You’ve had Rock Band 3 for several weeks now, but you’re still waiting for the chance to rock out for real. Well, it seems like your only option to do so will now take you to Best Buy’s checkout counter.

In addition to opening up exclusive pre-sales today at BestBuy.com, the retailer will be come the exclusive retailer for the Squier Stratocaster guitar controller when it comes to stores on March 1st. The six-stringed guitar controllers will retail for a cool $280 and require the MIDI PRO-Adaptor (sold separately) in order to play with Rock Band 3.

Best Buy is the exclusive pre-seller of the Rock Band 3 Squier® by Fender® Stratocaster® Guitar Controller”.

Beginning on December 15, the pre sale will be available on both dotcom (www.bestbuy.com/rockband3) and in stores.

With initiatives like offering game trade-ins at select stores, and competitive pricing, many gamers are choosing the blue and yellow chain over its competitors. Either a second Wii price cut is imminent, or online retailers are just competing for business. Another Wii price cut has been spotted on a couple of websites, a trend that may continue for weeks to come. The original white Wii console, bundled with Wii Sports, is now being sold for $149.99.

How could the original console compete after all, compared to the new black Wii debuting with Wii Sports, Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort for just $199.99.

Price cuts for the original bundle have been spotted at Best Buy and Amazon’s online stores. Now is the time to get your hands on that Wii, if you haven’t yet.

The anti-Mario Kart is upon us, in demo form anyway. Activision’s just released racing title Blur has been available for purchase, and as a demo on Xbox Live. But if you prefer your game impressions to be determined in an open warehouse size retail store setting, then you’re in luck. Over 200 Best Buy locations will be equipped with Blur demo stations between Saturday and Sunday of this weekend. This should bode well for the title’s sales, having players experience the high action title in stores, then feeling the urge to purchase it and continue playing at home.

The game shakes up the traditional racing title with the use of power-ups. Like WipEout, players will race against opponents, with the ability to shoot, shock or blow up other players.

As you probably realized, Super Mario Galaxy 2 released Sunday morning to eager fans across the country. While midnight launch events were few and far between, a Best Buy in Los Angeles, California hosted one, with a very special guest in attendance. That’s right folks, Mario!

The man himself took a break from his galactic adventures to pose with fans, and even did a little dancing to the music that played by the event’s sponsor, radio station KISS-FM.

Based on nothing but my selfish desires to purchase Super Mario Galaxy 2 as early as possible, I decided to call up a few local GameStop locations around the Los Angeles area. To my surprise, all of them are passing on the idea of hosting a midnight launch in favor of an early morning release. I was told that management simply didn’t think “a bunch of kids” were going to be waiting in line at midnight for a Mario game. Ah.

Instead, some GameStop locations will be opening at 9am to release Mario’s next adventure, but waiting almost a year since the game’s official reveal, a few more hours just wasn’t good enough for me.

Upon researching, it appears some Best Buy locations are actually hosting midnight launch events for Galaxy 2. In fact, one local Best Buy location is even giving away prizes, such as Mario cinch sacks and Mario cell art, all night to those standing in line. With a little finesse (actually just canceling and re-preordering the game) I was able to switch my preorder to a nearby Best Buy. Mario is as good as mine at midnight!

The past two decades haven’t been so great for paper. The print industry is on a 20 year decline. The technological age has been blamed for the folding or Internet/print hybridization of various publications, including Rocky Mountain News and the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Think this is a good time to start new print media? Best Buy does! Their upcoming new magazine, @Gamer, has been outed by a number of employees (and noted by The Game Beat), and is expected for a June launch.

Now the question: will this be a serious endeavor, with content that the average gamer can both enjoy and respect? Or will it be just a lot of pretty pictures and suspiciously high review scores? That remains yet to be seen.

This holiday season has been stellar for gaming deals, and the reduced prices are stopping any time soon.  Best Buy is now listing Final Night: Round 4 for just $14.99.  That’s quite a steal for anyone who has waited on picking up the title. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are on sale, but something tells me this deal won’t last too long.

FYI: During Game Trailer’s coverage of the Video Game Awards pre-show online, Mike Tyson revealed that not only does he love the game, but his character of choice is Joe Frazier.

This is one of those “OK yeah duh of course they’re gonna do this now” moments. A scanned Best Buy ad from their Black Friday deals reveals two DSi bundles for $169: a white DSi with three  Brain Age Express titles, Clubhouse Games and Photo Clock and a dark metallic blue DSi with Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, WarioWare: Snapped, Dr. Mario Express, Mario Calculator and Mario Clock.

While the bundles don’t have the right games in the right combination for my tastes (I’d prefer Brain Age, Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again, and Dr. Mario Express in one kit) this still could be a killer deal for the right person. At the very least it one of the first moves in a new (very welcome) era of cartridge-free gaming. Could one day all the major consoles include a game…already downloaded and ready to go? It’d save the materials and the financial risk of printing games that might not ultimately sell, so there’s definitely a benefit from a publisher’s point of view. And I already have to stack milk crates in my living room (you didn’t think that was for aesthetics, did you?) just to have room for all my games. I for one welcome our new cartridge-free overlords.

The only thing better than a “buy two get one free” game sale is a cross-console “buy two get one free” sale! This scan of an upcoming Best Buy ad reveals an upcoming bargain from Best Buy that allows you to mix and match your titles, so long as they’re $59.99 and under. The sale starts October 25 and lasts for a week.

In preparation of replacing the DS Download Stations at Best Buy stores, the consumer electronics giant is testing out new “Nintendo Zone” kiosks in San Francisco, Redmond, Seattle, and two locations in Minnesota. The Nintendo Zones will reportedly provide demos and previews for popular and upcoming Wii and DS games, Best Buy sales statistics, and a Wi-Fi connection allowing DSi users to browse and shop for DSiWare titles.

I’m curious to know how many people use the DS Download Stations / Nintendo Zones. Obviously, we informed gamers probably get our demos and downloads from our Wii consoles or home Wi-Fi connection. Are the “casual” consumers (or their kids) really bringing their DS handhelds into Best Buy stores in large numbers?

This has got to be the best thing since moving walkways.

You’re traveling along through an airport, DS packed, ready to get an hour or two with some games you’ve already been playing for years. For people like us, Best Buy has placed vending machines in airports ready to spit out Guitar Hero: On Tour, Brain Age 2, Mario Kart DS, and more. If you don’t have a DS, well, that’s a sha… wait, they sell those too!
