It’s technically still winter, so get a Yoshi scarf!

Normally, you don’t associate spring break with hobby knitting of scarves. That’s what Etsy member shadowsinthenyte was up to though, and she managed to successfully create one of these Yoshi scarves after a single try! The tongue is a whopping 72″ long (or 6′, for those of you who can’t divide in the morning) of crocheted acrylic yarn, and apparently these babies are for sale on her Etsy page. Pick one up for just $45 – I’m sure by buying one this early, you’ll avoid the pre-winter price hikes!

Poison mushroom a 1-down for Mario

Throughout time, Mario’s always used mushrooms to his advantage. However, he can forget about saving the princess with this thing in his possession.

This evil, blood spewing exorcist fungi looks like it was thrown up by Satan himself. Either that, or this is a preview of what Tim Burton would do if he took over the Mario franchise.

In actuality, this little shroom was created out of those little 1-up mushroom candy tins you may find at an Urban Outfitters or Five Below.

Still, it’s as creepy as a mushroom can get. Who knows, maybe this is how Mario reached his demise.

Mario pops up in a California grocery store

Last year, I helped out in hosting a junior high solo & ensemble band contest, which provides fundraising opportunities through selling refreshments, among other things. We collected dozens and dozens of boxes of pop cans donated by parents, and we stashed them all in a back room until contest day. I tried organizing everything by brand and in such a way that it was still easy to walk around the room… but had I seen this picture, I would have done something similar instead.

Yep, that’s a bunch of 12-pack boxes of pop, or “soda” as FAIL Blog calls it, at the Safeway in Rohnert Park, CA. Obviously, it’s a pretty awesome display, but I wonder how sales went. I’d imagine most people wouldn’t want to take from such a creative work, but I can see some idiot trying to get one of the Mug boxes in the bottom left.

So, what do you think? …Is it “pop” or “soda” or something else?

“Game Over’ art means the end of Mario

To many, the artwork you see beside this post may just be too painful to even look at. It brings up a rush of emotions, feelings we can’t even conceive as being a reality. I mean, Mario can’t die, right?

Artist Kordian Lewandwski created a sculpture of Princess Peach holding a helpless, deceased Mario. The piece, titled “Game Over” is constructed out of polystyrene foam, and was inspired by Michelangelo’s La Pieta, a sculpture which shows Mary holding a lifeless Jesus post crucifixion.

Looks like Bowser may have finally won his battle, in art form anyway. Somewhere, Microsoft and Sony fanboys are sadly applauding this.

Felt Candygeist ornament just a one-off for now

I’m a fan of all of the video game related ornaments that have been coming out recently. I’m particularly fond of the one above, even if it’s impossible to get ahold of and based on a character from a yet-unreleased game. The other day, a tweet came in from KDV Games, makers of the upcoming DS title, CandyGeist, showing off this adorable felt creation. I poked at them a little bit to find out that this is just a one-off for now, made by the lead programmer’s wife and headed for a company tree. They are planning to make more, and even suggested that they may be available for purchase one of these days, which I would certainly like to see. CandyGeist looks to be the sort of game that could attract a devoted cult following, with its bizarre theme and cute pixel art – classy merch like felt ghosts seems like a perfect fit for the title.

This baby means business

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m terrified of children. Well, not all children, just babies. Something about them just produces this deep rooted primal fear that gurgles up from my stomach and causes my heart to pound. Not sure why it happens, I have never had a bad baby experience, no toddlers have toddled away with my wallet or soft-spotted me in the shins. But yet the fear grows.

Now I think I understand, having seen this ridiculously awesome baby shower present. I must be Ganon, and have been awaiting the birth of this new Hero. It’s just a theory, but I’m about 60/40 it’s true. Now if you’ll excuse me I must go work on evil things. More pictures after the break. Be sure to check out the bottle quiver.

Here’s the full outfit, hand knitted in all it’s glory. That cute little belt buckle and arrow quiver are spot on.

To make this better, this blanket was included too.

A Boy and his delicious looking Blob

Just when I thought Wayforward’s remake of A Boy and His Blob couldn’t possibly get any cuter, Flickr user Appy went and molded a rendition from Sculpey polymer clay.

The models are startlingly accurate, and if they catch the light just right the Blob looks an awful lot like a Peep. A soft, sugary, delicious Peep, just waiting to be snatched up by yours truly some kid and gobbled down. Only 263 days until Easter!

Happy belated Birthday Game Boy!

It’s official! Game Boy is out of it’s teens and 20 years old (and 2 days to be exact). I know this is old news now, but the birthday totally snuck up on me this year. In order to celebrate (and stay out of the dog house), I created this commemorative Tetris themed glass to bring to the party. Because, surely the Game Boy wouldn’t have reached such heights without the timeless puzzler.

Just think, in another year the Game Boy will move the move out of Jimmy’s grubby hands in the back seat of the minivan and into the bars! Watch out! There are bigger photos of the glass on my etsy page.

1-up your neighbor’s tree with some Mario decorations

So maybe you don’t want to put a Triforce on your tree. You want something a little more traditional, yet fun and unique. How bout a Starman? Or some super or 1-up mushroom tree ornaments? Maybe some goomba shoe stockings for the kids?

Scoochmaroo has put together a guide featuring a collect of his favorite DIY, gamer-themed holiday decorations. Granted, your tree is probably all set to go for Christmas by now, but luckily none of these projects take too long to add that extra something. Who knows, maybe it will inspire you to go above and beyond next year.

Fraser Valley students stick it to Mario 3

I get buried in emails on a daily basis, but every so often I manage to sludge through them and find a diamond in the rough. What you’re looking at it is a 17,000 push-pin mosaic mural, a product of three revisions and a total of two and a half semesters of work. The final revision took a whopping two months of work by the CIS Student Association at the University of the Fraser Valley, and it’s currently sitting in the Student Computing Center over there.

You’d think I’d be able to relate to these college kids, but I can’t even remember when I’ve had enough free time to do something so crafty! You can check past the break for a few more photos, but be sure to check out Ranadok’s Flickr profile for more. Thanks to Robert for the heads up!
