Nathan Spencer and Arthur join Marvel vs Capcom 3

Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is truly shaping up to be the Smash Bros. of the Marvel and Capcom properties. It seems both companies are digging deep in their respective vaults to bring a truly diverse lineup when the game ships this spring.

At New York Comic Con today, Capcom has announced two new players to join the fight. In one corner, from Bionic Commando fame enters Nathan “Rad” Spencer. In the next corner, from Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins, comes Sir Arthur.

Grapple (and jump) with new Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 trailer

Get ready to grapple across new 2D worlds when Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 releases in early 2011. Capcom originally revealed the sidescrolling arcade title at their Captivate 2010 event a few months ago. Now, a brand new trailer debuted at E3 shows off Rearmed 2 in action.

Join Nathan Spencer as he works to take down General Sabio. You’ll have new weapons, new levels, and now the ability to jump. Yes, folks. You can now jump!

Bionic Commando 2 also confirmed at Capcom Captivate event

News of another Capcom sequel has now leaked, thanks to website PlanetXbox360. Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is set to launch later this year. The game is a follow up to the PSN, XBLA and PC first Rearmed title, developed by GRIN. Both titles are next-gen side scrolling remakes of the original NES 8-bit classic, Bionic Commando.

As we mentioned earlier, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has also been rumored to have been shown at the event. Both titles were first debuted at last week’s private Capcom Captivate event held in Hawaii. Official confirmation of these titles could come as early as tomorrow, when the press embargo is lifted. Until then, consider these confirmations are highly likely rumors.

It’s great that Capcom is continuing with Bionic Commando in 2D side scrolling fashion. Rearmed was a much better title than the 3D 2009 game.

Bionic Commando on the cheap

Gamers who appreciate a good deal, and have an affinity for old school reboots are going to love this deal. NewEgg currently has Capcom’s Bionic Commando for the Xbox 360, for a price of $6.99. Best of all, the title comes with free shipping.

Despite mixed reviews, a $7 video game is a hard thing to pass up, considering $50 to $60 is the average going rate of software these days.

I may just swing on this deal myself!

Dead Rising and MotoGP make up stellar Capcom line up

Capcom needs to work on their press release headings. I read “Resident Evil^® 5, Street Fighter^® IV, Bionic Commando^®, Dead Rising^TM: Chop Till You Drop, FLOCK! and MotoGP^TM for Wii^TM Ready to Dominate the Console World” as being some megaton announcement for Wii owners. And then I read the rest of the release.

Still, it’s a good day when Dead Rising gets a firm release date for the Wii – you’ll be buying it on February 27th. If you insist on not chopping till your drop, MotoGP will also be available for Wii owners sometime in the middle of May. This is, of course, on top of the automatic purchases of Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV, since some of us just don’t want to believe Jill is really dead. Or worse – the epitomy of “dead rising” in a game about zombies.

Capcom discusses Wii versions of Bionic Commando Rearmed and Street Fighter

Capcom VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development Christian Svensson took a few questions regarding Bionic Commando and Street Fighter on Capcom’s forums recently. When one user stated that Street Fighter II HD Remix would be possible as a WiiWare game, Svensson had this to say:

It couldn’t ever be Wiiware, even at 480p. File size is just too large given the storage restrictions for Wiiware. Theoretically it could be disc based but there are no plans at the moment. We’ll see how it does on its current platforms and then maybe we’ll see.

In the meantime, there are three different versions of Street Fighter II on the Virtual Console for Wii-owning Street Fighter fans. You can even download the whole soundtrack for free (and completely legally, of course) from OCRemix.org.

With regards to a Wii version of Street Fighter IV:

In theory, with reasonable downgrades in visual quality including resolution reduction, yes. I will still raise the question: what’s the input mechanism for a Wiimote + nunchuck (which is what 100% of the installed base has) on a Street Fighter title?

Maybe ask everyone who buys SNES or N64 Virtual Console games.

Finally, when asked whether Bionic Commando Rearmed could be released either on WiiWare or as a disc-based retail game, Svensson gave this reply:

Again, it would never fit in the Wiiware filesize so it would have to be disc based and you’d basically have to redo everything for Wii. It would not be an inexpensive process and I’m not sure the result would be completely satisfactory. I think you underestimate how technically advanced BCR is. It’s built on the same engine as the big BC is.

Part of the reason HD Remix and BCR are digital is because we don’t believe they’re the right content for the retail channel (at least, not as stand alone experiences). The economics would be highly unfavorable as compared to their digital counterparts. And Wiiware, we’re finding, only works for titles built from the ground up for Wiiware as the lead SKU given the filesize restrictions.

It would be nice of Nintendo would go ahead and release the NES version of Bionic Commando on the Virtual Console. Hear that, Nintendo? You have your orders. I expect to see it next week.
