2K Games has announced the last in a wave of downloadable content for Bioshock 2. Entitled Minerva’s Den, it differs from the latest batches of Bioshock 2 DLC in that it’s hailed as a narrative drive experience for single player (whereas past chapters have been for multiplayer) that will “conclude the Bioshock 2 saga”. Says Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K Games:

“Minerva’s Den is a substantial addition that will give players more of what they’re looking for: more story, more narrative, more gameplay and more of Rapture. The core team has created an exciting product that further enhances the mystery and allure of the world of Rapture. Minerva’s Den will be a fitting conclusion to the BioShock 2 saga.”

The gameplay puts you in the shoes of a new character while you explore the previously-unseen Rapture Central Computing, a district that promises to help you uncover the dark secrets hidden in its founder’s past, all while wielding new weapons and battling new enemies. Thursday 5th August/… 2K Games announced today Minerva’s Den*, an all-new single-player focused downloadable game add-on for BioShock^® 2 that introduces new characters, locations and mystery to the fiction-rich world of Rapture. In development for the Xbox 360^® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation^®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows-LIVE, Minerva’s Den is a self-contained narrative experience that puts players in the role of an all-new character who has teamed up with Brigid Tenenbaum to unravel a dictator’s stranglehold on a key district in the distinctive city under the sea.

Last week at GDC, Nintendo’s COO Reggie Fils-Aime spoke with Industry Gamers about Nintendo’s capabilities as a leading developer. Fils-Aime commented that the company is “not good” at creating core experiences for the Wii. More mature gaming experiences, titles such as Bioshock 2, just aren’t Nintendo’s thing.

The fact of the matter is we know we create great content for younger consumers. We know we’ve got great content for more casual players, and we want fantastic content for that more active player who loves Metroid or Zelda, but maybe also wants something like a BioShock 2 to play as well. And we also recognize that we don’t create that type of content ourselves. We’re not good at it and it’s not a key focus area. We want that content on our platform, so we have to court third-party developers and encourage them to make [those titles].

Despite acknowledging  their unwillingness to create more core experiences, it’s great that Nintendo has been consistent at showing how much they need and want third party support for the console. I’d prefer Nintendo continue creating their near-flawless gaming experiences, as continuously do, and leave the hardcore titles to the third party developers.

As mentioned earlier today, Bioshock 2 has a new downloadable add-on coming out next week. The DLC affects multiplayer and adds a healthy list of new features, including a raised level cap, and new playable characters. These images show off said characters in the menu (Louie McGraff and Oscar Calraca, respectively), with a screen capture of newbie Oscar in-game, seen above.

The Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack, Bioshock 2‘s first DLC, will be available March 11 for 400 Microsoft points, or $4.99 on PSN.

2K Games has announced the official date for Bioshock 2 multiplayer DLC Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack. The add-on, which adds five masks, 20 new trials, a third weapons upgrade, and two new playable characters, in addition to upping the level cap to 50, will be priced at 400 Microsoft points, or $4.99 on PSN. The content will be available starting March 11.

This is only the first in a series of  add-ons for Bioshock 2, as 2K Games promises more in the upcoming weeks. The next is expected to affect single player, but both single player and multiplayer will have more downloadable content in near future.

That’s right, Bioshock 2 will have new content released sometime next month. Entitled Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, the DLC will be released on PC, XBOX 360, and PS3 and focus mainly on the multiplayer experience. New characters, named Louie McGraff and Oscar Calraca, will be added, as well as 20 new trials, a third weapon upgrade, and five additional masks. Rank will also be raised to 50. The content will be priced at 400 Microsoft points, or $4.99.

Monday 22nd February/…2K Games announced today an aggressive post-launch downloadable content plan for BioShock®2 that extends and enhances the single and multiplayer experiences by adding more glimpses into the award-winning world of Rapture. Downloadable content will be made available soon, beginning with the Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, available this March from the Xbox® LIVE Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows–LIVE for 400 Microsoft Points and from the PlayStation®Network for £3.19. Future expansions into the world of BioShock 2 are slated to arrive over the coming months and will continue to expand on the stories of the denizens of Rapture.

“The fans who waited in the snow, rain and cold for the midnight launch of BioShock 2 have spoken and their message is that Rapture still has many fascinating stories to tell,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Downloadable content is a key part of our efforts to continue to entice the fans that have made 2K a household name – we intend to deliver single and multiplayer content that respects and expands upon one of the greatest fictional worlds ever created.”

Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, the first of several planned downloadable packages, contains a number of customization features that will allow players to further their character’s development in BioShock 2’s multiplayer modes and provide a deeper multiplayer experience. The pack includes:

• Rank Increase to level 50 with Rank Rewards
• New playable characters Louie McGraff and Oscar Calraca
• 20 new trials*
• A third weapon upgrade for each weapon
• Five additional masks*
*Some items are only available after a player achieves a rank of 41 or higher.

In the coming months, 2K Games will also be publishing downloadable extensions of the single player experience that provide new insight into the world of Rapture. These packages will include more narrative, new tools and new challenges that extend the lore and fiction of the failed Utopia under the sea.
