EA Sports has announced that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 is now available for purchase. The game promises to improve in all aspects of gameplay, adding new modes and features.

PGA Tour 11 features the new Ryder Cup Challenge. Played at the scenic Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor Resort, players can represent the U.S. or their favorite European country in an attempt to win the tournament.

While naturally supporting the Wii Remote, with MotionPlus, this year’s game will also support Sony’s new PlayStation Move controller, set to debut this fall. The game also adds the new True View camera mode, a first person perspective, as well as a new robust 12 versus 12 online mode (360 and PS3 only) and mini-golf.

Capcom’s updated fighting title Super Street Fighter IV has finally released today in North America. The game uses Street Fighter IV as its backbone, adding tons of new features. Super boasts an impressive roster, adding 10 new characters, including fan favorites T. Hawk and Dee-Jay, as well as new additions like Final Fight characters Guy and Cody.

With new stages, new modes and the return of bonus stages (car destroying and barrel bashing), Super Street Fighter IV makes its predecessor look like a baby wearing a sun dress.

The game releases for just $39.99 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Groovin’ Blocks is now available for download on the PlayStation Network. The game features over 50 levels of musically inclined puzzle mayhem. With 20 beat pumping original songs, players have to try and match three or more gems. Once they are matched, they disappear, and you’ll acquire points. You can wait until the gems start to pile up, just don’t let them hit the top of the board or it’s game over. You can also collect stars to unlock 15 different level power-ups.

The game features three different skill levels, and supports local co-op and local competitive modes. There are also 11 different PSN trophies available to collect, for those who proudly display their awards. The title was previous released on Wii and WiiWare, as well as iPhone.

A confirmed release date can be as exciting as seeing a first screenshot of a beloved upcoming title. Nintendo has thankfully given their UK fans their official Q1 release schedule, offering release dates on some of the biggest (known) titles for Wii and DS of 2010. Excitebike: World Rally will grace the WiiWare service on February 5th, while Pokemon HeartGold/ SilverSoul will release March 26th, bundled with the Pokewalker. The DSi XL has also been re-confirmed to release on March 5th in both brown and red.

Hudson has returned for more mini-game fun with Deca Sports 2, in stores today.  The game will include a slew of new mini-games such as swimming, motorcycle riding, ice hockey and even dodge ball.

“DECA SPORTS 2 offers a unique mix of classic sports and more unconventional and particularly fun choices,” said Mike Pepe, Director of Marketing at Hudson Entertainment. “Sports like petanque and kendo are refreshing complements to tried-and-true games such as tennis and ice hockey, while the online multiplayer makes this sequel all the more exciting for sports fans of all ages.”

The game is available for $29.99.

With the summer gaming season coming to an end, Nintendo has decided to entice our eager souls with a bit of information about one of their most anticipated titles.  The company announced that The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the DS is slated for a December 7th release.  Additionally, Nintendo released the boxart of the game, pictured above.

Although we received a Zelda release date, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is still listed as the vague time frame of “Holiday 2009.” Regardless, we get a holiday with Mario and Zelda, a fanboy’s dream come true.

Unless you’ve been residing under a rock, you should be fully aware that Scribblenauts has released for the Nintendo DS.  The objective of the game is to get Maxwell, the main character with the helmet, to the Star located in each level.  To do so, you can draw almost anything you can think of with the stylus, then use that item assist you.

The above featurette shows off what went into making the game, from the unique hand drawn art style, to the vast array of in-game items available.

That said, Wii Fit should be perfect for us Asians, since fitness over in Japan where the game was made emphasizes maintaining physical health without working you too hard. Nintendo will finally be offering that service to those in Korea and Taiwan, where Wii Fit launches on December 6th and December 27th, respectively. It’s about time, too. After we had gotten the game back in May, I was beginning to worry if Nintendo would ever get those Korean MMORPG gamers away from their PC desk chairs and in front of their TVs to do their half-moon and breathing exercises.

Wii release lists are a little slimmer this week around the world, but those DS games… man, they just keep on coming. Then again, aside from the Korg DS-10 in North America and Professor Layton and the Curious Village in Europe, those DS releases are mostly spotted with licensed games.

In addition, just because the Wii lists are shorter, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing good available. Quantum of Solace launches here in North America, Guitar Hero World Tour and Trauma Center: New Blood will be out in Europe, and everyone’s getting Rubik’s World!

The release lists over the next few weeks should look similarly large, and for good reason. This week’s big release on Nintendo platforms in North America is undoubtedly Activision’s Guitar Hero: World Tour.

On the other side of the (small) pond, it’s not as clear a pick. Some would argue that it’s all about Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon. Those who haven’t spends hundreds on importing Final Fantasy “potions” from Japan might argue something like Quantum of Solace as being the big release. And then there’s Manhunt 2, which we’re not even going to begin revisiting 2007 with.

At $50 for 60+ instruments, you’d think Wii Music is a steal. Based on what we’ve played of the game, it may be a bit on the easy side for rhythm/music game enthusiasts, but for others, it can make for a fun party pasttime. As a future band director, I’m horrified of the possibility that kids will grow up thinking they can play notes at any time and it will sound good, but as a music educator, I’m looking forward to the creative outlet and exposure to so many new instruments.

If you’re not yet decided on whether or not to pick up the game, Nintendo’s launch press release can be read after the break talking about the details and modes of the game. I’ll try to get a review of the game done by next week, but seeing as I’m still playing through Sonic Chronicles…

Unique Music Game for Wii Focuses on Improvisation, Creativity and Fun

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 20, 2008 – The sound of trumpets, the clash of cymbals and the thunder of drums herald today’s launch of Wii Music™. Just as Wii Sports™ attracted millions of new players to the world of video games and Wii Fit™ showed people that fitness could be fun, Wii Music creates a whole new genre in video games, one that lets players have fun experimenting with music as they strive to produce fun, masterful arrangements.

Unlike other music video games, Wii Music lets you put your own spin on songs. It’s all about improvisation, creativity and fun. The goal is to explore your inner musician to find creative and interesting new blends of instruments, tempos and styles.

To play each instrument, you use the motion-sensing abilities of the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers to mimic the real-life motions of instruments: bow a violin, strike a vibraphone or pluck a sitar. The controllers know if you’re playing fast or slow, hitting the notes gently or really jamming. Musical novices can understand how to play and start carrying a tune instantly, while people who are really into music will have fun creating mixes, rearranging tunes and sharing them with friends.

Songs in the Wii Music catalog can be rearranged with different instruments for a virtually endless variety of sounds. Imagine putting a reggae spin on Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” or turning pop favorites like “Every Breath You Take” or “Please Mr. Postman” into heavy metal tunes. The song list contains everything from American classics like “The Entertainer” to international favorites like “La Cucaracha.” Video game fans will find several Nintendo favorites, like the themes from Super Mario Bros. ™, The Legend of Zelda™ and even Wii Sports.

Wii Music builds on the social gaming trend that Nintendo has pioneered. Not only can up to four musicians jam together on the same song, but once you’ve created your masterpiece, you can send it electronically to friends and family members who have Wii Music so that they can bask in your musical mastery. After they’ve had a listen, they can take your arrangement and add their own flavor to it with new instruments or a different tempo and send it back to you. This allows you to jam together even if you are miles apart.

Finally, Wii Music includes a variety of mini-games that let players create music videos, conduct an orchestra, play in a handbell choir, test their musical ears or even rock out on a virtual drum set. Drum Mode lets you use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers as drumsticks to play like you have a real-life drum set. Drummers who purchase Wii Fit separately also can use the Wii Balance Board™ accessory as virtual pedals for the bass drum and the hi-hat cymbal. If you’re like me, you’re still enjoying some of the great games that have come out in the past couple of weeks, both retail releases and downloads. Thankfully, it’s a quiet week in that there aren’t many major blockbusters with heavy marketing telling you to buy the games – you can ease yourself into this week.

Those of us in the States (and Canada) are getting a Crash game, Line Rider 2, NBA Live, Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, and the always enjoyable Imagine: Babysitters. Over in Europe, the line-up is a little bigger with games like LEGO Batman and Lost in Blue 3, and Japan should be good with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Snoopy DS.
