Oh snap! David Cage, the man who helmed Heavy Rain, says that Microsoft’s debut video for Project Natal at E3 2009 stretched things a little bit in order to present an impressive video.

“I’ve seen Natal, and I’m really curious to see what they’re going to do with it. I was a bit frustrated that they presented it with a sci-fi-type presentation. When the kid comes in with the skateboard and the laser ray, scanning the skateboard, and then it’s in the game… [*rolls eyes*] We are in the industry; we know what’s feasible and what’s not.

“I thought it was a little bit lying to present it that way because it will let [consumers] think that they will [see] something that they are not really close to getting.”

You can re-view last year’s video above and decide for yourself – obviously some parts are just for effect, but I thought it was fairly clear as to what’s realistic, and what was simply a visualization of what can be done.

Here’s a brief teaser trailer for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Wii. Remember when it wasn’t coming to the Wii, because Konami thought you wouldn’t be playing with your grandma? Here we are today, and you’re expected to be playing with your mom. Classic.

Yep, more trailer action. This time, it’s High Voltage’s highly anticipated game, The Conduit, published by SEGA. This is the full length E3 trailer, rather than the blip that Reggie showed at Nintendo’s Media Briefing. Reggie also said that this was the game that would win over the Halo gamers to the Wii. Ready for another smashing brawl? Ubisoft’s got you covered with more turtle power than you could ask for. I’ve managed to get the E3 trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up uploaded, so you can check it out. For those that are a bit worried about the game, know that it was developed by Game Arts, the same company from which many of Super Smash Bros. Brawl‘s developers were recruited from. Yep, the same ones that Masahiro Sakurai visited and found their GameCube analog sticks eroded from non-stop Melee play.

Anyway, be sure to check out the trailer above. Looks decent for a turtles fighter but… remember when April wasn’t a ninja?

I’m not big on horror movies, and I’m fine with survival/horror games in smaller chunks. Still, I can see why people enjoy the genre, and that’s exactly Silent Hill: Shattered Memories producer Tomm Hulett’s reasoning in developing the game for the Wii’s large but casual fanbase.

“For the casual gamer, we say this like it’s strange, but casual gamers go to horror movies. There’s a reason that we all started playing survival horror — it was new and different and, ‘Oh, it’s like scary movie that I play.’”

Makes sense so far.

“I’ve had my mom try it out and she only plays Animal Crossing, but she can walk around as Harry Mason and run from creatures. It’s really easy to pick up and play. If there’s a casual gamer who enjoys going to the movies and seeing The Ring, they can go to the store afterward and buy Silent Hill and have a horror experience at home.”

There we go. We need more casual gamers and more moms like Mr. Hulett’s mom.

5th Cell’s Scribblenauts is getting boatloads of attention after its appearance at this years E3, and deservedly so. The premise is simple: you play as Maxwell, a child sporting a pair of headphones and “Rooster Hat”, and you have to solve puzzles using words. After typing in the desired word it will appear on your screen, available for use to solve the puzzle at hand. Afterwards, you’re awarded points and achievements according to how you figured it out. For example, if your character is hungry and you simply use the word “cheese”, you’ll pass, but “hamburger” would net your more points for creativity. Simply put, the more inventive you are, the more you’re rewarded.

The vocabulary is said to be deep, with the developer going as far as saying, “People won’t write half the things that exist in this game…” The video above shows Scribblenauts in action, displaying its unique gameplay. I mean, where else would you be able to see Kraken and God duke it out?

There’s no real breaking news here, but it’s just nice to hear about. As I’m sure many of you know, Tomonobu Itagaki is the former leader of Team Ninja, and he has since left the company and now works with a large number of his former Team Ninja colleagues in an independent game developing company that they’re currently calling the Tokyo Vikings. Meanwhile, Team Ninja is now working hand-in-hand with Nintendo on Metroid: Other M. What does Itagaki think about the project? Here’s a bit from a recent interview:

How do you feel about the Team Ninja-doing-Metroid-reinvention news? Is this something you would have welcomed when you were still there?

Itagaki: Metroid is a fantastic game that I played a lot on the Disk System when I was a child. I also know Mr. Sakamoto, the producer at Nintendo, very well. He fathered Samus Aran. He’s been making games since I was a child, so he’s a veteran I really respect. I think [Yosuke] Hayashi will learn a lot working with him. I hope Team Ninja works hard in making a good game.

Like I said, always nice to hear these things.

Not sure why, but some fans are thinking that Metroid: Other M‘s title suggests that the title will be a mature, M-rated game. I’m pretty sure the ESRB hasn’t played through anything remotely close to a final build, and I don’t recall developers or publishers ever naming a game based on its age rating or appropriateness for certain audiences. Here’s what Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime had to say:

“Big Metroid surprise. We’ve been holding this one very close to the vest to make sure that the surprise would be there. Not only the game itself looks fabulous but also this collaboration with Team Ninja, which has been very fruitful, very great work together. Not necessarily [M-rated]. At this point, it is very early, we said it’s a title that’s going to come out in 2010. Really, Project M is our internal terminology for the collaboration for what’s being done. Don’t read into it as to what the ESRB will be.”

Oh shucks, it might get a “T” rating. I’m sure most of you are going to skip out on it now.
