Starting tomorrow, Wii console owners will get first dibs on the first track pack for Band Hero, aptly titled Band Hero: 1 Track Pack. The pack will include Miley Cyrus’ “7 Things,” Selena Gomez and The Scene’s “Falling Down,” and Demi Lovato’s “Here We Go Again.” Now you get to gloat about jamming out to your favorite teen stars’ songs long before your Xbox or PlayStation friends.

Other consoles will have access to the track pack next week. Check out the track pack’s official trailer to see the Disney chicks in action.

Despite being a big Aerosmith fan, I wasn’t thrilled with Activision’s release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Thankfully, some of Aerosmith’s greatest tracks have been released as DLC for Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero, with three songs available this month. “Livin’ on the Edge,” “Love in an Elevator,” and “Rag Doll” will all debut for download as part of the Aerosmith Track Pack on May 18th.

Other new tracks set to release this month include Foreigner’s classic tune “Juke Box Hero,” Steve Miller Band’s “Take the Money and Run,” and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama.”

No surprises there. Activision is now countersuing No Doubt for having the audacity to sue them. OK, not according to Activision, of course. But that’s what it comes off like.

Many of you will remember not too long ago when No Doubt filed a suit against Activision for the use of their avatar in the game Band Hero. Apparently, they felt they’d been misled on how the avatar would be used, and were upset that the band could be split up, or that certain members could perform other artists’ songs. Fast forward to now.

The Hollywood Reporter has dug up a countersuit on the part of Activision that accuses No Doubt of not living up to the part of their contract that requires them to promote the game. Now, they don’t mention any specific events or times when No Doubt was supposed to have promoted the game, but they may consider the lawsuit filed to be the opposite of promotion, which would make them in breach of contract.

Now here’s the really rotten part. As if taking advantage of all encompassing legal documents weren’t enough, they’re suing for damages, for lawyer’s fees, and everything they paid No Doubt for use of their image. In other words, they not only want No Doubt to cover the fees incurred, but they now also want their performance for free for the trouble.

Poor form, Activision. How can you expect any new artists to sign on with you if you’re going to behave like this? Damages and lawyer’s fees are one thing, but their pay, too? Shame on you.

Fans of Gene Simmons, 80s rock, and men in makeup will be happy to know that the KISS Track Pack is officially headed to Guitar Hero 5 and the newly released Band Hero.  Tracks “Modern Day Delilah,” “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” and the classic “Lick It Up” are included in the pack.

In celebration of all things KISS, the band also announced that they’ll be streaming their Wednesday November 25th concert from the Staples Center at 9PST online. Fans can catch the concert from a Ustream link via the KISS Facebook page.

The KISS Track Pack is available now on Xbox LIVE (440 Microsoft Points), PSN ($5.49) and Wii Shop Channel (500 Nintendo Points).

Those Activision contracts must have one heck of a tiny print section.

As many of you will remember, a few months ago Courtney Love threatened to sue Activision over the use of Kurt Cobain’s image in Guitar Hero 5. While she had agreed to allow Kurt’s likeness to be used, she had not realized that his “avatar”  could be used to perform a number of songs in the Band Hero catalogue, a move that both she and rival Dave Grohl agreed was disrespectful of her late husband. (And who could blame ‘em. There’s something just wrong about Kurt Cobain playing Bon Jovi.)

Well, Ms. Love is no longer alone on the issue. No Doubt is seeking an injunction and suing for damages over Activision’s Band Hero. Apparently they are upset that the band’s image can be used to play any of the songs featured in the game, and that the band’s members can be split up and placed randomly in any of the performances, which they contend violates the contract.

Activision for their part has responded:

“Some of the world’s most popular and iconic artists have been featured in Guitar Hero as playable characters, and we are proud to count No Doubt among them. Activision has a written agreement to use No Doubt in Band Hero – an agreement signed by No Doubt after extensive negotiations with its representatives, who collectively have decades of experience in the entertainment industry. Pursuant to that agreement, Activision worked with No Doubt and the band’s management in developing Band Hero. As a result, Activision believes it is within its legal rights with respect to the use and portrayal of the band members in the game and that this lawsuit is without merit. Activision is exploring its own legal options with respect to No Doubt’s obligations under the agreement.”

In other words, “You signed the contract, nyah nyah.” We’ll see if anything comes of this lawsuit in the months ahead.

Starting November 5th, music game lovers will be able to get a whole lot more bang for their buck.  Activision has announced they’ll allow the transfer of a bulk of the songs from Guitar Hero 5 to be imported into Band Hero.  Additionally, a large amount of songs from Band Hero can be transferred right to your GH5 library.  By simply paying the re-licensing fee (about $5) the import is done by entering a code that comes with the game.

Activision has announced a whole slew of new Hero games, both Guitar and other. For starters, they’ve finally confirmed what everyone has known for months. Guitar Hero Van Halen is in the works, and will be released some time later this year. When asked for a comment regarding which era of Van Halen music would be the center of attention, Activisions Senior Vice President of Global Brand Management said “Oh this is definitely Van Halen, not Van Hagar.” That’s good to hear.

Also coming at no surprise, Guitar Hero 5 is also in the works for this year. Few features have been revealed, but the game will allow players to drop in and out of songs or switch instruments or difficulty at any time.

But wait, there’s more! Activision also announced two brand new non-Guitar Hero games.

Band Hero will be a family friendly take on Guitar Hero, with an E 10+ rating and a set list of Top 40 hits. It sounds like Band Hero will be easier than the Guitar Hero games and will be Activision’s response to LEGO Rock Band.

Finally, DJ Hero has finally been announced. The controller pictured above will be used to create custom mixes of existing songs across a variety of genres, such as R&B and electronica. It will be interesting to see where this one goes.
