When the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future visited Scrooge, their purpose was to help him gain perspective and to essentially save his soul. These aren’t those ghosts, though. This isn’t Scrooge, either — it’s Mega Man.

Sprites INC has put together a little holiday entertainment for you in the form of A Mega Man Christmas Carol, a playable Flash game in which Jacob Marley and the trio of Christmas spirits are actually Robot Masters, all under the direction of Dr. Light as Santa… or at least someone who resembles like Santa. You’ve displeased him this year, so he sends the spirits after you. No levels, just boss battles. A fun way to end the holiday weekend, right?

It’s almost Halloween! You know what that means: Christmas pre-season for bored housewives and Women’s Home Journal readers everywhere!

All jokes aside, I actually want these for my tree this year. I personally go with video game themes for some of my holiday decorations. OK, I lie. It’s the only way you can get me to decorate, period. I get compliments on my living room decor, but I got every last piece of furniture from my aunt. It’s basically hand-me-down good taste. My walls are lined with Mega Man portraits and Super Mario fan art. I’m not exactly the definition of femininity. And I’m lazy. Between the two…well, there’s your explanation for why my bathroom has a Dr. Mario theme and perpetually smells like dudes.

Victoria Beckham needs to lose weight? What?

The pop star/model received a Wii for Christmas from her hubbie David Beckham. Since the family’s been living in Italy for a few months while David plays with AC Milan, Posh has been eating quite a bit of pizza and pasta. Another celebrity source had this to say:

Victoria loves the game – she can play it with the kids and still work off calories. But I hope she doesn’t get too skinny again.

London team from Google donates Wii to children’s hospital

…and the heartwarming holiday stories continue. No assault charges here. No, instead, we’re hearing from Google’s blog on some generous acts of kindness from this past holiday. I’ll let their London entry speak for itself.

The UK engineering recruitment team started to plan its annual Secret Santa gift exchange. But as they began thinking about last year, they realized that hardly anyone on the team could remember what they’d received, let alone given. Instead of spending 10 pounds on gag gifts, they decided to use the money to make a difference. After discovering that a local children’s hospital was in desperate need of gifts, they quickly raised enough money to buy a Nintendo Wii gaming console for one of the wards.

You would hope that after they ditched the idea of a million cheap toys in favor of a Wii, the hospital followed up and purchased some AAA titles for the kids rather than shovelware. Maybe it doesn’t matter, though. Maybe they’ll be happy that the world’s thinking about them.

Christmas 2008 videos: Kids get the Wii!

So we found out that some people don’t want a Wii for Christmas. That doesn’t change the fact that most people do.

We see videos every year, but I’m a fan of this new one in particular. Nevermind the fact that there are seven kids in this family, all six boys are just sitting and/or watching while half asleep as their little sister opens up the present from daddy. “Can we get the Wii?” “If you can find it!” ZOOM. Off to the races. You might notice those boys were screaming so loud about the controllers, their sister had to cover her ears!

Wii causes bruises, assault charges on Christmas

I guess some people just don’t want a Wii. Heath Blom, 26, of New Hampshire, was allegedly expecting a $1,000 RC airplane from his grandparents for Christmas. When he didn’t get it, he became upset and “acted like a 10-year-old.” When his girlfriend, Randi Young, 24, followed up by giving him a Wii for Christmas, he blew his lid, said he hated it, and – long story short – the two have been charged for assault.

You can read through all the cloudy details at the Herald article below. There was punching, dragging of people down flights of stairs, knotted hair, what have you. Not exactly the Christmas that Nintendo was expecting people to have on account of them, you think?

How Nintendo nearly ruined Christmas

Back in the 80s, bringing video games into your own household was still a pretty new concept, and it no doubt seemed absolutely foreign to that generation’s parents. Or at least, I assume it did – hey, I wasn’t around for a good part of that decade!

Sue Davis was one of those parents. Sure, she’s probably a little more aware of things now, what with all the Dance Dance Revolution, Brain Age, Wii Fit, and more games catching mainstream attention, but she definitely didn’t want a Nintendo console in the house twenty-some years ago.

Suddenly Brian, in his youthful, but ignorant, exuberance, yelled loudly, “Wow a Nintendo! Just what Mom and Dad said we could NEVER have!”

The room went silent as a tomb for about five seconds and then my father-in-law gently nudged his wife with his elbow and muttered, “See, I told you we should have asked!”

EA sends out Boom Blox cheat codes for the holidays

The holiday giving continues! This time, EA send out a quartet of cheat codes for Steven Spielberg’s Boom Blox for the Wii in celebration of the holidays, new year, and of course Boom Blox’s win as the “Best Wii Game” according to the Spike Video Game Awards.

The four codes allow you to unlock all the toys, props, and characters in the game’s Create Mode as well as all the levels in the game. You can check them all out after the break as well as the instructions for entering them.

BOOM BLOX is fresh off its win for “Best Wii Game” at the 2008 Spike Video Game Awards. With these codes, you can unlock all the props, toys and characters in the game’s Create Mode, and you can unlock all the levels in the game for even more action-packed destruction!!

So maybe you don’t want to put a Triforce on your tree. You want something a little more traditional, yet fun and unique. How bout a Starman? Or some super or 1-up mushroom tree ornaments? Maybe some goomba shoe stockings for the kids?
