A Resident Evil 5 Wii port will be difficult for Capcom

Published by Ryan
Tags: Capcom, Nintendo Wii, Resident Evil 5

With the amazing controls that were added to the Wii Edition of Resident Evil 4, it would seem foolish not to think about a possibility of a Resident Evil 5 port. Capcom has indeed been pondering this question, the game’s producer, Jun Takeuchi, has stated:

Hmm…honestly speaking, we’re kind of pushing the 360 and PS3 to their limits right now, so it would probably be pretty difficult to create a Wii version of RE5.

Even though a Wii port at this position seems difficult, I can’t help but get the feeling of “Sour Grapes” from various Wii fans/haters that have stated, “If Capcom doesn’t do it, it probably wouldn’t be any good anyways.”

Capcom puts Mega Man 9 box art to work

Published by Pete
Tags: Boxart, Capcom, Mega Man 9

Let’s just get this out of the way. No, the cartridge isn’t playable on that mint condition NES that you have been babying for years now. It’s just an awesome case for the promotional media on the included disk.

That being said, it shouldn’t stop anyone flow blowing into the bottom of the cartridge each time they open it. Capcom is going all out to promote this game like it’s 1987. I wonder if they do the Locomotion as they move around the office. Who ever was responsible for the price tag should immediately get a raise. That, is genius.

Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop Trailer in “Bloody” form

Published by Ryan
Tags: Capcom, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, Nintendo Wii

While there are many haters these days with their “OMG…the Xbox grafix are better” comments floating around the web, I know that there are plenty of you out there that are excited about the Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop port. While the trailer above doesn’t show hundreds of zombies on the screen, just remember that this is an early build and Capcom has stated that they have a goal to provide at least 100 simultaneous zombies on the screen. This trailer also shows a few new enemies as well as the first look into the “Resident Evil 4” engine/controls.

Along with the new enemies, engine and controls, Chop Till You Drop will also feature other changes such as multiple save slots, camera options, and motion controls for various weapons. I just hope that they put a muzzle on Otis, he is the one of the reasons why I never finished the XBOX 360 version.

Okami owners to finally receive “Non-IGN” covers

Published by Ryan
Tags: Capcom, Nintendo Wii, Okami

If you were one of the few gamers who bought Okami for the Wii, you probably noticed that Capcom made a major “boo-boo” by using an “IGN” watermarked photo for the game disc cover.  You also should have noticed that Capcom has promised to provide new covers for those who have signed up.  According to an Official Capcom Blog, we will finally be seeing these covers hit our mail boxes any day now.

For those of you who did not fill out the official form to receive these covers, you can download high resolution copies, and print them yourselves.

E-Tanks on sale in Japan during August

Published by Christian
Tags: Capcom, Energy Drinks, Mega Man 9, Novelty, PSN, WiiWare, Xbox Live

The casings may not be as authentic as those limited edition Final Fantasy potions you see in the fancy bottles, but that doesn’t take away the awesome-factor here. Mega Man 9’s promotional campaign just got an energy boost from these new energy drinks! The Rockman E-Tank Sports Drink will be on sale in Japan all this month for ¥137 in all major convenience stores.

That’s roughly $1.25 in the US… so it’s about the same as your typical vending machine bottle, and far less than anything at Six Flags. Someone import a case and send it to Matt for his special day today.

Capcom leaves Viewtiful return up in the air

Published by Christian
Tags: Capcom, Viewtiful Joe, Wii

Christian Svensson, VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development over at Capcom, has given hope for fans wishing to see more Viewtiful Joe games. The Viewtiful Joe were developed by the now-dissolved Clover Studio, but Okami’s Wii release has shown us that Capcom can and will bring back Clover properties they deem worth their trouble.

There’s no ‘percentage chance’ that I could give you [Viewtiful Joe this generation] that would at all be accurate. If it strikes someone of influence (a producer of note, Inafune, Takeuchi, perhaps even me) that it’s something that has potential (both gameplay and sales) then it could happen. If not, it won’t. I can’t predict who might or might not see that potential.

I’m going to guess this came from Capcom’s forums, but I don’t have a direct source link to that at the moment. Regardless, it’d be interesting to find out exactly how many people want another Viewtiful Joe game.

Spyborgs is headed back to the shop

Published by Pete
Tags: Capcom, Spyborgs, Wii

Remember that quirky title Capcom unveiled a while back? The Wii exclusive that seemed to take a nod from Saturday morning cartoons and the recent super hero craze? Well it sounds like that may have been the last time anyone sees it in that form, as the game is undergoing what Christian Svensson of Capcom is calling a “significant overhaul”. Here’s what else he had to say:

You won’t see new assets for several more months. We’re refining it considerably (pretty much as significant an overhaul as Dark Void underwent from its first announcement to its first big reveal). I have seen a new build recently though… it’s coming along nicely. That’s all I’ll say about that for now.

Sounds like a good deal to me. One of my biggest pet peeves is when developers/producers allow games to hit the shelves before they are happy with them. I tip my hat to whoever made the decision at Capcom to make the changes. Svensson also confirmed that the game will include a local 2-player co-op option.

Mega Man 9 “box art” coming soon as t-shirts

Published by Christian
Tags: Box Art, Capcom, Mega Man 9, WiiWare

WiiWare games don’t exactly require the designing of box art, printing of manuals, or production of cardboard boxes with which to put the game cartridges into. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop Capcom USA from creating art reminiscent of the awful box art from the Mega Man series’ beginnings.

It was quickly decided by the marketing group that if we were going to release a game that looked like it came from 1987 that we should run the whole marketing campaign as if we were working in the games industry in 1987. From there, it was a very easy leap to putting in a call to I Am 8-bit artist Gerald de Jesus, who we [commissioned] to create the beautiful/horrible homage to past packaging Mega Man mindcrimes that you see above.

The image above is a photo of the super-limited edition t-shirts (1 of 4!) that we had created for Inafune-san and Takeshita-san to wear during E3. You should have seen people’s eyes light up when they saw this image emblazoned across Inafune-san’s chest… Capcom’s marketing team in the US is super-stoked that everyone is getting what we’re doing with the box art (including the Japanese dev team) and I promise you that we’ll have some t-shirts of this beauty available for purchase soon!

Interested? Hopefully I’ll be able to keep an eye out and let you know the instant these babies go on sale. Check out a larger view of the art after the break!

Capcom announces Dead Rising for the Wii

Published by Christian
Tags: Capcom, Dead Rising, Wii

In case you’re not satisfied with the amount of M-rated games available for the Wii, you might want to keep an eye on this one. Following the revelation that the Wii would receive a port of Keiji Inafune’s Dead Rising, Capcom officially announced the game today as Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop.

The port will use the Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition engine to make the port from non-waggle to waggle as easy as possible, and as quick as possible to allow for the game’s release this winter. You can read the press release after the break, and I’ll try to post screenshots…once I figure out how to put an age gate on this site…

Official Mega Man 9 artwork added

A few examples of Mega Man 9 artwork, including two sprites, one handdrawn Mega Man, and the game’s new logo, have been added after the break in high-res. Boy, that artwork sure looks familiar. It’s almost as if we’ve seen them before.
