Coming this September, 2K Games is set to release a new add-on for Borderlands, the fourth since the game’s debut. Entitled ClapTrap’s Robot Revolution, the downloadable chapter adds a dearth of new content, including 20 missions, 3 additional back pack slots, 10 more skill points (bringing your total to 71) and of course endless hours of “seamless” single and multiplayer FPS RPG entertainment. In ClapTrap’s Robot Revolution, your vault hunter seeks to cash in by setting aside their differences with the Hyperion Corporation in order to stifle a robot uprising lead by a nunchuk wielding Ninja Assassin.

First zombies, now robots and ninjas? We can only assume pirates are next. Pick this ClapTrap’s Robot Revolution for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points when it hits PS3, PC, and XBOX 360.

Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution invites single-player and co-op fans back to try to suppress a deadly Claptrap revolution using one of four infamous vault hunters. The foursome find themselves caught in the crosshairs of a deadly civil war between the Hyperion Corporation’s well-armed armadas and the ever-amassing army of homicidal Claptraps led by one of the most eagerly awaited characters in the franchise’s history – the cunning Ninja Assassin. As vault hunters, players must put aside their past differences with the Hyperion Corporation, namely the organization’s repeated attempts to wipe them from existence. For a hefty payday, they will join forces to help beat down the mechanical uprising and thwart the dastardly kung-fu expert, the Claptrap known only as Ninja Assassin.

Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution will provide more than 20 new missions to loot and tons of fresh enemies to blast through, including original boss battles, waves of homicidal Claptraps, well-armed Hyperion soldiers, and local creatures that have been Claptrap-ified – including crab-traps, rakk-traps and skag-trapps. Fans can earn an additional 10 skill points for a total of 71 available skill tree points, and three more backpack slots for additional blood-yielding weapons and many hours of enjoyment.

Borderlands is available now for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Games for Windows-LIVE and is rated PEGI 18. As previously reported, a special disc with the first two Borderlands expansions, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot and The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned, is on it’s way from 2K Games. Not previously reported was the just-announced release date of April 6. Also of note is 2K’s decision to exclude the PS3 from this release, making the $20 disc only available for XBOX 360 and PC. No specific reason was mentioned for the exclusion, but given the content’s availability on PSN, I’m sure you PS3 players aren’t losing any sleep over it!

Yesterday, details from the Take-Two quarterly financial call bore buttloads of bad news: multiple game delays, most notably Red Dead Redemption. However, buried away deep was a glimmer of positive: the bright future for Borderlands DLC. Said president and CEO Ben Feder:

“The Secret Armory of General Knoxx has been the highest scoring and best received in the series, which illustrates the ongoing strength of this new franchise…We’ll continue to support the title with more add-on content, and our approach to digital content for Borderlands gives us a road map for other titles going forward.”

Last month’s The Secret Armory Of General Knoxx both increased the level cap and added tons of new options for weaponry, so its no surprise that its the most popular of the three add-ons released thus far. Where could the next Borderlands DLC chapter take us?

Well, what a pleasant little surprise. I personally haven’t bought any Borderlands DLC yet (yet!) but if the price is nice, I could go for the disc. Due out next month in Europe, the Borderlands DLC disc will include two of the three chapters released thus far: The Zombie Island of Doctor and Ned and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot. Sadly, there are no plans to include the newest DLC chapter, The Secret Armory Of General Knoxx, which you’ll still have to purchase through LIVE.

There is no word on price and so far only PC and XBOX 360 availability been mentioned. The initial report also lacks a US release date, but with how lucrative the Borderlands DLC has been for 2K Games thus far, I’m sure we’ll be hearing something about Stateside release soon.

While the Borderlands DLC chapter The Secret Armory Of General Knoxx actually debuted two days ago on XBOX 360, today’s release on PS3 and PC rounds out the rest of the group. Now all three platforms can enjoy a litany of new content, from an increased level cap (up to 61), to new vehicles, 30 new types of new villains (with smarter AI!), and a brand new class of rare, super powerful weapons.

The Secret Armory of General Knoxx is priced at 800 Microsoft points, or $9.99 on PSN.

I think anyone who plays either RPGs or FPS could appreciate this one, even if they’re not a Borderlands player!  Details are vague, but we do know that The Secret Armory of General Knoxx will add more weapons, new enemies, a new area to explore, and “new challenges and opportunities for growth for characters from around level 34 to 50.”, whatever that means.  No other information is available yet but stay tuned!

Well, the new cinematic trailer for Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot is out…and boy does it leave an impression. The impression that, if you’ll pardon my language, Moxxi is one crazy, ruthless b!tch. Which is just how I like ‘em. I’m also digging the whole Nightmare Before Christmas thing she has goin’ on with her outfit. What’dya say, Moxxi, wanna move to Vermont and make me your #4?

Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, the second chapter in Borderlands DLC, features the titular (tee hee) widow as she battles her boredom by sending hordes of baddies your way in a new gameplay mode known as “Riot”. The XBOX 360 version is available on Live December 29th, the PS3 is up on PSN January 7th. No official date on the PC version but it is expected some time in January.

The next slab of Borderlands DLC is already coming up, and this time it includes a whole new mode to play. Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, due December 29th for XBOX 360 and January 7th for PSN, adds three new “Riot Mode” arenas that boast a single or cooperative player experience. Competitors work together against a slew of Pandora’s toughest baddies as they fight for loot and glory. More importantly, the package also adds a new “bank” feature that allows you to store weapons. With that feature alone, it should definitely be worth the 800 points on Live, or $9.99 on PSN.

No date or price announced yet on PC release.

My fellow PC users, rejoice! The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned, the Borderlands bonus content that was released at the end of November for XBOX 360 and PS3 players, is finally available for us nerdy computer using types.

Borderlands had slipped down a few notches on my Christmas list due to the PC delay of the DLC. Now I can comfortably move it back up to my top five. Whew. Now where to put Left 4 Dead 2? Sigh.

“Fastest selling new IP of 2009″ Borderlands has a new expansion, available now! Entitled The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, the chapter is available for download via Microsoft’s XBOX Live and Sony’s PSN.

The storyline features Dr. Ned, a scientist given the task of keeping Jakob Cove’s workers alive. When his experiments go awry, leaving the Cove filled with vicious zombies, its the player’s task to work alongside him until they find a cure. The expansion will include new quests, new enemies, and new rare loot. Says president of 2K, Christoph Hartman:

“We are very excited to present fans of the highly acclaimed Borderlands with the first expansion. The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned presents a bold new storyline that entertains and excites, and simultaneously ensures that fans still receive the same great gameplay experience that made the original game a success.”

Now is it just me, or does the timing of this DLC have “originally unfinished content” written all over it? I could be wrong. DLC is getting so popular these days that its entirely possible that they created this alongside the game for a staggered release only one month after the game’s debut. But, as my programmer friend put it, “knowing developers, probably not”.

Ah well, I shouldn’t complain. There are worse things in this world than another chapter in one of the best games of the year. Now if they could just get a PC release date, I’d be all set! Be sure to check out our gallery of  The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned screens.
