Donkey Kong climbs onto Jenga

Published by Pete

Board game company USAopoly is bringing two beloved gaming past times together this September with Donkey Kong Jenga. One is about climbing a tower; one is about building a tower; that’s close enough to merge the two right? The interesting thing is that mysterious spinner, as well as the little Mario’s climbing up the tower. I get nervous, and develop a pretty solid case of Jenga Jitters. Not even Donkey Kong can help that.

Dragonforce opens concert with Donkey Kong

Published by Joey

The rock band Dragonforce has become pretty well known to gamers since Through the Fire and the Flames appeared as the final song in Guitar Hero III. The Tanooki’s own Matthew Dominick had one particularly epic, yet well-documented run in with this song not too long ago.

While many gamers have enjoyed their insanely difficult addition to the Guitar Hero library, the actual band members seem to be gamers themselves as the group opened a concert in California today with the theme from Donkey Kong Country. Ryan, one of our Tanooki staff writers was present at the concert, and was treated to a first hand experience of this surprise music selection. This bit of news makes me wonder if the band has ever played their own song on Guitar Hero, and if they enjoyed it as much as Matt did. Hmmm….

From Donkey Kong to Wii Fit: Miyamoto speaks!

Published by Christian

An entire 90-minute interview with Shigeru Miyamoto has popped up online. It looks as though it’s the whole interview that we’ve seen bits and pieces of in the past…or maybe it’s just a lot of the same questions. You can head on over if you want to hear Shiggy’s thoughts on Wii Fit, WiiWare, Donkey Kong, the Wii Remote, graphics improvement, and more. Here’s just a little preview:

Clive Thompson: A friend of mine is the editor of Sterling Publishing, which is one of the largest children’s book publishers here, and she’s terrified by the success of Professor Layton and Hotel Dusk, because she thinks this is the future of books and she’s not sure how the industry will adapt to it.

Shigeru Miyamoto: Yeah, as I was saying with the interface of the home console where you have the monitor, the computer processor, and then the connection to the player, I think that there is certainly possibility for a lot of different mediums that people have experienced in the past to be reawakened or given new life by being brought over to a home console and giving an interactive flavor to it.

There’s also a little blurb on Wii Music, so head on over and check it out.
