Resident Evil Revelations demo available now in Nintendo eShop

Not ready for the full Revelation? How about just a tidbit? Previously available with Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D, the Resident Evil: Revelations demo is now open for free download in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS. Play as one of three characters, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, or Keith Lumley and their intrepid partners as they face a menacing new virus amid the confined spaces of an abandoned cruise ship. The full experience can be purchased when Resident Evil Revelations debuts February 7.

Capcom announces PAX Prime 2011 line up

Capcom cancels Mega Man Legends 3

This should come as a sore disappointment to many across the Mega Man universe. Today, Capcom announced via blog post that they are officially cancelling the epic project Mega Man Legends 3. Apparently the title failed to meet necessary criteria to continue production, and as such, both the game and prototype will be abandoned. Driven by fan content and exciting many with the promised demo, Mega Man Legends 3 was one of the rarer bright spots in the Capcom community as of late, perhaps even contributing to 3DS sales in anticipation. While this is the second Mega Man title to be canceled this year, Capcom promises they are still dedicated to the series, saying they’ll “continue to pursue opportunities to create new titles”, however, the fan created content will not be used in any future games, and previous content winners will receive a gift in the mail for their participation.

Mega sads.

Capcom shifts focus off Nintendo and onto Xbox 360 and PS3

In a financial call discussing their plans for the coming fiscal year, Capcom has revealed an increase in expected sales on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, with waning expectations for Nintendo. While an increase in sales for Nintendo was also predicted, they’ve dropped the number of games they plan to offer on the home and handheld consoles, with the Wii only accounting for two Capcom titles this year, and the DS/3DS only nine (down from five and eleven, respectively). Meanwhile, the number of titles coming to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 increased, while PC and PSP remained the same.

The Wii is clearly on the way out (they expect only 200,000 in sales this year, down from 1.4 million last year), but I found the drop in hand held titles to be a surprise. Did you?

Capcom announces Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype version for Nintendo 3DS

Two moments you’ve long been waiting for, combined: Capcom has officially announced Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version, a 3DS taste of the upcoming Mega Man Legends 3 coming to the Nintendo eShop. Once the 3DS download game service launches, Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version will be among the first titles available, giving an inside look not only on the early development stages on Mega Man Legends 3, but also on the plethora of fan submitted content created during this collaborative process. Prepare to meet new character Barrett, ” the reckless leader of a sky biker gang” and get familiar with the new close combat gameplay style. Once you finish the main objectives, you’ll be given access to a special debug mode in an unfinished area of the game, where you can experiment as you see fit.

The fun begins when the much anticipated Nintendo eShop opens for business, sometime in late May. Until then you can get your mega fan on by checking out the trailer above and screen shots and key art in our gallery below.

After years of waiting, the new installment of Mega Man Legends draws closer with Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version! Available as a download, Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version will be a launch title when Nintendo eShop opens for business.

Mega Man Legends 3 is the first Capcom game to be co-developed by the fans. Prototype Version gives players the first taste of Mega Man’s upcoming open-world action/adventure game, and lets them see a game still early in the development process. It also introduces a new character to the franchise, the reckless leader of a sky biker gang, Barrett.

Be the first to try out his new close combat gameplay style, and see first-hand some of the fan contributions to the game come to life. Also, once you have finished the core missions, receive access to areas of the game not yet finished, as well as a debug menu that gives you special moves and abilities.

Once you experience the game, let your voice be heard by heading to www.capcom-unity.com/devroom and join the community of Servbots who are helping design the game. Get insight into what it takes to build a game, learn about the development process, and interact with the members of the Development Team themselves. But most importantly, be creative. No matter how large or small your idea is, you have the chance to see it come to life and get your name in the credits of the game!

Video: celebrate Resident Evil’s 15th anniversary

It’s almost Resident Evil’s 15th anniversary, and Capcom has decided they’re bringing us a dose of high def Redfield to celebrate. Resident Evil Code: Veronica X and Resident Evil 4 are going to be re-released, bringing back Chris, Claire, and Kennedy in HD! As you can see from the comparison shot below, the revamp will add beautiful new textures (while sadly neglecting to do anything with Leon’s 90s Goo Goo Doll hair):

Due out on Xbox 360 and PS3, both are expected as downloadable titles this upcoming fall. Check out the trailer commemorating this grand moment, above.

Capcom announces Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Now that evil has taken residence on the 3DS, you’d think Capcom would be focusing on their upcoming Nintendo endeavors, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and Resident Evil: Revelations. Lucky for us all, that’s dead wrong, as Capcom has announced a new title coming to Xbox 360, PC, and Playstation 3, called Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Plays take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier as they deal with the disaster at post-break out Raccoon City.

Accompanying this news is a tidbit on the 3DS Resident Evil titles. Capcom will be shipping Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D with a demo of Resident Evil: Revelations, allowing a sneak peek at the first all original RE 3DS title.

Expect Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City to release in winter of this year.

Monster Hunter’s future in the West is “bright”

While the vast majority of Monster Hunter fans currently reside in Japan, interest in the franchise is growing overseas. Capcom USA’s VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development Christian Svensson assured Western fans of the series that they have “goodness” to look forward to.

“All I can say is, the future for Monster Hunter fans in the west will be bright, but just as there was a sizeable gap between Freedom Unite and [Portable] 2nd, I think there’s going to be a little bit of a gap [following Monster Hunter Tri]. And exactly what form it takes, I can’t speak to — I have to unfortunately stay mum. But fear not, you guys have more goodness coming in the future.”

Svensson didn’t specify what games or platforms would see a future Monster Hunter release in the West (or if said “goodness” will even be a game…), but we do know that Capcom has already hinted at possibly bringing the franchise to the Nintendo 3DS. Perhaps that could make its way over?

Street Fighter producer likens 3DS hype to that of the Dreamcast

Yoshinori Ono, producer behind the Street Fighter series, was asked by Edge magazine why he wanted to develop for the Nintendo 3DS next. His answer? He’s about as excited for the new handheld as he was for Sega’s swan song of a console… and he means that with the utmost praise.

“First, we are in Nintendo country. Second, the feeling I have with 3DS is the same as when the Dreamcast came out – as a developer, I mean, these machines are so exciting. We’re fascinated by it at Capcom, and diving into the innards at the moment, but you know there’s just so much more there to unlock; it’s got more to give.”

Ono’s Street Fighter IV 3D launches alongside the Nintendo 3DS in just under twelve days in Japan, headlining the system’s launch lineup.

Make yourself at home with new Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D info and assets

Evil has a new Residence, and the 3DS is its name! Combining a mixture of Evil past and present, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will feature missions from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 fully realized in the third dimension, providing non stop action in a race against the clock to kill as many enemies as possible. As with its Capcom brethern, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will also utilize the Wi-Fi function to allow you to sync up with other players in co-op.

Get the 411 on Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition modes, trailers and screens

Along with today’s exciting news on the official 3DS release comes plenty of tidbits on some of the most anticipated titles. Among them is Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, apparently has a number of new modes focusing on the Wi-Fi functionality in the device. In the new Figurine Mode, figurines are unlocked during battle and placed in your inventory, where they sit idly until you pass by another player with figurines, battling automatically and leaving results and loot for you to check next time you open your 3DS. The Fight Request mode will allow you to request a showdown with players not only actively looking for a match, but also single players battling a CPU, allowing you to jump in their game and duke it out (provided they have the feature enabled). Spectator Mode does as the name implies, letting you check out other games going on in full 3D. And of course the Wi-Fi allows you to sync up and fight anyone across the world, any time.

The game boasts a full 35 player roster, and the ability to share the game with any 3DS player, even without a cartridge, playing as the character Ryu! Lite and Pro modes will also allow you to pull off moves by either simple or more challenging means.

There is no definitive release date yet for Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, but you’ll find a gameplay trailer below, as well as an updated gallery featuring five new screen shots.
