Do you like Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood‘s multiplayer mode (or Assassin’s Creed in general)? How about free stuff? Well, have I got news for you. The official Assassin’s Creed Facebook community is approaching 1,000,000 likes, and to commemorate this momentous occasion, Ubisoft is preparing a few goodies, including the spiffy new Venezia by Night multiplayer map, which will be released for free. Other bonuses include a commemorative shirt (which probably won’t be free), a special Thank You video from the development team, and a 24-hour 15% discount from the UbiWorkshop online store (presumably on everything). Oh, you can also expect some giveaways on Facebook, which could lead to even more freebies, if you happen to be incredibly lucky.

The greatest part of Facebook is the freedom to stalk peer through the window of your friends’ personal lives. Similarly, the social network has allowed us to learn a great deal about the off-screen relationships between some of Nintendo’s greatest characters.

Brothers Mario and Luigi sure seem to fight for the greater good in their many adventures, but the duo doesn’t mind taking a few shots at one another, according to their recent Facebook wall battle.

Social networking has become a permanent fixture among gaming consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3. Even the Nintendo DS has Facebook functionality for their built-in photo application. Now four years after its launch, the Wii will get its first taste of social networking with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.

In an interview with Nintendojo, Vicarious Visions (developers of the Wii version of Warriors of Rock) shared their excitement to lead the social initiative on the console. “We are the first Wii title to support social networking sites, with Facebook and Twitter,” said Joe Fisher, the game’s producer. “We’ve also incorporated a Wii award system, so when you do specific challenges in the game, you get credited for an award.”

Now you’ll be able to share all your achievements with friends using the two popular social websites. How do you feel about games taking the initiative to allow sharing game stats with friends outside of the game?

Is one of the world’s most successful online mob based video games getting the film treatment? No. But it sounded like it was going to happen for a hot minute.

According to website Pajiba, Zynga’s insanely popular online game Mafia Wars was going to be turned into a movie. The crime based social networking game allows players to rise in rank through executing jobs, buying weapons and managing real estate.

Despite sounding like the perfect formula for a blockbuster Hollywood flick, Radar Pictures (the rumored development company behind the film) denies the report. However, Radar employee Mike Weber admits that it does “sound like a good idea for a movie.”

Although Mafia Wars isn’t going to be on the big screen, maybe we can still hold out hope for a possible FarmVille motion picture? If Disney can make a Pirate of the Caribbean flick based off a theme park ride, anything can happen.

You probably have a few celebrity friends on either Facebook, MySpace or Twitter that you routinely stalk. You probably didn’t think to search for video game characters, however.

Capcom’s league of robe wearing Street Fighters are all on Facebook. Isn’t it nice to see that they’re all friends outside of the series of games? Well, not exactly all friends. For those who fall into the overlapping circles of Battle.net and Facebook users, Blizzard has announced a new integration with world’s most popular social networking site. The new functionality will allow you to enhance your Blizzard experience by adding your Facebook friends to your Battle.net friend list, with more features to come later. Said Paul Sams, the chief operation officer at Blizzard Entertainment:

“We’re pleased to be working with Facebook to integrate their platform with Battle.net to enhance the social-entertainment experience for our players. This new functionality will make it easier than ever to connect with friends on Battle.net and play StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games together.”

Expect to see the functionality emerge as the beta for Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty (expected July 27, 2010) starts up, at an as-yet-announced date, true Blizzard style.

Amid rumors of Red Steel 3 development being underway, it seems we’ve gotten confirmation that the team at Ubisoft has definitely moved on from the alleged game’s predecessor. Jason VandenBerghe, Red Steel 2‘s Creative Director, has posted to his Facebook profile with the following status update:

“What an incredibly overloaded couple of weeks. You know what happens when you finish a video game? You start working on another one, that’s what!!”

Obviously, the easiest speculation is that he’s referring to the third installment for the franchise. Of course, there always remains the possibility that another title could be in the works…

If you’re a-fixin’ to get your taste of Red Dead Redemption before it’s official May 18 debut on XBOX 360 and PS3, then head on over to Facebook to play the new Red Dead Redemption app, currently open it in beta. Think of this as Red Dead Redemption Lite, if you will.

I don’t play FarmVille, but I know many people who do. I’ll watch as my Facebook news feed fills up with updates, telling me who’s addiction is currently in overdrive and who’s just playing once in a while. None of them, however, lack self-control to this degree.

One 12-year-old boy in the UK manage to spend £905 on FarmVille, a combination of both his entire savings plus a larger portion paid using his mother’s credit card without her knowledge. The mother stopped her credit card at the end of last month when she found out about the initial Facebook charge from about two weeks prior, but all charges between those dates were still counted. Since her son lives in her house as a dependent, Facebook and Zynga won’t refund any money. Her credit card company, HSBC, would only refund the money if she were to call the police and report the spending as a crime, but understandably she doesn’t want to jeopardize her son’s future with a crime number.

£905 is roughly $1,400 in US money (about $100 a day), so it goes without saying that both the mom and her son were shocked when they realized how much was spent. I’m starting to appreciate growing up in a world without microtransactions before learning the value of money.

I loved Facebook when it first came out. I was in college, and so was everyone else on Facebook. Back then, you could actually post your class schedules, and the Wall wasn’t so important. Nowadays, you can post status updates, join pages, even share web sites. The biggest thing seems to be apps – I’ve been extremely picky in app use, so I’m not the kind that you’ll see on your feeds having taken the latest quiz or dealing with cows and mafias.

It’s probably a different story for the rest of you – I’ll bet half of you took some kind of Facebook quiz in the past week. You’ve also probably already been posting your 360 achievements to your Facebook profile. Whoop-dee-doo. But now your PS3 has a title that can do it in-game, and that’s BUZZ! Quiz World! It’s supposedly the first PS3 game to adapt the Facebook API in-game and allow you to publish to your wall and your friends’ feed, provided that you’ve synced your PSN account with your Facebook account.

It’s too bad more games don’t have this. I actually wouldn’t mind showing off my daily Wii Fit Plus stats to my profile.

With the success of popular Facebook games like Farmville and Mafia Wars, it’s no wonder that industry shakers like EA and Sid Meier are trying to hope on the band wagon. Madden Football and Civilization are just two popular series known to have a Facebook version in the works, and given the 38 million people using their Facebook accounts to play games, the trend will probably only take off from here.

Just don’t expect to see Nintendo doing it! When asked by Venturebeat if she saw a future in having Mario on Facebook, Nintendo of America’s vice president of sales & marketing Cammie Dunaway said:

“I don’t know. I think we will continue to save Mario for our own platforms. It’s one of the secret weapons we have. Mario and Zelda are intellectual property that is important to us and will only be seen on Nintendo platforms.”

She does have a point. And besides, do we really need another Facebook game polluting the feed pages? A friend of mine just updated with a plea for help collecting jars for her Cafe World spice rack. Stop the insanity!

We’ve seen it with Pokemon just a few months ago. Now, it’s Mega Man wants in on the fun. To celebrate the release of Mega Man 10, hundreds of Facebook users have changed their profile pictures to their favorite Robot Masters throughout the franchise’s history. From Splash Woman to the new Sheep Man, gamers are showing off their favorite foes for all of their “friends” to see.

A few different Facebook groups have been established, each are trying to spread word of the movement. While they didn’t start it, Capcom does support the movement, sharing the link of one of the groups on their Facebook wall. It’s great to see strong love for the Blue Bomber, or rather, his foes, even after twenty years.

Are you going to join in on the fun? By the way, I’ve gone ahead and changed my profile picture to Armored Armadillo from Mega Man X.

EA Sports President Peter Moore spoke about the companies plans to bring the Madden NFL franchise to the service. “We have to make Madden more accessible,” said Moore. “You’ll see us on Facebook going forward.”

While not a lot of information is given about the Facebook football title, it’s clear that moving towards developing titles for social networks is a solid idea, considering the huge market. I’m pretty sure Madden is just the first of many sports apps EA Sports plans to develop.

Facebook user Donte Larry has a love for Pokemon. In fact, his love is so strong, he’s established a Facebook event that encourages users to change their profile pictures to their favorite Pokemon. From Pikachu to Snorlax, users have been swapping their generic red-cup-in-hand frat house photos for their beloved cartoon companions. Actually, over 271,000 Facebook members have joined the event.

You may be wondering how such an event came to be. “The Pokemon theme song popped into my head randomly,” said Donte Larry.  ”It started bringing back good memories, so I decided to change my profile pic just for fun. And then I though ‘I wonder how many other people would change their profile pics too.’ And so the event was born.”

Other groups have spawned from the event, including one by member Craig Fischer who declared December as National “Make Your Profile Picture a Pokemon” Month. “The event was to just change your profile picture to a Pokemon,” said Fischer. “I decided to make it a month long event; this way we could do it every year.” I guess he was on to something, as his group has over 31,000 members.

With just a few days left in the month, what better way to get into the holiday spirit then to upload your favorite Pokemon image. Who will you choose?
