EA isn’t officially admitting anything, but there’s a hint of Mass Effect on Wii U on the horizon. In an interview with GameTrailers, Frank Gibeau of EA said:

“I can’t say we are going to do it on the Wii U, but you can imagine what we could do with that controller in the Mass Effect universe. It feels like a really nice fit, but we’ll announce that when the time is right.”

That wording would suggest there will be something to announce later, yes? Now, what features would you Mass Effect fans like to see incorporated with the Wii U tech?

EA Europe Senior Vice President Patrick Soderlund previously confirmed that a Mirror’s Edge sequel was in the pipeline, but now it seems that the game has turned into a pipe dream.

A demo of the game was shown internally at EA, and EA execs have said in the past that Mirror’s Edge deserved a sequel. However due in part to the lackluster sales of the first game, development of the sequel has been shelved, and the development team at EA’s Digital Illusions CE has moved on to other projects.

Of course, that’s not to say a sequel will never be released, but at the moment it is no longer a priority at EA.

Oh, Sims. You’ve won me over once again. You’d think with a recent move to all major consoles, the wildly popular life simulator would be running on E, but EA always has a trick up their sleeve. The 3DS version of The Sims 3 will retain many features of the original, but with one detail I’m really digging: like its console counterparts, the Karma system is used to unleash havoc or heaven on your Sims, depending on your mood. On the 3DS, these disasters or delights can be triggered by direct interaction with your hand held; for instance, shaking creates an earthquake, blowing into it will release butterflies. Other special features for the 3DS include customizable Sims made in your own image, taking a photo with the 3DS camera and altering facial characteristics with your stylus. And with the ever popular StreetPass, you’ll be able to exchange Sims with other players in passing. Sadly, I haven’t heard anything about the Create A Pattern tool.

The latest issue of Famisu detailed next spring’s The Sims 3 for the Nintendo 3DS, noting that you’ll be able to create a Sim in your own likeness using the 3DS cameras. The game will allow for further customization of “you” by letting you download hairstyles, clothing, accessories over the Internet, as well as using the game’s built-in editor to edit faces, skin color, personality, life goals, and so on. You can then exchange Sims with other players via the game’s “Street Pass” feature.

Another feature, called “Karma Power,” will allow you to shake your 3DS — aha, accelerometers at work! –to instantly change your Sims’ lives. The shaking may cause money to fall from the sky. Woohoo! Though if you push your luck, you may cause an earthquake.

Two new screens were also revealed. One of them is blown up above, and you can see both at their normal resolution via the gallery below.

Rumors from Joystiq indicated that Mass Effect 3 would be announced tomorrow at the Video Game Awards, and now a slip up in the EA store seems to back that up. Appearing momentarily and quickly taken down again, Mass Effect 3 went up for preorder for $59.99 on the PC platform, with the product description:

Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth.

Of course, only tomorrow’s event will confirm Joystiq’s specific rumor, but for now it looks like the cat’s out of the bag.

The first part is upon us! The first of two planned games coinciding with the two Deathly Hallows films, Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 amps up the action while for the first time taking the player outside of the sanctity and safety of Hogwarts as Harry tries to track down the Horcuxes to prevent Voldemort’s successful quest for ultimate power once and for all. Currently on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, PC, and mobile, with side missions on the Xbox version that include the Kinect, which you can see a bit of in the video below.

Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 the video game is now available, with a world wide film release starting tomorrow night.

While the need for speed is in hot pursuit on consoles this week, EA isn’t leaving out the Nintendo DSi crowd. Releasing today on the DSiWare service comes Need for Speed: Nitro-X. The game brings forth the fun arcade racing style you love, with additions like touch screen controls, and the ability to import your own images into the game’s environments using the new Camera Tag Editor.

Next week, EA is breathing old life into their Need for Speed franchise with a focus on the power struggle between the good and the bad. In Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, players will have a choice between racing as the police, or as a getaway driver in this high action racer.

The newest live-action trailer demonstrates the taunting between the 5-0 and the suspects at large. It also gives that sexy police Lambo all the screen time it deserves.

Hot Pursuit will be available for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC and Apple iPhone on the 16th.

If you’re like me, you can’t even begin to comprehend why some truly terrific franchises get neglected by publishers. In EA’s case, I’m strictly talking about their winter sports extravaganza, SSX. The last SSX game was the 2007 motion-based SSX Blur for Wii, easily the greatest skiing/ snowboarding title on the console before the creation of the Balance Board.

Now, rumor has it EA is readying new SSX game, thanks to the discovery of two new domain names: “SSX First Descent” and “SSX Deadly Descent.” Obviously there’s a good chance these domains serve a purpose, possibly PlayStation Move and Kinect infused. Or, maybe the new domain names serve as EA’s leap into the perfume business, with “First Descent” for her and “Deadly Descent” for him.

Eh,… let’s hope it’s a new game.

Despite a rocky road, I can honestly say I didn’t see this coming.

EA has confirmed — during an investor’s call — that the company has canceled their upcoming basketball video game, NBA Elite 11. The new Elite branding aimed to step in for the company‘s past NBA Live franchise.

The game has seen a bumpy development; recently a delay was called for the fall slated basketball sim to winter. Ironically, EA Sports initially planned to release three modes of NBA Jam with the Elite software on Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. Now, Jam is the only basketball offering the company will have this term.

EA does plan on resurrected the Elite brand next year, with development headed by EA Tiburon, of Madden fame.

Back in 2009, Steven Spielberg and EA announced plans to work hand and hand on a new video game, with the codename LMNO. Well, just like Spielberg’s career after 1999 (zing!), the project is dead.

A former developer for EA gave a statement during a 8-4 podcast about the projects status:

I don’t know exactly what was the thing that made it fall apart. I’m sure anybody you ask is gonna tell you something a little bit different, but it didn’t end up ever taking off.

I’m sure we were all excited to see what impact Spielberg would have made upon the gaming industry. I guess for now, the answer is Boom Blox.

While EA is currently putting the finishing touches on the upcoming space shooter sequel Dead Space 2 for a multi-platform release, the company announced an incentive for PlayStation 3 owners. The Dead Space 2 Limited Edition version of the game will come with a brand new HD remake of the Wii title Dead Space: Extraction.

Extraction serves as a prequel to the original title, exploring the background and story of main character Isaac Clarke. The PS3 version of Extraction will feature improved visuals, co-op gameplay, support for SIXAXIS, DualShock 3 and PS Move controllers, and implemented Trophy system for racking up in-game achievements.

For those that want to take part in Extraction without Dead Space 2, you’re in luck. EA is offering the game as a downloadable offering via the PSN.

Dead Space 2 is set to release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 January 25th.

This October was set to serve as the launch for two of EA Sports’ most anticipated sports titles of the year, ironically both basketball titles. The arcade classic NBA Jam is returning with a new revamped version for Wii, while PS3 and Xbox 360 owners were amped for NBA Elite 11, a brand new franchise that took over for the popular NBA Live series.

Today, EA Sports President Peter Moore made two big announcements. First, NBA Elite 11 will be delayed for fine tuning. Moore spoke out on his official blog about the game, which he thinks will truly delight fans once released.

“This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA Elite. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre.   Unfortunately, NBA Elite 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month’s launch.  We are going to keep working until we’re certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience.”

Moore made a second huge announcement. NBA Jam will be sold as a standalone product for Xbox 360 and PS3. Three modes of the game were originally to be included as a downloadable demo on NBA Elite 11 discs. Now, it appears EA has changed their tune. The PS3/ Xbox 360 standalone version, which will include an exclusive online mode, will be out by the holiday season.

So much for Wii exclusivity…
