Gaming music is often as iconic as the game’s themselves.  Sometimes, the music stays with you longer than the experience of actually playing the game.  A noodle company felt that the Bubble Bobble theme song was so catchy, they decided to use it for their commercials.  And they added lyrics! Sung by South Korean pop group Girls Generation, you can’t argue that the song has hit potential.

Taito actually gave permission to the company to use the song.

The latest Famitsu magazine has new details on the upcoming Bubble Bobble WiiWare game that was announced a few months ago. It will be a remake of the NES classic (which is currently available on the Virtual Console) with 100 old stages, 100 new stages, and harder versions of each. Two packs of 50 DLC stages will also be released at 200 points a pop. The game will support up to 4 players simultaneously. I guess Bub and Bob will be joined by Bib and Bab this time around. (Anyone up for a game of Bibble Babble?) Bubble Bobble Wii is expected later this year in Japan (and hopefully North America) for 800 Wii Points.

After an explosion of new Wii and DS announcements the other day, Nintendo released a list of no fewer than 50 games planned for WiiWare in Japan. Most of them have confusing moonspeak names that make no sense to silly English-speaking people, and a few have already been released in North America, but two games stand out. It seems that Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Island are coming to WiiWare. Making up Taito’s list of upcoming WiiWare games are Bubble Bobble Wii and Rainbow Island Tower. Exciting news for oldschool NES gamers, indeed. People who are in their 20s (or older) and aren’t afraid to play a game starring baby dinosaurs squirting bubbles at wind-up toys. 

There’s not much else to say about either game at this point, besides the names. Expect more news when it becomes available.
