Dr. Mario given a title, price, and date

Published by Christian under WiiWare

080508drmario1.jpgI had to hold off on downloading the Nintendo Channel for a whole 24 hours while my Wii sat packed in a box, ready to head home from college. In the meantime, some keen eyes have already caught some new information popping up on the new channel.

It looks like Dr. Mario’s debut on WiiWare won’t be titled Dr. Mario’s Virus Buster or Dr. Mario & Bacteria Extermination, as translated from its original Japanese title, Dr. Mario & Saikin Bokumetsu. Instead, the new title looks to be Dr. Mario Online RX, and it’ll cost you $10 (1000 Wii Points) on WiiWare’s launch this Monday.

$10 for another Dr. Mario game? Even in the Mushroom Kingdom, it looks like medical doctors are raking it in.

Some WiiWare launch titles confirmed

Published by Robert under WiiWare

wiiware-banner.jpg

Not too sure if you guys have noticed this or not, but if you select “What’s WiiWare?” in the just launched Nintendo Channel it gives you five titles — one of which is priced — that will be available at launch. The five titles are:

Dr. MARIO Online RX (1,000 points)
Lost Winds
Defend your Castle
Critter Round-Up
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronices: My Life as a King

The video concludes with a message saying that WiiWare is launching on May 12th. Thanks, Nintendo, for indirectly confirming some of your U.S. WiiWare launch titles. We are eternally grateful.

Protothea flies onto WiiWare

Published by Pete under WiiWare

protothea.jpg

Ubisoft has announced that it is bringing its PC shooter from 2005 over to WiiWare. No pricing details have been revealed, but the game is expected to land right around the launch of the service. The Wii version will utilize the Wiimote and Nunchuk (obviously), and separates itself from most shooters by giving the enemies a little AI to move them out of predictable patterns and change the experience every time you play. I happen to like patterns. If you’re like me and this doesn’t suit your fancy, something tells me you might be able to find another shooter in the WiiWare line up. Or another 20. Ubisoft’s press release after the break.

Wii Ware gives us a way to slaughter Mexican Zoo Animals

Published by Ryan under WiiWare

Is everybody looking forward to future Wii Ware titles? I know that I am definitely looking into a game entitled Animales de la Muerte, developed by High Voltage.

You take on the role of characters Marco and Maria Mendoza, Don Eduardo’s weapon-proficient grandchildren, and bring the fight back to the animals — the zombified ones, anyway. While the two will use a variety of powerful guns and items to mutilate the walking dead, they will also carry with them nets in order to capture and save the animals still unaffected by the outbreak

It looks like Smash TV Hit meets Conker’s Bad Fur Day. This title will definitely use up my hard earned Wii Points. I don’t think that my pet chihuahua “Pancho” will approve.

U.S. to get Everybody’s Nintendo Channel around WiiWare launch

Published by Pete under WiiWare, Nintendo DS, Wii

wii-ds-copy.jpg

Finally, the promised DS game demos from the Wii will be a reality! Nintendo of America will be debuting the channel under a slightly different name from the Japanese version, simply ‘Nintendo Channel’, and the service begins next month. Users will be able to browse videos of current and upcoming games, download DS demos (as mentioned before), and even post user reviews of WiiWare games that they have put more than an hour of playtime into. Should be a nice feature for prospective buyers to sort through some of the mess. It wasn’t said as to whether this will be available for download the same day as WiiWare’s launch, but the two channels will be integrated somewhat.

Capcom to hop on WiiWare ship; expect titles soon

Published by Robert under WiiWare

capcom-logo-color.jpg

In a five page interview with Gamasutra, Capcom’s vice president of strategic planning and business development, Christian Svensson, talks about WiiWare in the west and how we should expect titles “very shortly.” All of Capcom’s current projects are classified for now, so no details were released just yet.

I haven’t heard much about WiiWare yet — how much have you thought about it?

CS: I’m going to lump WiiWare in with PSP e-distribution, in that we’re looking for the right content first — a lot of the content we have now isn’t quite right in value or approach or interface for WiiWare.

I fully expect us to be doing some WiiWare titles very shortly in the west. I won’t speak for Japan on that particular issue, but there are interesting things happening at some point there, maybe.

Perhaps E3 will shed some light on Capcom’s WiiWare projects.

Game Boy Color game Toki Tori finds new life on WiiWare

Published by Michael under WiiWare

The original Toki Tori game was released at the end of the Game Boy Color’s lifetime, and was therefore overshadowed by the release of the Game Boy Advance. However, the game was critically acclaimed, and so it should be a good one to look forward to come May 12th. Check after the break for the full press release and a couple of screens.

Telltale’s WiiWare game announced; longest title for a game ever

Published by Robert under WiiWare, Videos

Few days back we reported that Telltale has an announcement of a new game coming to the WiiWare, we’d just have to wait till the Nintendo Media Summit to hear it. And, well, here it is: Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People. The trailer above is pretty funny and has pretty much guaranteed my purchase. The title alone, as vain as it is, was enough to catch my eye.

No details on pricing or how large the file size will be have been released yet, but as we make our way to the Stateside appearance of WiiWare I’m sure those details will surface. Until then, enjoy the trailer for SBCG4AP.

WiiWare title to be announced by Telltale this week

Published by Robert under WiiWare

080406telltalewiiware.jpgTelltale Games, creators of the Sam & Max series, are expected to make an announcement of a new WiiWare game at this years Nintendo media summit, which takes place on April 10th to the 11th. It has already been reported that a new Sam & Max title is coming to the Wii platform, so we know it isn’t that. When CEO Dan Connor was asked for any hints or details on the new title he said he was unable to give out any, as dedicated fans to the Sam & Max series would be able to guess the announcement easily:

Wired: So obviously you can’t tell me what it is, but can you give me a cryptic hint?

Connor: I’m tempted to give you a cryptic hint, but our audience is so diligent in figuring stuff out, and the audience that we’ve licensed are diligent in figuring stuff out, that they would figure it out in a second if I gave you any inkling. So all I can say is that it’s an equally attentive audience, dedicated audience, to the Sam & Max audience.

Feel free to post any guesses in the comments section. For the full interview head over to the link below. Thanks to Jeremy for the tip.

Crystal Chronicles DLC reveals royal clothes cost 1/3 the price of a house

Published by Robert under WiiWare

Crystal Chronicles

As you all know by now, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as King allows users to download content for an additional amount of Wii points. The game itself will cost $15 when the WiiWare feature hits Stateside, and all of the DLC available thus far will run you about $13 worth of Points. The content isn’t anything to brag about, but let’s hope this finally opens Nintendo’s eyes to the online realm and allows developers to utilize this “next-gen” feature. Hit the jump for the details.
