There have been some amazing, edible creations that we’ve posted on this site, but this one takes the cake. Hannah couldn’t make up her mind as to the cake she wanted for her fourth birthday, so her parents played through Super Mario Galaxy with her to make the Galaxy cake all the more convincing. Several concept designs later, this beauty was ready to be cut up and eaten.

And just when you thought the cake looked complex enough, the masterpiece you see before you is loaded with Rice Krispes Treats, electrical wiring, motors, mp3 players, a heavy wooden frame, fiber optic lights, you name it… all for the most magical undertaking I’ve seen for anything intended to be gobbled up. I think I might just cry… both at the sheer beauty of the video footage after the break, and knowing where the remains of the cake now rest…

Nothing beats strawberries on a cake (unless it’s strawberries on an ice cream cake). Nevertheless, you can always one-up (pun intended) all the other strawberry covered cakes out there by making yours with a smile.

peewee_wm did just that. Granted, the smile is actually on the Mii gracing the top of the cake, but that doesn’t take anything away from the cake. There’s no better time than stuffing your face with… someone else’s face.

You get some pretty interesting celebrations for a child when the parents are gamers. Game cakes, Mario parties, you name it. Lori from Clever Cake Studio was given the job of creating cupcakes for a pair of game loving parents for their baby shower, creating the Pikmin cupcakes you see above.

Originally, the marzipan Pikmin were supposed to be smaller and buried in the cupcakes (like in the games), but Lori went with the designs that didn’t involve sticking wires inside the tasty Pikmin. I’m pretty sure no one minded the change, just so long as they got to play Bulborbs and devour all those delicious Pikmin one by one.

I’m not sure why video game themed cakes are all the rage right now (besides the fact that they are awesome), but everything from Super Mario Bros. to Zelda to Super Smash Bros. has sprung up as a sugary tribute.

That being said, this latest confectionery contraption, which launched alongside Mario Kart Wii at one lucky couple’s wedding, blows away the competition. Don’t get me wrong, the other cakes are all amazing in their own right, but the level of detail put into this cake is unprecedented. Characters are driving specific karts. Rainbow Road is rainbowed. Peach is even giving Mario a little peck on the nose. More pictures outlining the finer points of this gravity defying work of art after the break.
