EA is taking a swing at tennis with Wii MotionPlus

Published by Pete

In addition to the already solid lineup of sports games from EA, the company is bringing an all new tennis franchise to consoles next year. The game is slated to land on the Wii first, followed by other platforms.

Details are scarce at this point, outside of the inclusion of (hopefully 1:1) Wii MotionPlus support. I would kill for a solid tennis game on the Wii, and with the potential of the add-on this could be an ace.

Current EA offer expires at midnight

Make no mistake: Electronic Arts is still looking to buy Take-Two. Unfortunately for EA, it seems that the process has drawn out long enough for EA to retire the $25.74 per share in cash offer for the Grand Theft Auto publisher. That offer expires today, at midnight tonight.

Instead, Take-Two has asked EA to sign a confidentiality agreement and will provide a management presentation to executives at EA, demonstrating the true value of the company. That includes a three-year release schedule, financial projections… all the good stuff I’d like to get my hands on. Alas, it’s only meant to convince EA that they need to fork over more money to acquire Take-Two.

Nintendo left out of Madden cover change

Published by Pete
Tags: Cover replacement, EA, Madden

When Brett Favre announced his return to the NFL, it sent ripples across nearly all circles of life (okay maybe not all, but a lot anyway). When Brett was revealed as the cover athlete of Madden 09, it was a tribute to the great career Favre had. Now he’s a New York Jet. Trouble, right? Don’t worry, EA has you covered.

Now available for download are the PDF versions of a shiny new cover with Jet Favre ready for action. Bad news for any Nintendo owners that are picking up the game, however, the replacements are available for all consoles except Wii and DS. Lame. How much harder is it to make those covers available too? At least the Wii will be getting the online roster update with Favre as a Jet.

EA is looking to find a home on Nintendo hardware

Published by Pete

It would make sense that the industry powerhouse, after being quoted regretting the level of Wii support, would go on to reveal that they currently have 40 titles in the works for Nintendo hardware.

That is a pretty big number, and if Boom Blox is any sign of what’s to come gamers should be in for a treat. Speaking of Boom Blox, EA also said that the game has crossed the 450,000 mark. Good news after the 60,000 week one.

EA regrets focusing on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3

Published by Ryan
Tags: EA, Nintendo

I’m sure that most of us are still shocked to see that our small white box has surpassed all consoles this generation, so it’s no surprise that 3rd parties are and trying to play catch-up. EA’s CEO John Riccitiello, has also shared his regret for focusing his resources on early bets this generation:

…we typically figured out who the market leader was going to be before the start of the cycle and bet with our development resources on that platform. We made the wrong call there (by betting on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), which made this transition harder than it would otherwise be. But now we’re catching up, and I think we’re fine. We’ve got some incredibly innovative Wii titles, incredibly innovative DS titles coming. And so I think that issue’s sort of behind us.

Who would have figured that a small sleek console with a magical controller would be shaking industry giants at this moment? Considering Capcom has also shared their opinion about providing more resources to Wii development, I assume that there are others doing the same. It’s only a matter of time before we should see the fruits of this labor.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - Hands on

While I was cruising the isles of gaming goodness, I stumbled the first EA game that I actually wanted to take a look at. Even though everybody was busy with Rock Band, Spore and Skate It, I wanted to take a crack at Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. While it didn’t have any footage of the actual story mode, it did have demos for Potions class, Wand Dueling and a full fledged Quidditch match.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince first look

Published by Ryan

The following trailer shows some interesting new gameplay elements in the Harry Potter universe.  The magical brewing looks almost like the class chemistry gameplay on Bully, but considering how intuitive the magic wand controls worked on the previous installment of the Harry Potter series, I assume that the controls should be more in-depth.  This game is scheduled for release on November 2008 to coincide with the theatrical release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and will be available for the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS, PSP, Mac OS X and Windows platforms.

Mushroom Men to feature original music by Les Claypool

While news coverage for the game Mushroom Men The Spore Wars has been relatively light, or some of you out there don’t seem to care, this should spark some definite interest. Les Claypool will provide original mushroom-inspired character and theme music to be used for a unique in-game experience. For all of those who don’t know, Les Claypool is considered by many to be the greatest Bass player of all time.

Les has created various themes from South Park to Robot Chicken, and has won fans with his hilarious bass playing antics while in the band Primus. It is a honor to know that his musical talent will soon be gracing my Nintendo Wii.

Take a look at Les Claypool’s full response on the matter after the break.
