Nov. 10 street date,” said a company spokesperson to GameSpot.

Publishers set specific release dates for specific reasons, and releasing a title even a few days early could throw off sales figures. Additionally, it sets a standard for retailers to start selling a big title whenever they receive it, which can be dangerous to put that type of responsibility into the hands of retailers and not the makers of the game. Do you think “competition” is an invalid reason for retailers to sell a game early, or are you just happy to get your hands on a game early.

Scribblenauts pre-order bonus will make you look stupid, feel awesome

You know you want this. Well, it could potentially be yours. It’s the Gamestop pre-order bonus for Scribblenauts, which you were going to buy anyway, right? (Right?) The game is coming on September 15th, but supplies of the hat (Max’s Rooster Hat, if you haven’t figured it out already) are limited, so if you want one (and you so totally DO), you should probably finish clicking on ads and buying stuff from the Tanooki Store and run on down to Gamestop. Metroid Prime Trilogy keeps getting sweeter at GameStop

There aren’t many things in this world that are better than Metroid. That being said, free stuff comes close simply because, well, it’s free. What scares me the most is the proposition of free Metroid stuff and its potential to overload the happiness circuits of fans everywhere.

For anyone daring enough to take the risk of cardiac arrest and pre-order the Metroid Prime Trilogy through GameStop, they’ll receive a free T-shirt. And a wicked art booklet. Oh, and a pretty nice poster as well. Wow, and it looks like they are moving Christmas to August …Maybe. Did I mention that these games are all really good? Because they are.

Massive Mario mosaic comes with annual GameStop shareholder report

GameStop shareholder reports probably aren’t that interesting most of the time. I’m sure they mostly consist of lists of games and how many hundred percentage points of profit are made when they’re “traded in” and resold for $2 less than the price of a new copy. The most recent one, though, contains a mosaic of Mario made of screenshots. There’s something slightly unsettling about it, but it’s cool regardless. Super Mario Chess available at Gamestop

Well, chess counts as a game, right? There’s no reason Gamestop can’t sell a chess set. Especially one with an awesome Mario theme. Birdo and Yoshi as knights work perfectly, though there’s something disturbing about Bowser Jr. and Luigi as queens. Then, of course, there’s the fact that the pawns aren’t Goombas and Toads, who are instead rooks for some reason. Kind of a missed opportunity.

This slightly flawed chess set can be yours for just $49.99. Can I have my check now?

Klonoa Wiimake to be super budget priced at GameStop

A quick look at GameStop’s website shows that their listed price for Klonoa: Door to Phantomile is now just $29.99, down $10 from the previous $39.00 price point, which is still shown on other retailers’ websites. The European version will also be budget priced at 39.99€.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile releases in North America on May 5th and Europe on May 22nd.

GameStop finally selling Korg DS-10

Well, currently they’re only taking pre-orders, but it’s a start. GameStop originally refused to carry the DS music synthesizing program for whatever reason, but now it looks like they’ve changed their minds. The program will cost $30 at GameStop, as opposed to the standard $40 it’s been selling for everywhere else.

If you need a refresher, Korg DS-10 is a synthesizer program that mimics the Korg MS-10 synthesizer from the late 70’s/early 80’s, making the program a must-buy for anyone planning on starting a tiny New Wave band. (A Fleck of Seagulls? Men Without Beanies? The possibilities are endless.)
